Great design, thanks for sharing. I would like to build one for 1-2 divers. Would one of these pumps suffice for 2 divers to 20 or 30'?
@Nickerian914 жыл бұрын
Looks cool and very compact. We use to compressor dive in the ocean so we simply place the stuff in the boat instead. hard to find good 12v compressors around here so we went for a 220v oil less double piston compressor and inverter coast about 200 dollar. What i would like to see in your build is a water/oil filter. it is an oilless design but compressed air drives moisture out from the air and thrown into your lungs. i actually have 3 in a row in my build and the 2 first once both collect water from the air only the 3rd is empty. This is why high end compressors are extremely expensive and wont be found in ordinary homes. It cools the air to get ride of moist so the air is dry when leaving the tank. And it looks like you use a lead acid battery? i strongly recommend lithium for its light weight and true capacity rating. lead acid waste alot of power when you use high drain (you get about 50% of rated capacity)
@WorldScienceTV4 жыл бұрын
My other system has two air dryers but this one doesn’t seem to have the same problem as my other one I run a lot lower pressure on this one than I do my other one I run about 95 pounds to the diver on my other one I get a lot more moisture out of it. We use full face masks and the moisture will fog the full face mask up. I wouldn’t mind at least one or two on the system. I am planning on using bigger air hose and run the compressors at lower psi to gain battery life. And the lithium-ion batteries I’ve looked at definitely would be a nice upgrade but for $800-$1000 a battery I’m stuck with lead acid for now.
@Nickerian914 жыл бұрын
@@WorldScienceTV yeah thats correct the higher pressure the more moist will come out from the air so if you run the on low pressure you will have less issues. Thats extremely expensive, found mine for about 150 dollar each (50ah each i bought 4 (2 in parallel and 2 in series 24v inverter)) If you have issues finding you can always take a look at aliexpress and search for LIFEPO4 (12v 100ah for about 400 dollar with shipping)
@WorldScienceTV4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the last time I looked was for 100 amp hour lithium ion they were pretty expensive I was looking at Soli for a car battery replacement style or applications
@Nickerian914 жыл бұрын
@@WorldScienceTV The disadvantage lithium have over lead acid is that you can discharge lead acid much more. starting a car pulls about 300amps which you cant create with a simple lithium battery. Thats one of the main reasons they still use lead acid in cars and why its hard to find the big packs of lithium. the discharge rate of lithium vary alot but most bms in 50ah packs will state max 40 and 100 ah max 80. The biggest benefit is weight and the amount of power you can consume when it comes to "high drain" 100 lithium is 100 while 100 lead acid depends on how much current you pull in your case probably 50-60% then ofcourse how many times you can recharge the battery. in the end lithium is cheaper if you count the power you get and how long the battery lasts.
@WorldScienceTV4 жыл бұрын
I agree caring around those heavy duty thousand cranking amp battery‘s is pretty heavy and makes a little eerie if the pontoons got a hole or something happened while you were out in the water. I get about five hours with two divers working hard. it would be interesting to see what the lithium would produce for a timeframe. Lithium is 70% lighter per amp

Hi, I'm building a hooka system for my boat using a single air zenith OB2 compressor but, with a 3-gallon aluminum tank. The problem I'm running into after talking to Gator Gill (he makes/sells full portable hooka systems) is that the compressor produces heat and the temperature would have to be cooled down with an inline expansion valve between the compressor and the tank. I know your system doesn't have a tank...how are you cooling the air since its apparently going to be an issue? Thanks for any thoughts. Capt Dave
@WorldScienceTV4 жыл бұрын
I do have 3 stainless tanks one on each diver air hose each are 3 gallons. the air doesn’t get hot enough to need a high temperature hose from the compressor manifold to the tank . these compressors run cooler than most do to the size of the piston. This compressor is far superior than what gator 🐊 uses and if you want a professional one built for you with all the fail safes. Call (Mark)at (Keene Engineering) they are planning on building my compressor to replace there’s because of this pump being superior compared to the competitors. This compressor comes with a high temp hose that goes from the compressor to the manifold. They are just trying to detour you. they’re in the business to sell you a compressor not tell you that it’s OK to make your own.

I looked up the air compressor you were talking about the air is sucked through the crank case up through the piston and then out of a read valve and then to the storage tank and then would be out to the diver I veered away from these style compressors because the fumes from the electrical motor exhaust into the air that the diver would be breathing. I consider this style of compressor dangerous for divers to breathe on I would prefer you use a oil less compressor that the air comes in from the head and then it goes out from the head and then you have to use a food grade stainless or plastic for your air tank. All compressor heads need to be pulled apart and cleaned of toxic oils and manufacturing chemicals and then greased with food grade grease found in food services.

@@WorldScienceTV im pretty sure all is adjustable however if you get a regulator from a compressor that is meant to operate as example 110-120 psi you cant go below 90 with the set screw. you can grind down the plastic a bit and get it down to 70 (starts at 30 and stops at 70) thats what i have done with 2 of my compressors. i do regret my 220v system with inverter just for the fact you get longer battery time and more steady airflow with a 12v using 2 compressors instead of 1. however going with a 220v system made everything very simple since everything is already done just put a filter and attatch the hose. if we ae talking about the breath regulator thats nonsense you can set it so low that you can breath even without a compressor (if you dont have a hose attached)

Update. i ordered all my stuff for the build, the only thing is that air Zenith only supplies the Black pumps now. so white is off the table which sucks so i bought a heat transfer hose to supply from the tank to the hoses. i am not doing your exact design but i am modifying a bit to be a little more updated, also for my hoses and stuff i am getting the equipment from Brownies. if you were to do a 4 person dive with yours what would you recommend setting your PSI to on both of the pumps.
@WorldScienceTV3 жыл бұрын
Your pressure is based on depth and amount of hose. If you are running more than fifty feet your going to need 100+ psi on 1/4 hose the bigger the supply line the less pressure needed to keep the CFM up to the divers. These compressors don’t run hot air like the conventional Gast PCA-10 compressor which will melt a low temperature air hose hooked to the compressor. There is one major thing the foam filter has to be pulled out of the cartridge your running more CFM than the manufacturer specifications and it will pull and disintegrate the foam into the compressor. There is still a fine mesh screen that will be sufficient for over the water applications. Remember adding filters only makes more work for the compressor and in return make less battery time. So to keep your battery time up it is better to have exactly what is necessary and no more.
