This reminds me of an interpreter from here in Israel who once told the story of how his mother asked him to interpret for him at the doctor’s office when he was 10. Said doctor asked his mother if she was menstruating regularly; the kid didn’t know what it meant, so the doctor explained it-naturally, he was pretty shocked, but his mother was all chill about it like ‘yes everything is in order’

My father wore hearing aids but could partially hear. I hated this. People would always address me even when he would talk straight to him or just be rude. “Tell your dad...” If you’re loud enough, he could hear you. He might ask me to repeat things to him but he would write stuff down or read lips. He never learned ASL.

Oof you need more views! This is hilarious, and I'm sure it would teach some people a few things. I know a CODA in the interpreting major I'm in but she hasn't told us anything, shes a sophomore and we are freshmen. I believe her goal is to be a licensed interpreter or just improve her asl, but idk...because asl is her native language.

Many deaf people will disagree with me on this but I don't think you should use your children to interpret, You should get an adult to interpret or write

Didn't you watch to the end? The mother just proved her point why the stupid hearies shouldn't take advantage of CODA to interpret for free.
@DarkAurora20025 жыл бұрын
@@kyotto2656 I know but I do see deaf people in real life use their kids to interpret. I disagree with that but I never say anything

It's easy to slip into that trap. You have to conciously make a decision to avoid that. I refuse to use my kid as interpreter. People have demanded that my 4 year old should interpret and even act as the adult and speak for me, and that's so so wrong. I'm the adult and a small child should not be expected to do the job of a specially trained adult, for free. My kid has a right to be a child. Not my parent, carer or interpreter - My child.
