As a Sonic fan I can say that yes, people do still enjoy Sonic. He's not as big in the overall gaming world as he used to be but he's as recognizable as ever. He has a whole fandom that loves him and will bicker on how to get the franchise to improve for better or for worst. Things have been looking up for the blue blur and Frontiers is actually pretty good even with all its faults. I doubt this hedgehog will be speeding away anytime soon but we'll see how Sega handles him from here. *Fingers crossed* 😅

13:05 Actually, that is from Sonic the Comic, the UK Sonic series published by Fleetway (commonly referred to as "Fleetway Sonic") from 1993 - 2002. It's completely separate from the Archie comic's "Sonic the Hedgehog" series (commonly referred to as "Archie Sonic") that ran from 1992 until its abrupt (and quite unfortunate) cancellation in the middle of a story arc in 2016. It was quite a mess writer-wise until Ian Flynn took over by Issue 160. Personally, while I already greatly enjoyed it beforehand (most of the time), with Ian Flynn becoming the head, Archie Sonic became one of my favorite comic series to date and certainly my favorite piece of Sonic media (it's a real shame that it didn't get a proper finale). And just to mention it: Since 2018, we have a new Sonic The Hedgehog comic series by IDW Publishing that is, of course, completely separate from the two above. It's written by Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley and is a lot more tied into the game universe. And honestly, I quite like it

Sonic Frontiers, while not perfect, was such a breath of fresh air because, since 2010, the series has been mostly written by two people who (no joke) got their information on the Sonic franchise from Wikipedia and clips from cutscenes! It felt so great having somebody who really, truly cares about Sonic behind the helm! (I mean no disrespect to Pontac and Graff; I'm sure they're good writers on their own merits, but I just don't feel they were suited for writing Sonic.)

I’ll say this about Frontiers and you can make your judgment on this if you want. I wasn’t a Sonic fan, found the old games alright and the modern ones pretty bad, but the movies that came out recently started getting me interested in the series and then I played Frontiers and I love it. It turned me, a guy who isn’t really a big a Sonic Fan, into a Sonic Fan.

I'm not going to lie my guy, you're sounding like a real Sonic hater. And saying Sonic should have stayed as a 2-D game was your worst offender... As much as people like to say "Sonic had a rough transition into 3D" that's not true at all, considering the Sonic Adventure games, the first to fully Sonic 3D games are still considered to be some of the best games in the series and Sonic games have definitely changed from then. With the adventure games focusing more on momentum to the games like Sonic unleashed in 2008 to even now having a boost mechanic. And in terms of stories as Matpat said they can be hit-or-miss but most of them really aren't bad. Not to mention Sonic Frontiers has already won an award in Japan and is one of the fastest and best-selling Sonic games since like, Sonic the hedgehog 2 and Sonic heroes! Both of which were released 1992 and 2003 respectively. Also Sonic has some of the best and most iconic soundtracks in gaming history!

I honestly love Sonic Frontiers, and so does most of the fanbase. After the past decade of games pretty much *all* being pretty sucky (with the exception of Mania), Frontiers was a true breath of fresh air. It's fun, and it really shows the love for the series. It gets the characters right and _does_ add some really interesting things to the lore that I'm all for. The graphics might not be the best, but it's gameplay and ost MORE than make up for it. All but one of the boss themes are sung by Kellin Quinn from Sleeping with Sirens, and all generally have hard rock/metal/screamo vibes. The game might not be that interesting for those outside the fanbase (though I've seen many youtubers who've never even touched a sonic game enjoy the hell out of it as well), but it's AMAZING for those of us who are in the fanbase There are also a couple inaccuracies in this video. His point about the chaos emeralds "turning someone into a watery monster" was not the archie comics, and instead were the fleetway comics which are non-canon and have nothing to do with Ian Flynn despite what matpat said. Also, about the 'chaos is a mutated chao' thing; matpat says theres no explanation on how that and the Frontiers explanation can be canon at the same time, but he literally does show a clip explaining exactly that. The Ancients are the ancestors of the Chao - Chaos is a mutated chao, who mutated to look like their ancestors. I'm pretty confused on the point he was trying to make.

Best game in the series since Sonic Generations. Also, I much prefer the 3D games. The 2D ones aren't fun for me at all. It might be because I started with Sonic Unleashed, and I love that game, so I could just be biased.

I’m not a massive Sonic nerd (I was more of a Mario person) but I fucking love Frontiers. Despite modern Sonic getting bad reception, I still like the franchise. I remember playing Generations a ton on the 360 and loving it to death. The Sonic movies were the thing to bring me back to the series every now and then but Frontiers really did make everything cohesive and fit together in a very good way. I definitely want Ian to be the writer of the games going forward. I do think the series is majorly improving from what’s been happening for the past few years.

This theory btw is bullshit since not only matpat confuses different Sonic comics between each other despite them having different continuities and lore but Sonic comics never have intended to be canon. Besides, this game, in comparison with the games of an era that started Sonic Colors, not only have continuity instead of acting like it's a completely different world once again, but also tries to put things together. Don't believe matpat, he barely knows anything about the franchise (as so do you apparently)
