It's interesting to note that this Malayan Night Heron can find worms in the suburban housing estate. It's amazing that it's not bothered by the noise of the heavy traffic. Nice capture, and thanks for sharing 👍 😊

KIDOWNER, hi, greetings from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. Although you had previously shown this Malayan Night Heron, not afraid of the buzzling noise of the traffic, it is oblivious to its surroundings in search for food. The Malayan Night Heron is about 48 cm (19 inches) in length. Its wingspan is about 86 cm (34 cm). It is stocky, with short beak which nests 🪹 in lowland forests of tall trees 🌳 🌲 and bamboo, usually near or over water. It nests in trees and also in reed beds.

Thanks for this additional info. I had previously only seen it on the ground, but I have videoed this one roosting on the tree top. Thanks for watching!😊

The trick is not to go too near to the bird, so one needs a long lens. Also try not to move unnecessarily. I usually wait for the bird to move, rather than make the move if my angle is blocked. But if one has no choice, then move one step at a time, and slowly. Such practices are good, not only because one can get nice shots, but it is also good for the bird, as it will not be subjected to unnecessary stress. I love birds, & it is my priority that their welfare is not compromised. Good luck & happy birding! 🙏😊

WOW ! KIDOWNER, this Malayan Night Heron feeds on earthworms 🪱 as it uses its senses to feel with its feet and listening to movement beneath the grass ! That is incredibly ! Unlike other Heron species that hunts near water edge looking for fish 🐟, this night heron stalks on the land near populated areas near the streets.
