The Stardust movie was phenomenal, guess it’s just one of those books 🤷🏻♀️

never read the book, but the movie stardust is my favorite movie ever so hearing you call it boring was shocking. Maybe its a rare case of the movie being better then the book?

As someone who has read the book and watched the film, the book is a whole world better! The film is so simplified and too child-like compared to the original story.

I really enjoyed Elizabeth Frankenstein but I totally see why you wouldn’t! It’s a polarizing book I think

I attempted the books years ago, because I liked the show, but I couldn't continue. I had started moving away from the vampire stories at that time. I like your comparison to Angel. I think that's why people like Angelus so much more, even though he's a sadistic bastard,. He's an interesting sadistic bastard.

There weren't too many I hated because I generally DNF them, but of the ones I finished, Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey was just meh. It's an adult contemporary romance, which I don't often read but was trying to branch into that was just a bit weird. The girl, Georgie was a party clown who wanted to be taken seriously and the love interest was an injured pro baseball player. I got creepy vibes while reading.

I mean, I enjoyed the Sookie Stackouse series and have read them all but as you say they're not well written, Sookie seems pretty dim and Bill is the worst...

The worst book for me was The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi. I gave it a 2.75 star. I didn't care for the story, it got very boring and I had no clue what was going on xx

Omg my husband bought me stormbringers which comes after changeling. It was also so boring and the parts that were historical were so inaccurate it hurt. I hated it. I only didn’t dnf it because he bought it for me. I basically read a summary of changeling to read the 2nd book.

I think that the Sookie Stackhouse series is a fun read but I agree that Bill is boring and uninteresting as a love interest

Same on Neil Gaiman's writing. I read American Gods and The Ocean at the End of the Lane because I liked Good Omens so much; especially that second book should have been right up my alley, but nope. I've sadly come to realise that he probably wrote most of the what I would consider more boring chapters of Good Omens.

It's funny how (bad) marketing can affect the enjoyment of a book. I am a huge fan of Philippa Gregory (especially her Tudors series) and historical fiction in general but Changeling was a huge letdown for me for almost the same reason as yours. Though I like my historical fiction to be clean and without any supernatural aspects that just don't belong after reading synopsis of this one I was ready for some werewolf or something to jump out of nowhere and since that didn't happened it quite altered my view of the book (which wasn't that good even from the beginning.. ). So all in all I'm not at all surprised this one ended up on your list of worst reads.

When Buffy was still on, or had just ended, and people found out how hard I loved it, everyone asked if I was watching True Blood, or reading the books. Everything I've heard has told me I do not need to read or watch. Mmmmm.

I love Neil Gaiman! He's a very personal preference author, though. He has a unique style.

Just based on the TV show, I would agree with that assessment of Bill. I know tit is not that the actor is wooden, but that that is the way he is supposed to be based on character.

I cackled seeing Dead Until Dark. I was not expecting it but it makes sense thinking about what you've read in 2019, your reviews and they our reading tastes. I'm not particularly attached to the series, I just wonder how much of your thoughts about how it's written are because of this series in particular or because it's the style of urban fantasies/paranormal romance. It's hard to gauge since you don't read either normally and your reviews are spoiler free. The example of Sookie's powers could go either way. That being said I'd love you to try another, higher rated series to see. Such as the Dresden Files or Anita Blake or Mercy Thompson series. But honestly, I don't think Harris knew what her reasoning behind Sookie's powers was going to be and that's with me knowing. But again, that happens in these longer series so I can't exactly be mad at it. Also, no on argues about Bill, lol. In fact, I think he's worse in the TV show where everyone else is better imo.

First books on urban fantasy series are often chaotic, even the first Dresden Files and Kate Daniels books are pretty weak and they are well regarded series

Hey, there! I have come to realise Neil Gaiman is a love or hate writing-style author. I do understand why you dislike him. I otherwise love him and he makes m laugh out loud!! Glad I can hear your arguments from the other side. X

You find out why she can read minds in like the second to last book. By the time it was revealed, I didn't care. Bill also turns out to be a peice of crap overall. I prefer some of Harris's other series.
