I've recently been doing the same with my M1 that I got from the CMP at around the same time as you! August 1942 receiver, I've been getting everything correct to 1942 standards. Just got my lockbar this week, and am getting a correct cartouched stock for it soon. You're so lucky someone sent these parts to you, they're getting hard to find!

My M1 from the CMP was super original 1940s besides the front wood being replaced at some point, but I think the replaced parts are what make it cool. I'd rather have an original M1 with random parts that the military/soldiers put on it throughout the years than putting "original" parts on it myself. It's cool to look at a stamped receiver on a 1942 and think "wow this was probably replaced in the 50s when it was used in Korea. But that's just me.

I love USGI firearms. I have two M1 Garands, an M1903A3 and two recent acquisitions, a CMP Remington Rand M1911A1 and an M1 Carbine, both made in 1943.

the hole in the back of the trigger guard was also for a winter trigger. basically a spring loaded piece of metal rod sort of like a crossbow trigger that levered on that hole, with a 'finger' on the other end that engaged with the M1 trigger.

The Bomb might have won the War in the Pacific, but probably more than any other single weapon this is what won the war in Europe. At least on the Eastern Front. Your stamped TG is a somewhat rare version as it's stamped with a milled hook. The first version of the stamped TG. Not super rare but far less common. I also have a 12/42 SA that is still in its original configuration down to the type 1 lock bar sights. Super rare. It is one of my favorite pieces. I love early WW2 pieces.

Great video. FYI, regarding the hole at the rear of the milled trigger guard. Its original purpose is as an attachment point for a "winter trigger".

Not true, those did not come about until Korea, long after they stopped production of milled trigger guards
@jason200912 Жыл бұрын
just so you know both stamped and milled guards can both accept the same winter trigger device. I don't recommend installing it as it scratches the fuck outta your trigger and guard.

I just came into possession of my first M1 Garand and I learned a bit about them from this video. I'm pretty sure the guts of mine were manufactured late war (1944) due to its serial number, but I'm not 100% sure. It has: -Plus Style Gas Cylinder Lock Screw -Milled Trigger Guard -Lock Bar Sight . How ever, the previous owner did replace the furniture as the stock seems to be newer wood with a rubber pad attached to it and the upper hand guard is a plastic recreation which I plan to replace with a replica wood furniture. But that all aside, I must ask, have you heard of "The Tanker Special"? My Garand is shorter than your average one, about 38.5 inches from the butt of the stock to muzzle and about an inch of that is the rubber pad. I understand the normal M1 Garands are around 43.5 inches. This is making it difficult to find replacement furniture as it seems i would need to chop up a stock and handguard to make it fit properly. And before anyone asks, no it's not an M1 Carbine or M1E5. Also, where would i find groups like yours?
@davidcox2264 Жыл бұрын
Just a suggestion. Make sure you check the torque on the gas plug every time you clean. Had a friend who's M1 wouldn't fire in semi auto. Turned out the gas plug had shot off him rifle.
@johngetty3839 Жыл бұрын

@bobsmythe910610 ай бұрын
The reason the gas plug was so tight is, as per the cmp armorers, no matter how tight it is it will come loose and begins to affect your point of impact and operation of the rifle. There is also little need for disassembly of the gas cylinder. It is made from a stainless steel and has a different finish than the rifle.

Hello, your mill trigger guard has worn lugs, if you compare it to the stamp trigger guard lugs is perfect round. I noitced at the end of the video it was too easy to snap on. You should have some resistance so that receiver is tight against the wood. Congrats on your M1 Garand.......

Regarding reproduction leather slings. Even after break in, the hooks tend to get pushed out of the holes by overlapping layers. I've thought about bending the hooks slightly but I worry that the metal might weaken and break. Any tips would be appreciated. Love your videos. Keep them coming.

Put lock-bar sights on your rifle? You will be sorry. They shoot loose and fall apart and you will spend a lot of time looking for the lost parts in the field. Why do you think they stopped using them? First thing I did when I got my Winchester was change for type 3. Why replace the gas tap? It is correct and you will need it when you get around to the M-7 launcher.

hey remember to zero your rifle for real ammo as the garand has a wide range of rear iron sight movement and it will be very historically inaccurate if say the rear sight is bottomed out when usually it needs to be 10 clicks, or just over the two rear wing protectors to be zeroed for 100 yards.
