Be sure to keep an eye on Chief and Eddie's hooves, after all that rain and standing in the wet. Their hooves can get soft and Crack. Plus they could get fungal or bacterial infection in them.

Sean, just a thought, elevate the current chicken coop on concrete blocks, run pressure treated slats from side to side so you can staple 1/4inch wire covered with perma garden fabric , the water can go through but keep the coop floor dry. add wood chips or straw over the garden fabric. It's strong enough to sweep off the dirty chips/straw. You can cut holes in the side of the roosting area and mount the nesting boxes on the outside for ease to collect the eggs. The opening will be inside the roosting area.

Hey Dutch and Brandi when y'all go out exploring the rising water you should take a pole or stick to test the water to see how deep it is. I know you plan to work out there to move the animals but in the meantime maybe you can redirect the water and have it go to the wet Creek put a call out to folks for old cement bags if they have any leftovers even if they've gotten wet and hard and they can't use it and take those cement bags and just lay them on the ground like stepping stones or a border in directions that you see the water flowing and redirect it where it needs to go. Like away from your animal pens. You can even use logs and just use mud or make up some crete and stuff in the cracks to divert the water... Plus you have a lot of rock out there on the homestead. Bring your skid steer back and start piling up rocks.... A lot you can do to divert the water from your animal pens 👍...✌️And Blessings

Have you thought about putting in a retention pond? With proper surveys you can find the right area to dig a good size pond. Then you can put fish in it also. Use the dirt you dug up and raise the levels of areas that would keep the water from flooding. Prayers 🙏🙏 for dry days

Unfortunately, I believe, they have a clay soil base, and that stuff doesn't suck up anything!! You would think that they would have great soil with all the composting leaf matter year after year, but with clay at the bottom, you just get boggy, wet ground with a clay underlayment. I have lived in places that had clay soil or clay underlayment. You dig a hole to plant a plant, bush, or tree, and it just fills up with water during rain or if attempting to water the plant, floating the plant out, because the clay is like a sealed, impervious base. It's great for a swimming pool or hole, great for a permanent pond water source for animals, not much good for anything else.

Water is powered stuff. Always be careful around areas where water is cutting into the bank. It is very easy to have your footing disappear. If you get more rain like that, I would invest in hip waders!
@williamsanders2808 Жыл бұрын
I was gonna suggest waders, but in flood waters, they can get you in trouble. That water can be flowing pretty fast, and strong. If you have waders on and get swept off your feet, the weight of the water now in the waders, will be the cause of your drowning.
@LindaSmith-vq1br Жыл бұрын
@@williamsanders2808 I was thinking that they had enough sense not to get so deep that the waders would fill.

We had a flood years ago that we got 4” in 2 hours. New cars were stacked on top of each other after the water went down. It was a long clean up. They even caught someone scuba diving breaking into a jewelry store. The cops were on boats and caught the guy. I still say you should use railroad ties to divert the water around your animal pens. Hai, with our future climate this type of drought’s and flooding in short times will become regular. Over here we build creeks and ditches to get rid off to much water and lead it around your plot. And bigger ponds to retain water for dry spells (much bigger and deeper than the one you have already).
