It's how swiss stage is designed. If you go down 0-2, you will face the worst teams of the tournament. If you're up 1-0, or 2-0, or even 2-1, you'll face the best teams at the tournament. It's much easier getting to the 2-2 stage by losing games early and then beating worse opponents. After that, you just pray for a good 2-2 draw. It would've been easy for EU to copy the same strat, except MDK doesn't know how to beat wildcard teams and FNC always implodes as an org at worlds.

Honestly, all this shows is that winning early in Swiss is a huge disadvantage; Look at G2's draws and look at a team like TL and you can just see the best way to make it through is to just throw the first round and face shitters and maybe ONE serious team until knockouts

Why does everyone care who makes it to quarters? If a team is fraudulent, they'll get eliminated quickly. Swiss is a system that has existed in TCGs since forever, but what does it matter if EU goes out in Swiss and NA goes out in quarters or vice versa? This is a world championship, the only spot that matters is first place. Beat the team in front of you or shut up, because if you can't beat the team in front of you then you don't deserve to go further anyways. The order doesn't mater. The finals result does.

Honestly the west doesn't care about the Asians. They just care about each other. East Asians aren't exactly normal people, they're like aliens. They can sit for 1000 hours straight and grind hard at the game and dedicate fully. Whereas NA/EU are kind of slackers that also care more about having lives outside of LoL. If you assume that East asians aren't normal, then the only rivalry that matters is NA vs EU

Because people watch to see actual matchups between good teams? You want to see A tier4 team go all the way to the finals while playing against wildcards? I wanna see interesting playoffs where T1 has to play LNG, i wanna see HLE vs BLG, i wanna see G2 vs LNG. I DONT wanna see TL vs GEN or WBG play wildcards and shit teams to get to finals. It's a matter of interest. That said interest goes down the toilet drain solely because of the Swiss system.

@@toniyakovlev4403 Bit of a misleading example you have there. Very rarely does a "tier 4 team" make it all the way to the finals without playing at least 1 Bo5 against a top tier team. And if they beat that other team, then yes, they deserve to be there. Additionally, you still GET the matchups that you want, just in a different order. If Worlds would follow my idea of Bo3 for non-elim/advancement matches and Bo5 for elim/advancement matches, there would literally be no difference except for the order.
