Great overview! I'm currently running a Forkaster 29x2.35 front and a Rekon 29x2.25 rear on my Ti HT SS. Before that I ran an Ardent Race front and Ikon Rear both in 29x2.35. I chose both sets based on your previous tire review videos.

Maxxis Ardent front & rear. Over 3,000 miles on them. Maxxis or nothing. Before I got them I was thinking about other brands cause they never crossed my mind. When I decided Maxxis I was set on the Ikon but the bike shop guy asked a few questions & led me to the Ardent. Only bought 1 so I could try it out. Put it on the front & was so impressed I bought it again for the rear. I want to try a different set of Maxxis but the Ardent never let me down, never a flat, phenomenal traction year round, I might just keep getting the Ardent. I've ridden all conditions. Road, wet/rain, dirt, sand, gravel, mud, snow/ice, you name it.

Got it in the purple addix super soft compound n for being a mud tyre it tackles the hardpack pretty well and is great with mud n wet roots.

Good video...,you are describing the High Roller II as an inbetween option of XC vs Enduro/DH and faster rolling capabilities compared to the DHR and DHF... If you go to the Maxxis website, the HRII has more rolling resistance than the DHR and DHF...Thus, I'm a little bit confused about where the HRII sits?
@steveflor99424 жыл бұрын
What a great video!. Especially like the bit about knob spacing and height. The only thing (my $.02) I can add... much of the grip comes from the sharp, square edge of the knobs. If the edges of the knobs are worn smooth, available grip goes down. I found out the hard way: road miles on mountain bike tire... not a good thing. Cheers

There is one huuuuuge aspect of tires that is seldom mentioned: The damping of the casing. Maxxis tires are generally much more damped than for example Schwalbe, which also makes them roll a bit slower. Even if you don't have any problems with tire squirm, punctures or grip, a Forekaster will feel totally different compared to a DHF in the same size, because it's much lighter and less damped. Every root and rock will ping you slightly off the ground with the lighter tire, when the heavier one rebounds much slower and sticks to the ground. This also leads to light tires being more uncomfortable, transmitting vibrations to the rider. I don't think Maxxis has the best rubber tech, but their tires _feel_ phenomenal compared to many other brands. Something that is hard or impossible to measure.
@sepultubob11 ай бұрын
Interesting comment ! I was thinking about going from a dissector 2.6 to a rekon 2.6 at the the rear of my hardtail (for a lighter more efficient setup). Because of the 2.6 volume, I'm scared that the lighter Rekon could feel more like a rebounding baloon ? Am I wrong ?
@martinhertsius928211 ай бұрын
@@sepultubob Rekon is actually surprisingly well damped for what it is. It's my go-to rear tire, combined with DHR/DHF/Butcher/Similar up front. Also, the rebound properties doesn't make as much of a difference in the rear as in the front.

I run Maxxis Minion DHF on the front and back of my Diamondback Catch 1... Why go through all the trouble to get the correct frame size and find correct seat height. Then saddle forward or back to get everything balanced then they throw on different spec tires that throws off the traction balance. How’s this work on $350,000 Lamborghini? Great grip tires on the front and slicks on the back!?? Now who wants to race my corvette with matching tires? I’ve ridden a few friends bikes set up like this and it feels like the rear end is going to fall out from under me in corners. Funny thing is they crash all the time and I don’t and they still haven’t figured it out why. I see the rear tires flip out from under them however they just won’t listen.
