Very helpful video. I like the fact all your videos are straight to the point, no background music (I'll forgive the cockerels) and clear explanation. Currently I'm recovering from Achilles tendonitis, and things much improving with gradual increase in loading and exercise. Many thanks.

This is such an informative useful video. I've had a couple of friends who ruptured their archilles and of course I became worried that I would do the same. My friends are not the most active people but I'm pretty active for my age, at 53 I still surf, train jiu-jitsu and play drums which uses a lot of foot movement. I was worried that I had to cut back or stop my activities but now I know I don't need to. Thank you 😊

Very useful videos. I've got Achilles tendonitis in both ankles and have also been suffering seasonal asthma the last month. I take an inhaler called seritide which apparently is a corticosteroid, which may explain why my achilles tendonitis recovery has been so poor. I'm going to stop using the seritide for a while and see if that helps recovery.

Thank you very much for the channel, this is very informative. Please what do you think of other types of exercises apart from calf raises, for example balance exercises and wobble boards for Achilles tendinopathy and weakened ankles?
@TreatMyAchilles
@TreatMyAchilles 2 жыл бұрын
If your ankles feel weak, then balance exercises may be useful but they don't necessarily help the Achilles specifically. Just be careful of a wobble board if your Achilles is very sensitive - it can sometimes make it stretch suddenly if it tilts back which can make it hurt more. But if your Achilles is not too sensitive then it may be OK.

Not that I'm aware of. It is more about how long you allow it to go on for before you start looking after it and also about building it's strength to the level that you need.

Excellent video! Long story short, I first aggravated my Achilles 3-4 years and it never healed completely even though I’ve completed several 10k-15k runs since. I aggravated it again about 8 months ago and now have a small bump above my heel, which only bothers me if I pinch it. I’m concerned that the next time I aggravate it may result in a tear. How likely is that? Thanks very much!

First, I hope you have resolved your Achilles issues and are doing better. However, if you still haven’t seen a doctor I would strongly encourage you to do so. Like you, I aggravated my Achilles back during quarantine when I suddenly increased my jogging. If I had taken a few weeks to let it heal maybe things would’ve been different. I didn’t do that. While I cut back some, I never gave it the time it really needed. I finally saw a doctor about back in January. He put me in a boot, but after 2 months there just wasn’t the improvement I was hoping for. Turns out I had a substantial tear and Haglund’s deformity. I ended up having surgery and I get my cast off in a week and then 6 more weeks of therapy before I can go back to work. It’s been an ordeal. Long story short…I will never let an injury go that long before getting it checked out. Best wishes to you. 😊🙏

Anybody have any suggestions? It hurts around the tendon and is occasionally sore to the touch. It hurts after around half a day of working and the pain is in the lower heel and the middle of the tendon, but occasionally I feel it up my leg. walking is stiff and often painful. I also have hEDS (so my tendons are all pretty crappy and my ankle could flip just walking and tear something) and I'm not a small person (currently losing weight). I've also just come out of a depression so this is sudden and new activity after constant hypersomnia. I have to be on my feet 3-7 hours a day. I sit down when I can but its often not an option. This is happening with compression, athletic tape, and insoles. I don't know what to do until I can get to the doctor and I'm only 16.

I've suffered with plantar fasciitis, toght calves and achilles tendinitis for years now. It's effected my work, my exercise, my mood - everything. I'm at the end of my rope, my tendinitis has flared up again and I'm almost unable to walk. I've tried stretches, insoles, booties, compression socks - nothing helps. I'm worried it'll give up the ghost one of these days and tear. I suppose I'm not that likely to have that happen as I can't walk nevermind run 😅

Will calf raises help strengthen achilles tendon? Scared it might cause a rupture
@TreatMyAchilles
@TreatMyAchilles Жыл бұрын
Yes, it will help you strengthen it. I know from your other comment that you have calcific tendinopathy - usually when you have that the tendon can be really painful and easy to irritate so make sure you get the right exercise advice otherwise, if you do heel raises that are too heavy or too many or stretch the tendon, it can make the pain feel worse. If you wanted more specific rehab advice and help with getting back to your normal activities, this is something that our team of physios can help you with via video call. Hi there, I am 39 and still enjoy playing basketball. Recently when playing I experienced Achilles pain so stopped instantly I had also been waking up and finding my left Achilles stiff and uncomfortable to walk (this relieves within a few minutes). If I push it it feels tender and bruised. I have a tournament in 10 days and am daily stretching, doing calf dips and using a massage gun and icing it. I hope it will allow me to play but part of me is worried it may tear. Am I right to be concerned? Thanks
@TreatMyAchilles
@TreatMyAchilles Жыл бұрын
It does sound like you have Achilles tendinopathy. But I'm wondering if you're perhaps making it more sensitive by doing too much rehab for it at the moment. When the Achilles first flares up, it really requires a bit of rest rather than strong stretches and exercises over step - it is only much later that exercise is added. So depending on when yours was injured you may benefit from doing less rather than more but it just depends. I've explained this concept in this video about jump rope (the advice applies to all sport) at minute 00:02:09 kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3PQe3qhjqZod5o With regards to rupture risk - I can't really tell if you should be worried - basketball is high load for the Achilles but it would depend on how long this has gone on for and if you've had any issues in the past etc. If you wanted help figuring this out, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. You can read more about how the online consultations work here: www.treatmyachilles.com/
