Can confirm, that is not the proper German flag (the red and yellow stripes are reversed), nor is it any country's flag. If that flag was rotated 45 degrees to the left (quarter turn counterclockwise), it'd be the flag of Belgium.

@@JohnDoe-wq5eu Yeah, Gadget Boy was a mid ‘90s show. It aired in one of those B-tier syndicated cartoon blocks that tried to compete with Fox and Disney’s similar programming blocks. Fun fact, neither that show nor the Gadget and the Gadgeteenus cartoon are mentioned in the “spinoffs” section of the Inspector Gadget Wikipedia page, it just skips right to the live action movies and short-lived 2012 animated revival.

In US law enforcement, going from Inspector to Lieutenant would actually be a demotion. “Inspector” isn’t commonly used (most departments use “Commander”), but where it is it’s an executive rank that’s only a couple notches below Chief/Commissioner (the highest rank in any police department). Lieutenants are a more “street level” supervisory rank one notch above Sergeant.
