Parental groups ruined a lot of movies. Look at the first Ninja Turtles movie. It was near perfect. It had just the right balance of the seriousness of the comics and the comedy from the cartoon. So what happened? Parents who took their kids to see the movie didn’t realize that it was based more on the comics than the cartoon and felt the movie was too inappropriate for kids. The moralists complained and as a result, the sequel was toned down, lighthearted and dumb to the point where the Turtles weren’t even allowed to use their weapons most of the time. Instead, the sequel taught small children how to assault people with objects regularly found around the house such as yo-yos and sausage sticks. Way to go, parents, you dumbasses.

So, the way I took the Superman "joke" at 6:50 was, although Clooney's delivery is OFF by a LONG shot, Batman was referring to Robin annoyingly demanding a car of his own. That's why Superman works alone, so he doesn't have to deal with a bratty sidekick demanding things.

So why is there so much Batman "fans" that don't know that the comics of the sixties were _exactly_ like the Adam West show... making this movie pretty damn comic accurate. Not saying it's a great movie, but "fans" that hate it for "not being accurate" are just ignorant of the comics history. Also, this is still the only Batman film where Batman doesn't kill anyone. BTW, Nolans films are the _least_ accurate adaptations, despite their quality. That's coming from someone who's been reading comics for 30 years... "realism" is never what I read comics for... and _that's_ how you can spot actual comic readers, we don't give 2 shits about realism.

Batman and Robin (1997) is one of the panned film ever. I agree with everyone who hates this flick. Mostly due to the performances and child-like nature of this film. Similar to Battlefield Earth and this film they both bombed so hard at the box office. At least, Batman Forever and Batman Returns was better than this 1997’s film. Thanks to the failure of this film, we got Christopher Nolan to reboot this series starting with 2005’s Batman Begins, 2008’s The Dark Knight, and 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. And, re-rebooted with Zack Synder’s Batman with Ben Affleck in the role from Batman V Superman (2016) and Justice League (2017/ZS2021). Surprisingly, it was re-re-rebooted with Robert Pattinson in the role in this recent film. I do agree of letting the toy merchants being heavily involved with the project. I think, similar faith happened with 2017’s Power Rangers film from LionsGates. I think, if the Director focused on his vision instead of focusing on the toy’s vision of being like a cheap toy movie. No offense in anyway.

The score to Batman & Robin is superb and less frenetic than Batman Forever's and in my mind almost as memorable as Elfman's work on the series. Funny as a kid, I watched the hell out of this movie along with Batman Forever. It even introduced me to the character as a whole, and I've come to learn and accept that Schumacher's Batman feels more comical with some understanding to it, with Burton putting up a more darker tone but still finds some understanding. Needless to say as I grew up, I began to understand the critics bashing at this movie and it's completely valid. At one point, I sided with them too. But in the end, I only say my critics, and then put them away and accept them for what they are. But if I'm telling the truth... I don't think I'll ever hate this movie. I don't have to like it or not, but I can't hate it. It would just hurt my childhood, and I can't go through with it. So regardless of it's flaws and wrongs, I've accepted it for what it is. An imperfect, full of flaws, and a messy movie that is Batman & Robin.

The set design and costumes was absolutely ludicrous for this movie. They took what everyone hated about Batman Forever and doubled down on it. Over the top hammy acting and stupidly unrealistic set pieces that were too comic book for a movie adaptation. Then they did away with the serious darker side of Batman Forever that was it's saving grace. It's amazing how often this happens. People make a sequel to a movie and have ZERO clue what made the first one appealing. Batman and Robin is almost like a check list of what not to do in a super hero movie.

Who would you cast today as Mr Freeze and Poison Ivy? My choice would be Bryan Cranston as Mr Freeze and Jessica Chastain as Poison Ivy. That would be excellent casting.

From what I've seen, Poison Ivy wasn't very good in this film. The design, the casting and the character all fell flat. Your fan casting is already much better.

In all honesty, I would watch Batman & Robin a million times before I ever watched BvS, Suicide Squad, or Justice League again. At least B&R is entertainingly bad. At least it knows what it wants to be. At least it actually has colour. Most of the DCEU is a directionless, colourless, boring eyesore.

Phil Michaels I also feel this way. I think B&R is entertaining shlock, it's silly and it works on a basic level. I watched it for the first time when I was ten years old, so I actually disagree with Oliver because it was fun for me at that time, and still is. Of course in hindsight I would've preferred a more comic-accurate depiction of Batman, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying B&R every few years. B&R is so over-the-top silly that I think it can be forgiven. Unlike certain modern films *cough* BvS *cough* TLJ *cough* SS *cough.* Man, I need to get my cough checked out, that went on a little too long.

Phil Michaels, it just goes to show that Warner Bros. learned nothing B&R's failure. If Nolan wasn't a no-nonsense filmmaker, his movies would've ended up like crap from too much studio influence as well.

In fact I don't think it was trying to be like the 60's Batman at all, it was more of a comedy with the villains since they were portrayed as Joker knock offs.

Jonathan Campbell While that is true for Alfred in the comics, the problem here isn’t that Alfred is an engineer/designer, but that it comes out as very contrived.

This movie isn't good, but there are good things about it. Michael Gough's performance is great, as always, Arnie looks like he's really having fun there and the Bruce/Alfred talks were great and I was genuinely torn up when it looked like Alfred wasn't going to see the end credits. Plus, it's a good movie if you having a party and you and your friends want to get drunk and riff a stupid movie.

I'm one of the few people, apparently, who thoroughly enjoyed this goofy movie... I never took Batman or any comic books on that seriously, and the dishwasher and acting for the most part in this warm we're just fine, hell even impressive at times, and I have to disagree that anyone over 10 finds it boring or lackluster as a comedy because that's exactly how I take it... I know most fans didn't want that for my Batman film, but I was just fine with it at the time and still am... overall, as always a good review but I think it should be noted that you obviously weren't very impressed with this movie because you didn't end it with your usual montage of well edited scenes, lol again...😉

The 1966 show is so brilliant because it plays on many levels and they knew that it was ridiculous and over the top. Anybody who thinks that saying the Adam West Batman was corny has completely missed the point and apparently they are still being taken for a ride by William Dozier. This film however is all over the place because sometimes it looks like that forever and sometimes it looks like as you said 1990s CW Show. But I will say I find it hard to believe they didn't purposely try to emulate the 66 show because there are shots that are exact copiedls of the show notably the shots of the Batmobile parked outside of police headquarters. It is the exact same shot that was in every episode of Adam West's Batman
