Here's a great story about the universality art- and bonding between people of very different cultures (bear with me, I'm tired tonight). I first heard of Murda from a close black American friend, Jay, who stays in my house in Harlem. Jay has excellent taste in music, so I couldn't wait to hear his friend Uncle Murda's music; they really ARE good friends who talk on the phone weekly. I also employ some Jamaican carpenters- ages 30 and 55- from East New York, Brooklyn, where Murda and they live. (Jamaican culture is one I know VERY well; they generally don't understand or respect black American men, and, as most people know, their music is VERY different.) Last week, the two carpenters came to Harlem to work in my house, and Jay was home. He told them "I have a friend who lives in your neighborhood"-it turns out the Jamaicans are huge fans of Murda!
