I've watched a bunch of your videos now and I'm curious what your thoughts are on the TC reverbs/delays versus the hx stomp or strymon verbs/delays. I see you're an x5 user. Can you get a nice ambient big wash verb from the x5 or do you use the hx stomp for that kind of thing? Thanks!
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar27 күн бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for watching! Yes I love my PX5, it does have the potential for big ambient washes depending on the TonePrints you download. I stack a .1/8th delay, a 1/8+1/4 delay in stereo, and a reverb with the “Room With A View” TonePrint that is a MASSIVE modulated reverb.

1. Price 2. Price 3. Price. My 3 reasons right here
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar2 ай бұрын
Actually, accounting for inflation, the price of the MX is comparable to the original BigSky back in 2013.
@michaelrobnett45402 ай бұрын
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar money stretched farther back in 2013 though.
@netzarim12772 ай бұрын
Not much RND went to this: same format same color same algorithms with an expansion. They should had lowered the price of the reg big sky by $100 and lowered the price of this new one $100 as well.

How do you compare it to the plethora?

Cheers. Actually I did a follow-up video and have since got my own BS MX! All it took was getting used to the controls and the workflow.

I think (in the worship music scene) we've jumped the shark in regards to reverb pedals. People are using $600-800 reverb pedals (Chase Bliss, Meris, Strymon) for something that isn't going to be recorded on an album, and 99.9% of people in the congregation couldn't care less (or tell the difference from a $150 Boss RV-6). It is dangerously close to becoming idolization of expensive gear. Having an expensive reverb pedal does not make God move, or move people, any more or less. And if you're not playing guitar for people to worship and for God to move, why are you doing it? I know I'm gonna get hate for that from the gear fetishists, but I said what I said.
@ShreddingFinn2 ай бұрын
In the mix I doubt almost anyone could tell between a basic pedal and the mody advanced reverb there is
@JeffHendricks2 ай бұрын
@@ShreddingFinn That's exactly my point. Not that we can't use these things- but that people think you *need* them.
@aleksandergrzybowski88992 ай бұрын
I kinda agree, but that's like saying that everyone should be playing cheap Squiers because it's possible to get sound out of it, and every church which buys anything above Behringer X32 is wasting congregation money. There is a place for expensive gear in church, provided that the church understands what it is for and how can we use it to the max. Which, true, in case of Big Sky, is very likely not worth the outrageous price.
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the perspective! Much appreciated. The gear idolatry part is a very real danger for us (I myself falling prey to it every now and then!). Strymon has a sound-so do Meris, Chase Bliss, and even TC Electronic (where I gravitate towards). As value is in the eye of the beholder, we need to clear as to why that Strymon pedal is THE reverb to get over the others, not just because the “big names” use it.
@二加二2 ай бұрын
Yeah, the idolization of expensive gear is the part we need to attentive, but there is no wrong for using expensive gear, chase for good tone and good gear. I can use a guitar, straight away connect 25watt amp, playing and worship with no problem. But I love to study, research and prepare a creative, good sounding and good playing way to give God all of my best. I believe God deserve all the effort that we put on.

I would say you Title is not true. I bought one and so did another one of our church guitarist. Catch the Mx on a deal or used and it’s a 200-250$ upgrade on the old one. Well worth it. What do you get 1. Future proofing- the big sky classic is 10 years old and won’t receive updates at some point 2. You get all the classic reverbs included with all the new algorithms including the cloudburst pedal 3. The routing options give a whole new creative pallet to play with 4. You get a reverb IR machine as well, the poyliverb only does irs and people are paying 400 for that
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar2 ай бұрын
My title was in reference to me as a worship guitarist not buying one, haha. Thanks for your perspective! I did say at the end that the sounds are fantastic and it is an upgrade over the old BigSky. I agree with your points.

So I traded a couple of old pedals in at a local shop to get the MX. I never owned the original BigSky but did own the BlueSky, Cloudburst, and Mercury7. It is really expensive and I'm not sure I would have just went out and bought it but I have to say I really love the interface and all the options. I have come up with a bunch of dual reverb sounds I really like. If you aren't going to stack reverbs, I don't think it is worth it. I also feel like you have to have a midi controller to take full advantage of this pedal. I have made a bunch of presets and I just pull them up with my midi controller based on the part I'm playing.
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar2 ай бұрын
Whoa I wish our local stores did that too, I’d be able to get rid of my old pedals faster (the gear culture isn’t as strong in Singapore). Stacking reverbs is an art form that I think we worship musicians are pioneering! Would love to hear some samples of yours, bro!
@jasontieu37372 ай бұрын
I bought the pedal a month ago. For someone that loves loves reverb; Not gonna lie, it’s overkill for me. I just don’t have the time to play around with all the settings. The tones though are absolutely amazing.
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar2 ай бұрын
Indeed, the tones are beautiful. Every other reverb pedal pales in comparison to the BigSky and the MX!

i only run mono at church, i honestly don't understand why stereo is hyped the way it is. in a studio recording' i understand the "why". But hey' at the end of the day, its al about preference, as long as we worship in our hearts
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar2 ай бұрын
True stereo is an amazing auditory-physical experience especially when you hear it over a stereo PA, where your delays and reverb “dance” across the front of house. But to be honest the congregation isn’t aware or discerning enough to hear a difference.

Who made the rule that Christian music MUST have ambient effects and it must also come from the guitar?

It's like a cross between shoegaze music from the 90s and new age ambient.

@@joeltunnah I feel like its emotional manipulation, like, it could be God moving or could just be a B minor with some effects "stirring" you.

@guitarandotherthings6090 well yeah, same reason churches have pipe organs and choral groups.
@AllAboutWorshipGuitar2 ай бұрын
Instead of manipulation, perhaps we should frame it along the lines of “bringing text to life”; lyrics on a screen are just words. The music, the accompanying effects, the singing, those add beauty, colour and texture.
@guitarandotherthings60902 ай бұрын
@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar I say manipulation because Elevation and Bethel are cults and they use ambient all the time. All kinds of red flag videos in full context of Furtick and some Bethel pastors saying blasphemous things.

All the worship guitar players have the same tones, I prefer for a more stripped down sound ala Tom petty with a little delay
