What about temperature? Do you have comments on a desired temperature and/or an acceptable daily temperature swing? Or the ideal length between heating cycles? I.E. do you size heaters so they take 6-12 hrs to go from the low to high temp so you only see 2-4 swings per day? Or is your swing small enough that you don’t care how many times it happens? Any advice is appreciated.

You should not have any fluctions in temperature at all, especially for acros. Stability is key! We maintain our tanks between 77 and 78 degrees. Heaters turn on as needed, not much to do there.

I thought the advice here about tracking variance was key. However, what about flow and lighting? I struggle with how quickly to make changes regarding flow and lighting. For example, I can see a coral is having issues that I suspect are related to flow. So, I make a change to that flow. But how long should I wait to judge rather my change was a good one or not if the coral is still not responding positively. In other words, how quickly should I expect to see a result from my change. I know this varies with the type of coral but some tips in this area would be helpful.

My SPS tank is about 10 months old with some starter frags doing decently. I have coraline algae growing like crazy covering the back wall and my large arch dry rock. Is this a sign that I’m ready for higher end acros? I am using Radion G6 Blues, MP40 for flow.
@austinremington890511 ай бұрын
Any thoughts about tank maturity? Dry rock vs. Live rock from established tank. Whats the estimations on how long you should wait to start dabbling in it? What to do if your Beginger SPS browns out and bleaches? How long do you give a SPS to sit on the bottom and acclimate before you should react if it is not doing well?
@WorldWideCorals11 ай бұрын
Live rock is undoubtedly the best rock you can use. No way around it. I would suggest not adding any corals to tanks that are less than 3 months old, sps after 10-12 months preferably. We have done it way faster, but they do better with some patience. If a sps browns out or bleaches, find out why, and fix it. You have to find the cause first. You do not necessarily need to put sps on the bottom if they are going into somewhat similar par intensity. If you see an issue, don't wait, react immediately.
