To admit it publicly and share your journey is truly heroic even if you don’t see that way. You got this, one day, at a time with a supportive family, a homestead journey and your AA extended family. May peace be with you Sam as your homestead and life journey unfolds. 💪

Geez Louise, how bad was that surgery job to put Toby thru this horrible "recovery"? And speaking of recovery, those of us who are in recovery know that we are all just one drink away from a drunk. As you stated, along with the fellowship, keeping yourself physically and mentally healthy is so important in keeping that one drink at a safe distance away. At 40 years sober I can still recall the despair, degradation and destruction my drinking caused. The fact that Rebecka is still with you thru all of that is a testament to the love and strength of your marriage. Love you guys!

When my husband kept bees, he really liked his Langstroth boxes. He also had Warre boxes that he built himself, but did not like them as well. The bees seemed to prefer the Langstroth. The amount of physical, mental, and emotional effort needed to do this huge task -- I'm so glad you both are being careful with yourselves and making sure you're not overdoing it. Good for you, Sam. Don't you think that caring for your mental health also means taking a break -- all of you -- when it's needed? I hope you do that. I hope you get a fabulous vacation, after the grant time frame is done! The time pressure has got to be a challenge. And remember -- even repetitive tasks with stone and mortar, etc., when you put it with moving clouds and nice music, makes a great video! Never hesitate to post any week, because you think it might "bore" us. It won't!

Aww thank you for the thoughtful message. We took a day away today actually to the lake. We did nothing on the house or land. Just spent a great day fishing swimming & kayaking. As always great progress being made on the stonework plus lot's of tidying as you go.Take care and mind yourselves with the stone's. God bless you all xxxx

Thank you. I hope my opening up helps someone else out there. Toby is lucky although he may not realise that right now. 🫣 I try to keep things tidy but it's a bit difficult at the moment. Stone and debris everywhere. 😫

YAY. Been waiting for a Toby update. You guys are fantastic!! Well done 👍 for sharing some of your personal story. Everyone has one, very few share theirs which leads to worse problems. ❤

Thank you so much! Yes, it's important to share as so often it helps someone else to hear they're not alone.

Thanks, Sean. We have heard that drugs are a big problem here, but to be fair, it's a big problem everywhere these days along with alcohol. The two often go hand in hand.

Your honesty Sam is most appreciated and a lot of respect to you. Acknowledging your weakness, the need to attend meetings and the help of others is a big step. I wish you the very best on this epic journey of the build, your health and mental health. Well done to rebuilding your life and homestead. Glad Toby is on the mend now. Prayers for you and your family. Have a lovely week.

If you've been to America then you know that the working class has all undergone mental challenges. It's all over the world like you saw on your travels and know that you have millions of fellowship out here. Keep your head up and keep your family and friends close. I struggle every day. GOD bless you and yours and keep you safe.❤❤❤❤👍🙏

Wishing you everything your heart desires Sam.❤ I presume you're getting Native Irish Black Bees Rebecca. 🎉. Hugs to Toby (I'm sorry to see your reminder about content....probably idle people with nothing better to do with their time)
@theirishhomestead4 ай бұрын
Thanks Patricia. Yes sadly some people are a bit much for us and clearly need a reminder about kindness. Yes native Irush bees only. I signed a contract on that at my class. Toby thankfully seems much improved after his antibiotics. ♥️

Thankyou Sam for being so honest. Plus calling your past addiction an illness. I lost my beautiful daughter at 20yrs she suffered from alcohol addiction and couldn't bare life anymore. She was such a happy child but she struggled when she hit her teens. As her mum I tried so hard to help her but my sweet girl left us. Your honest and heartfelt words truly touched my soul. You are a remarkable man who chose to take control not just for yourself but also for your beautiful, loving family. I wish only the best for you and your wonderful wife Bec and children.❤❤

Sorry for your loss, alcohol addiction is a terrible thing, they don't seem to highlight the dangers to young people. I know some members of recovery have been able to do a talk in local schools to be able to listen and answer questions from pupils hopefully it help abit. I'm grateful each day to be alive. I share my story with others, for them to see it is possible to live a life free of the crazy mind tennis one day at a time, Alanon is a great sister fellowship to AA its so supportive. I only realise now the pain I caused through my drinking to the loved ones around me
