I was having difficulty finding a guitar strumming pattern until I found this video. I was raised on the organ bench by an organist grandmother who simply played the traditional version. It was completely stuck in my head! lol

It's not really an open tuning but it is an alternate tuning. Open turnings you can strum with your left fingers of the strings and still get a chord. When the strings of a tuning form a simple chord, the tuning is called open

Thanks Paul for this tutorial and your legacy of music! I love the Hymns album. I noticed though that it seems like the recording is a step lower than this tutorial (it seems to work great with the capo off). Is that accurate or is it just me?

It is definitely one whole step lower (D) on the Worship Circle video. Cannot tell how Todd Fields has his acoustic guitar capoed (looks like fourth fret), but Paul’s guitar is capoed 2nd fret. I cannot see what he is playing on that video but the main acoustic guitar in the mix is playing what Paul is playing here in this video but it sounds like it is down in D rather than E. My guess is that Paul-since he is capoed in 2nd fret in the Worship Circle video-tuned his acoustic down a whole step for the video to get the sound he wanted, or to keep the fingerings the same, but in the key of D. Interesting.
