Unless you're really dedicated to avoiding plywood, butt blocks (and other backing blocks) are better made in epoxy coated plywood. Keep on truckin!

Or better still removed all together with fresh wood scarfed in over the old butt joints. The frames on tahitis are so close that any backer blocks block up the frame bays and prevent debris, detritus, and moisture from falling down to the bilge.
