I work with kids who have autism. One five year old kiddo loves Shark Tank. It's his main reinforcer. He'll happily work for his Shark Tank tokens to fill his Shark Tank token board for a break to watch it. He gets super into it. It's wonderful that different kiddos like such a diverse range of things.

The worst part of those balance band demonstrations is that they *aren't* just the placebo effect. The demonstrators actually push on your arm differently before and after you put on the band. When they want you to fall over, they push down and pull slightly outward. When they want you to stay balanced, they just push down. And there are other similar tricks for the other parts of the demonstrations.

Fun fact about those negative ion watches, eye masks, blankets, and a ton of other negative ion stuff: They are sometimes literally nothing, but often times they do in fact use something which passively produces ions - high levels of radiation that are hundreds or even thousand of times over the legal limit in retail products in pretty much every country. They have a not insignificant effect in increasing you likelihood for cancer, especially with things like the eye masks which you are encouraged to keep on your face every night.

Well, that's horrifying. And of course, like the liars and thieves they are, it will come from some no-name seller who will have closed up shop and disappeared on to their next scam by the time you realize what's happened. I stopped buying from Amazon for this reason when I had the misfortune of buying a product that had stolen its reviews or they had been written by A.I. It's too hard to sus out the legitimate reviews from the fakes, so I've decided ti just not take the chances anymore. I've instead discovered new websites I otherwise wouldn't have if I'd kept to shopping with Amazon, so that's been nice.

Dragons Den is the name of the franchise and originated in Japan (Where it's called tigers of money). The UK version was the first international version and all other versions are based on the UK format. The name of the show is usually Dragons Den or Shark Tank (or some variation there of) and which one it is seems based on what they think will appeal to the local market best.

The fold ease is a rubber thimble that used to be used in banks to count notes, so you didn't lick your fingers to turn the dirty money. They also had little sponges in glass containers for the same purpose (cash money is actually really dirty)

The Canadian version of Dragon's Den used to have what I called "the montage of crap", where they'd quickly breeze through three or four of the dumber pitches that were out-and-out rejected. One that I still remember to this day was this guy who invented reusable pizza boxes, basically a large plastic disc that kinda looked like two giant frizbees stuck together. While the guy's heart was in the right place, wanting to cut down on the waste from the cardboard boxes, he didn't take into account how wildly impractical they'd be.

18:00 I did actually have to fold like 200 pieces of paper over a few hours when I was working at a hospital. It took a while, but the time consuming part was getting the trifold right and getting them into the correctly labeled envelopes -- not the actual folding part. Some kind of automatic trifold machine would have been better

I had to do this with invoices when working sales at a trophy warehouse. I was taught to tuck the paper under the lip of the envelope, fold up for the first fold so it will fit in the envelope, then take it out and fold the paper in to meet the fold. Place into the envelope, place the address label I just had to type on the typewriter, stamp with the franking stamp. Pull the strip over the adhesive. Sticky and bag. Still fold the paper this way 10 years later 😂

A friend of mine had a relative on shark tank, and they wanted her on there definitely just to make fun of her, she has said that they asked her to wear a jackass and come back out onto the stage. That "paper folding" guy didn't invent those things! They've existed for decades. No way he could get a product patent for the idea, only a design patent for making them thicker & colored. (Was he trying to make them cute?) I'm over 50 & as a kid I saw teachers, librarians & assorted office workers use them. Little rubber things, in a non-distracting semi-sheer color that you would just call white or nude, that come in 2 sizes to stretch over your forefinger tip or your thumb tip. Depending on what you need you get the set or just the forefinger one. It simply uses a tiny bit of friction to grab a single sheet from the top of a stack, preventing the germiness of the "lick your finger" trick & letting you get pages sorted much faster. It helped prevent paper cuts too, but that wasn't the intended function.

Whatever it was though, he still wasn't gonna get rich selling a modified version of something cheap that already exists in office supply catalogs & only a very small % of careers need. 😄 Sometimes people can come up with a truly innovative idea to modify something that a lot of people need/want. That will make money over time if marketed & produced correctly. But you have to do research & honestly think about how many people would really find it worth their money to buy your product once they know it exists. Even the best marketing can't sell a ton of a product that most people don't need.

the paper folding thing already existed they are called thimblettes or rubber fingertips. I remember my Mom using them as far back as the 80s. It is a rubber thimble with bumps on it that’s specifically made for use with stacks of paper.

I saw a video on that negative ion technology stuff. Turns out, they do release negative ion, by being highly radioactive. They are imbued with Thorium powder and while it's only something in the order of 200uSv/h, because they are to be worn 24/7/365, the levels of radiation become quite problematic. To the point the US radiation agency (I can't remember their name as I am not American) and the IAEA, have forced the companies out of business and banned the sale of these products, at least within the US.

In 2000, the National Nuclear Security Administration was created as a subcomponent of DOE, responsible for nuclear weapons movement, storage, disposal, and security procedures by the various Department of Defense Branches. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) underneath Homeland Security would hopefully detect the items in question and seize them. if it isn't under the oversight of the Federal Trade Commission since they would have to be imported, or the Federal Communications Commission if they had electronic components like that guy's watches... those 'radioactive' products would definitely be confiscated by the DOE and destroyed.

Normally i dont do this, but no, that's not remotely correct. Each congregation is given territory, and that territory is split up and put in rotations. JW's don't "target specific people". I don’t personally need Visually Impaired cooking tips yet (although with my genetics that might become useful in the future!) but I really enjoyed the cooking content and life hacks tbh! I have lots of other disabilities and would love to have someone with similar conditions teach me how to hack my life! But when I tried to share local places and their sensory, accessibility and general appeal people just weren’t that interested. I think the key is to link with charities. They have the groups of people who are applicable and they have advertising budgets and such! If you ever start cooking online again, please let us know Dave, I was enjoying the fairly simple, tasty ideas tbh!

I don't agree with zapping squirrels, but you don't have to keep watching the free food. If you happen to spot a squirrel nibbling away you have a zapping option, and I'm sure they will get the message after a few zaps. I don't like the idea, but it does make sense for those who only want to feed pidgys and not squirtles.

Re the Esso Watch, I once encountered a guy at a horse show marketing the exact same scam under the name "Mojo Band". My SO worked on a horse yard where a few riders wore the things to "improve their balance". My SO pointed me at the guy and muttered something to the effect of "do your worst". I have a decent scientific education and am a good problem solver. I listened to his speech, then when he was done I repeated it back to him. A crowd starts to gather as he and I engage. Once I got him to agree that I understood his process, I then outlined why each and every point in his five step process was flawed and how the test he outlined was a combination of the placebo effect and improvement due to practice (if someone does a balance task twice, they will naturally be slightly better the second time around because they know what to expect, scam band or not). He's started by claiming to be the inventor of this widget, but finished by saying he didn't know exactly how it worked, but it did and I was a skeptic. It didn't swing with the crowd. My SO recounted the exchange to her friends at the horse yard. Within the week, three mojo band users fell off their horses.

The whole balance gimmick with ion bracelets is a well known scan trick. I can't remember the exact steps, but it has to do with pulling the person's arm more downward vs outward. It's a well document scam tactic.
