I'm Brazilian and I think John surfed better overall, specially in the second heat. But we can't deny that the judges inconsistency still blow my mind. If the first air from Italo in the first heat was in the mid 7 range, the second one should have been way above what it was. It was much higher, it had perfect landing, the rotation was perfect, and the difference was less 0.7 lol Same goes to John John first and second wave, even the commentator said he did pretty much the same thing of the first wave (I watch in the english broadcast) and there was almost 1.2 difference? I'm not here saying that Italo should have won, but it gets really hard to figure out how the judges judge with such a discrepancy in scores for such similar waves where you can se the difference and similarities of the maneuvers.
@boarderz8275Ай бұрын
Italo literally wasted multiple sections on multiple waves racing down the line to perform the same move. JJF might of had similar waves but atleast he surfed those waves and didn't spend most of the time pumping to do the exact same thing. IMO 5 good turns should ALWAYS score higher than 1 good turn and an air.
@msalvsАй бұрын
Italo’s waves have little variation, he’s either pumping or doing that same air reverse. I think JJF’s first wave should have scored higher on variation, flow and style alone. And both Italo’s waves should have scored lower under the same criteria. The judges probably realised that much and made up for it in that final score. It wasn’t pretty but I think they got it right, which is what ultimately matters.

The judges sucked. Super high score for a messy landing😏 JJ deserved it. Got bored of watching the same air by Italo
@Bryan-jd7osАй бұрын
Yup, that 7.33 for Italos shitty, messy "reverse" screwed up the scoring for the whole heat, the best man won today hands down.

Both great surfers but John definitely win this without question. Better than pumping down the line to do the same manuver every wave.

Sinceramente!
@wthomas5697Ай бұрын
8.33 was a little high for that wave in the first heat. It wasn't even as good as his first wave.

With all the respect for Florence, WHERE THE HELL did that 8.33 come out??!?! with perfect timing? as it gets clear, NO WAY wsl judges would allow Italo (or any other brazilian dude) to win the title, specially in the States...SHAME on WSL as usual. - blast -
@matthewbranson9496Ай бұрын
This format has gotta go!
@cesarsuzuki6846Ай бұрын
Que roubo esse 8,33 do JJ … o cara não precisa disso , ele é bom suficiente para ganhar . O Italo fez um aéreo , deitou na onda e levantou ,depois fez mais duas manobras e os cara deram 7 baixo …
@mikegalaxie2352Ай бұрын
Yes he lay down so didn’t finish clean = points deducted

John deserves to win the world title BUT we all have to know that he was WAY overscored on his last wave of the first heat.

Ferreira’s Game is pretty week, except for the airgame, compared to jjf. I considere the WSL should to back to the old system. JJ World champ, point.
@talitamenezes5559Ай бұрын
@@frederikdecoene8860 week?! Are you sure?
@Danny310563Ай бұрын
totally agree 5th best surfer nearly won the world title due to the finals system and the fact it's held at a break that favours the air game. This is why many people have switched off WSL. If Italo had won there would have been even more disillusionment
@TheDudeAbides024Ай бұрын
JJF can punt them with the best of them....But he is smart enough to realize that wont get you the huge score anymore.
@elexpresoestelar4322Ай бұрын
@@TheDudeAbides024 Nah, he just can't throw those massive airs in comps anymore. Otherwise he would. You still get big scores for airs.
