Funny thing is, Alfred did have a niece in the later half of the silver age. Her name was Daphne and she was blonde in the comics much like this version of Barbara. I think they may have been going for a combination of both characters, but completely wasted it.

The problem with Joel is that he tried to bring the tone from batman forever. More sexy, vibrant jazzy. This however just made batman and Robin even goofier because the movie was already horrendous. If the tone was a bit darker, then maybe just maybe it would be alittle better of a film. But yes, I do not entirely blame Joel.

Comparing ‘Batman & Robin’ to 60’s Batman is honestly an insult towards Adam West’s entire legacy, because the 60’s series actually had genuine charm and wit put into it, unlike the tonal flip-flopping corporatised mess that was B&R.

I need four words to describe how BAD this movie is and how much it destroyed the Batman Movie Franchise for nearly a decade: *A Bat Credit Card*
@jerobriggs68615 жыл бұрын
This movie was cheesy as hell, but the worst part for me was the Bat Credit Card and Robin. I love the character of Robin, unlike a lot of people, but in this movie he was beyond horrible - bratty and dumb. I feel bad for Chris O'Donnell. My favorite part, and one of the few highlights of this train wreck, was Alfred and Bruce's story and character moments.
@soythenesmaster4 жыл бұрын
I think Bat Credit is not a major problem Swannzenneger is super annoying in this movie, that was not the legendary Mr. Olympia. Bane is worst than a bad joke, awful. BatGirl not hot as for example SuperGirl is super hot (Melissa). In my opinion they are things way way worse than that credit card.

For me, Batman and Robin was a hard movie to watch when I was a kid back in '97, but I realize there are basic words. Five things I do like I did like the Barbara Wilson character. I love the fact that she is very capable of finding her own battles and basically is in the ending scene of Batman. Robin, there was also the music that really catching my interest. The costume department was very well interesting and also again there was kind of very obviously knew that this was the end of the franchise of this kind of Batman mythology Trinity films.

Good rant it's bottom of the barrel for me but to be fair it gets to much hate as does Schumacher by fans and he was just doing what the Studio wanted and is a great filmmaker Lost Boys, Original Flatliners, Cousins, 8mm, St. Elmo's Fire, A Time to Kill, and Falling Down alone gives that man a lifetime pass. Also IMO it wasn't even the worst DC movie of 1997 that was Steel. Ranking live action Batman films I go 1: Batman Begins. 2: The Dark Knight (I have some minor issues with Bruce in the film). 3: Batman (1989). 4: Batman Returns. 5: Batman (1966, What can I say West was my 1st Cape Crusader). 6: Dark Knight Rises. 7: BvS (Ultimate Cut). 8: Justice League. 9: Batman Forever. 10: Batman and Robin. Oh note my favorite theatrically released film was Batman Mask of the Phantasm.

Actually the studio slightly interfering in Batman 89 tempered Burton’s whackiness. Because just cause someone is an artist doesn’t mean they know what’s right with a property. See it’s sequel Batman Returns. Chalk full of campiness and weirdness which is the exact reason it forced the studios hand to take it down the 60 series remix tone and then eventually into the giant toy commercial this movie was. Artists don’t always know what’s best. Especially when they are an artsy fartsy deliberate obtuse weirdo obsessed with say goth or outsider themes like Burton.

This movie was rushed. Should've released it in '98. Batgirl was very pointless and annoying. Alfred should've died or been killed off. Robin should've gone rogue and become Nightwing. And I would've preferred they brought back Jim Carrey as The Riddler rather than Mr. Freeze. And Arnie really should've played Bane if they really wanted that character in the movie.

It was before I was old enough to realize how bad it was because I grew up in the 90’s. I mostly wanted to see it because I am a big Batman fan. I remember after seeing it I was very disappointed with it because all my exposure to Batman at the time was Batman TAS, Mask if The Phantasm, The Tim Burton movies, Batman Forever and several miscellaneous Batman comics. I know they ruined Bane’s character, but I thought his costume looked cool because it looked pretty similar to his comic book design.

The hate for Batman and Robin is way overblown. It's basically the Adam West version with a bigger budget. If you can rewatch the 60s Batman and enjoy it for what it was, you can have fun with this too... Not to mention had it not turned out the way it did, we would have never gotten Batman Begins. So kudos to Schumacher.
@zaranyzerak5 жыл бұрын
No, it's not overblown. And here's why: Yes, it is meant to be cheesy "fun" like the 60's series. However, that is not what this movie series started out as. It is a betrayal of what had been previously established by the previous 3 as the expected tone of the series. So if they wanted to go in that direction, it should have been a new series of movies, not a sequel to the 3 darker movies that preceded it. If it had been done as a standalone and not as the fourth in this series, it may have been better received. But the tone being inconsistent with the rest of the series is only part of the issues this movie has, as I go over in my review. It would be like if the third movie in the Nolan trilogy suddenly went in a goofy campy direction for no discernible reason after having established the gritty realistic tone of the first two. People would be justifiably angered by that, as it would have been completely inconsistent with what had been established previously. Well, that is exactly what happened with this movie. You can argue that it's meant to be "enjoyed for what it is" like the 60's series, but it has none of the charm that old series did. The hate is completely justified, on multiple levels.
@raphaeldelaghetto855 жыл бұрын
@@zaranyzerak The continuity between those movies was barely existent anyway (At least after the first 2). Once Burton and Keaton bailed, all bets were off. Also quiet as it's kept, Batman 89... is fucking boring. Doesn't hold up at all. Cultural significance aside, I'd argue Batman 89 is actually a bigger betrayal of the character (ie. showing Batman kill without conscience and making the Joker the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents). Batman and Robin does nothing that egregious. It's in the class of "so bad it's good". Without it, we don't get Batman Begins, which IMO was the first great live action Batman movie.

@raphaeldelaghetto855 жыл бұрын

But again, since the Nolan movies, I've became very weary of this movie. Been a long time since I've watched it, but looking at the images, I can't tell this movie did not age well, in fact if it did age, it aged like milk. Funny enough, there's this guy on KZbin who just worships this movie to death. I won't say his name, but he's been getting this sick delight from bashing people who hate this movie and people who love the Nolan films. He even went as far as going to website where they explain the similarities to the "Dick Sprang Era". He claims because they borrowed so many moments from those comics, then its automatically more faithful and superior to Nolan's movies. Funny enough, that same site happened to point out the similarities of the Nolan movies and the comics, I should know, I visited the site myself.
