Third option to drive via N1 and R60 passing Worcester, Robertson and Ashton back on to the N2 at Swellendam. Beautiful wine estates along the way.

Many thanks for this. The best Holiday i have ever had was the Garden Route back in the early 1990's. I adored Knysna . I would love to retire here .

Oudtshoorn is not part of the Garden Route though. It is part of the Klein Karoo that borders the Garden Route by mountain ranges.
@worldwildhearts9 ай бұрын
Actually if you take a look from the Garden Route District Municipality point of view, it is included. It's commonly accepted as being part of both the Garden Route & Klein Karoo region

Wow! I am South African from the City of Johannesburg, I thought let me commend you for covering Garden Route very well... It is amazingly beautiful... and you are correct there is more to explore there. We had a 2 weeks vacation earlier this year and it was certainly not even enough to fully cover the fun activities, I cannot wait to relocate to Plettenberg Bay later this year, it is like an island, our new home for sure, the landscapes was breathtaking 😍...You brought back a lot of memories, I have enjoyed watching your video, well done 👍

This is great and very helpful, thank you (your videos are the best about SA I have found so far). What time of the year were you there? I am planning to visit in June, so I guess the scenery would be a lot different.

Thank you! We were there in January so it was technically summer there! 😉 it will be different indeed!

I love the drone shots. I have my part-107 in the United States, but obviously, that's not applicable. But, what must I do to fly a DJI Mini there?

Loved the video, very helpful! How long did it take for the whole trip? Did you spend the night in each of these stops?
@worldwildhearts6 ай бұрын
We visited twice so we combined the footage! The first time was about 5 days and this time about 8 days! We spent the night at most places but not all. We slept in Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay, Wilderness, Knysna, Plett and Storms River. Some places like Plett and Knysna are great to base for a few nights and explore from there

Which month of the year did you do this? I am still wondering if mid August can be a good idea or not
@worldwildhearts6 ай бұрын
We were here in January which is summer! August is possible but bring a warm jacket because it will be cool 😊 it’s also a great time for whale watching!

I have a plan of 14 days for both Cape town & garden route. What's your advice how many days should I split it and where to stay??
@worldwildhearts7 ай бұрын
We would do it this way: 5 days for Cape Town and then the rest for Garden Route! You can drive the coastal highway to the Garden Route and stay in Hermanus for a day or two. Then head from there to Wilderness (1 night), Plett (2-3 nights), and Storms Rivier (1 night). Then head back through Oudtshoorn (1 night) and the Wine Region (2 nights) to Cape Town.

Just curious but you never mentioned safety once. Are all the walking routes safe to undertake without tagging on to a group. Knysna also gets some bad press for water quality etc. Appreciate the video but there is nothing worse than being sold an experience, getting there to discover there are issues not mentioned (especially as you may have children with you)
@worldwildhearts9 ай бұрын
we found the area to be very safe. No issues for us. Parkings are always guarded (you need to tip the guard) and trails are well-trotten and safe. We did say to just be careful with leaving stuff behind in the car. Put everything in the trunk, not visible anywhere. The ocean can be rough in most places (actually everywhere in South Africa the ocean seems to have strong currents), so be careful when swimming. We didn’t swim in the ocean, instead there are some small lagoons you can swim in which is safer

i dont have international driving liscence , do police ask for that during check points/ pull over ?
@worldwildhearts5 ай бұрын
We didn't need an international one. Just bring your driving license from home, that should be okay if it has English on it!

@razeenmeyer97288 ай бұрын
If you are Indian, then put Durban on your list as well. There is a massive Indian community in the city and has their own South African Indian culture. 😊
@worldwildhearts7 ай бұрын
All places are accessible by car so you could see all of them. You might want to skip the hikes, Tsitsikamma, and the bungee jumping. Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay are all feasible.
