The coolest thing about this film is that the film is almost entirely practical effects. Even all the way down to the tree scene. The chainsaw scene even used a super cool dummy. I would recommend checking out a video about the special effects they used.

Y'all missed the post credit scene. It's Ash saying "Groovy." Puts the 'remake' claims to rest and instead makes it the fourth movie in the Evil Dead series. Plus, they did put past Evil Dead sound bites over their voices when they are possessed.

This is my favourite horror remake ever, and I actually consider it the best Evil Dead movie out of the 4, it filled me with so much dread watching it that few other movies have matched. I consider myself a huge Evil Dead fan, have been since I watched the first one 25 years ago and have an original movie poster framed on my wall, but this one really took the concept of the original Evil Dead, modernised it well and managed to be as shocking as the original was in it's time, but in modern times where it's a lot more common and hard to stand out. Also Jane Levy is 10/10, the pure fear on her face when she's hiding on the bed haunts me.

Yup. One of the very few remake done right in recent decades. It succeeded because it didn't try to be a carbon copy of the originals like so many try to be. Bruce Campbell, his acting, the dark humour, etc. - it's all irreplicable - so going a completely different route, but still paying homage to the OG, worked very well for this movie. The dead serious tone, the absolute brutality and the characters being a little more involved brought something new to the franchise, and something the next movie looks to be picking up which I'm happy to see. Evil Dead 2 will always be one of my favorite horror movie, but I can say this remake is easily on par, just on different aspects. And yeah, Jane Levy totally rocked this role in all its forms: Mia, a deadite, a demonic abomination and a baddass survivor. I do hope she comes back at some point!

Mia was to be possessed first because she had the weakest will. Possession often goes after those who don’t have the strength to fight back. Think back to Conjuring, oppression infestation possession. Often involves isolation.

By the way, one of my favorite parts of the movie was the musical score. Reminded me of the earlier Evil Dead scores but takes it to a much more intense and bombastic approach. Those sirens, string tremolos, creepy choirs/whispering and other sounds still gives me chills whenever I hear them! I'm looking forward to the new Evil Dead film coming out this year!

I’m glad Evil Dead won! It’s a ride for sure! Malignant is… a mixed bag, and has had a fairly mixed reception, but personally, I had fun with it. Look forward to your reaction to it! I think people are either watching the old ones for the first time or revisiting them in anticipation for the next installment. These two are great! Evil Dead 2 is not a remake of Evil Dead 1, it’s a sequel. They didn’t have the rights to use footage from the first movie so they reshoot a few scenes with a different actress. The first 10 minutes is like Evil Dead 1 redone until Ash got pushed up in the air, got knocked out on a tree and woke up possessed.

What I liked about this one is that not much has changed really. Other than no humor. Which is fine to me. What matters is that the story is the same... with brutal results. I liked that this has little to no CGI like the other films. The other interesting but quite messed fact is the main character's names spelled: "DEMON." Which makes it more fitting and adds to the irony of the movie. Also, each of the characters are basically the original cast but in younger forms... so to speak. Mia being an amalgamation of Ash and Cheryl. David was supposed to be Ash as well. Eric is Scotty. Olivia is Shelly and Natalie was supposed to be Linda. Of course, there are some differences between each character. For example, both Eric and Scotty were such assholes but unlike Scotty, Eric knows he fucked up and is not a coward. I don't know which one I hated more between those two though! The movie is also full of easter eggs and adding a bit to the lore in certain parts. Paying respects to the original trilogy, while also doing their own thing. Edit: Another thing I forgot to mention, is that this Evil Dead is not just a remake/soft reboot, it is also a continuation from where the original trilogy left off as well.
