Western Australia Now and Then

It took us 4 trips to Mandurah to make this one very short video but we finally got there.
This is a look at how to catch marine worms for bait with a bait pump and a sieve.

We know worming is popular in the eastern states but have you ever tried worming in W.A.? If so did you have any success and can you pass on any tips to others?

Used to go worming in the Swan River years ago, and just used a shovel to dig them up. Good Black Bream bait to

Same here. Used to collect bloodworms from Maylands foreshore with a shovel for black bream. I think they banned it?

Like the fellow below I too noticed the ripples behind you, should of had the rod ready to go. Never done the worming meself or even tried them on the hook. Good work.

Best bait ever for whiting :) It was probably only mullet behind me as there are heaps around in the estuary. Caught them in nets years ago but the ones down there are very oily. The best ones we catch are up north, nice white firm fish but again they need to be caught in nets.

Larger, especially after cryogenics like procedures.

Should have got me to help with filming, I live in Mandurah. I have an Alvey baitpump somewhere, used to use it over east. Dough is good for whiting.

We find worms are almost perfect for whiting. We do use prawns and dough as well but the most reliable seems to be worms. We catch poddy worms under the seaweed up north in places like Bush Bay but worms are much harder to find down here. You aren't that far from us as we live in Rockingham.

@@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen I know you're in Rockingham. Have you tried garden worms? I'd stick with dough though. It's also good for herring, skippy, bream, and I've even caught snapper on it. I have caught worms in the southwest, but not those.

@@oneeyedphotographer Garden worms work as well, when we try freshwater fishing we can often get them from river banks near where we fish. I have to admit I prefer to use worms once they have been frozen as I don't really like impaling the poor things on a hook when they are alive.
