Worst Levels Ever # 6

Unfortunately, although there are lots of fantastic levels and stages in video games, there are also a fair few awful ones. This time, we take a look at the super frustrating Diamond Sands from Blast Corps.
I will more likely pick bad levels from games that I otherwise enjoy. These are the ones that stick out the most and can bring good games down.
Please no suggestions/requests for any possible future episodes. There are two reasons why I ask this:
1. This video is all a matter of opinion. What might be my least favourite level of all time might be your most loved and vice versa. I'm hardly going to want to bash a level I love, am I?
2. I'm tired of getting requests or suggestions, and in this case, there's an especially large pool of choices, because just about every game ever has stages, levels and maps.

I hated backlash when I was small, but later on I remember finding out that it doesn't really lose speed when it skids. The destructive part of backlash is the backside, so if you throw yourself into a skid and keep the r button held down, you can keep moving at the same speed backwards. It takes skill to set up, and can only move in a straight line, but it makes backlash far more destructive, like a more difficult to use version of ramdozer.

I can see what the gimmick is. It's supposed to do more damage than the others when it spins but the problem is the fact that you can't control the damned thing as well. It's like some big warhammer in Skyrim. You have a lot of power, but you have to play smart so you don't miss. Fitting name. It's supposed to be powerful but the way that power is executed is what makes it terrible. Quite a backlash indeed. Sounds like a fun game. Shame I've never had the opportunity to play it.

You CAN beat it, but most people exploit a glitch to beat this level. You can get onto the train tracks from the starting point. When you are on them, your truck goes crazy, destroying the buildings in your way, AND the large buildings. Someone did this, and beat the level in about 25 seconds.

I never played this game before *Sees Backlash destroying the building by spinning around and the text "It's harder to control than you think". I think it looks hard enough already....well I would likley need MANY, MANY tries to beat this level.....

I laughed out loud as soon as I saw that truck in the thumbnail. Sadly, I never had the displeasure of making it that far. I never made it past the mission where the nuclear-bomb truck runs into the end of a railroad track which is completely indestructible. I could never figure out in time what you were supposed to do.

Was that Echo Marshes? You're supposed to roll the train car into the rail road crossing and the carrier can then drive over it.

As bad as that level was, Oyster Harbor was far more annoying than this. Out of all of the carrier levels, that gave me so much trouble because you had to do a lot of switching between vehicles.

Psychopulse75 I have been stuck on this game for 2 years and just a few days ago I beat Oyster Harbor. I was very ecstatic, I cheered loudly and clapped a lot, and that level had been trolling me for a long time as well. But now Diamond Sands is the only obstruction between me and the end of the game. It has made my hate of backlash very intense. This vehicle is cool but useless in tight spaces, in diamond sands there's buildings near the buildings you have to crush! Fuck me and wanting to beat the game amirite?

Ah, Backlash. The Neelix of the Blast Corps vehicles: everyone hates it, but they kept forcing it on us. The excessive use of annoying drift challenges wouldn't be matched until Forza Horizon 4.

I pick levels that were really fun to play, or any that blow me away with their creativity. The game's general quality shouldn't have too much of an effect, but it's unlikely that terrible games will have levels that I enjoy enough to be included in the series.

Sure it was a hard level but to be honest, when i was a kid i liked Backlash and especially this level so much that every time when i played a new run blast corps i failed this level whith the last piece of the bigger buildings in the end on purpose so i could play the whole level over and over again ,because i had so much fun with it. On the other hand, sadly there was nothing else to do with this level when you had managed the main objective. I hated the rocket bike most. But good to know that there was an exploit in this level.

Backlash is the reason I never finished Blast Corps. Most of the early levels are tons of fun, but once the game starts giving you Backlash for every level, there is no longer any fun to be had...

I'm playing this game for some months and really enjoying it, though I hate the backlash. I'm just stuck in this level for some days and went to KZbin to see if I can get some help. It took me to a video where a guy beats the level at the last microsecond before the red truck crashes into the last building and this video where I thoroughly agree with you guys. This damn backlash is the crappiest vehicle in game history.

Ah middle school memories...I hated this game but sat there dutifully and played it anyway back in '97...along with Mischief Makers, Chameleon Twist, Space Station Silicon Valley, and a whole lot of other strange N64 games in the early days of the console...

As much as your arguments here are valid (I can REALLY understand how frustrating the piece of junk is to use, especially for these levels), I personally would say that Oyster Harbor is worse...though this is mainly due to my own childhood problems with it. I remember one time i lost even though the game said "Path Cleared" because the carrier hit a railing on one of the boats at the end... You could probably also do the credits ending to this game as a Creepy Ending. It got to me...

There's also the glitch where trying to exit a vehicle in between buildings blows them up. It was probably intended for people who got stuck, but I figure most people use it to get past Diamond Sands.

Kaz Kopter Not fast enough, as the train car housings have 5 links a side. The "Z Trick" only destroys what's directly in front of where the pilot will exit.

I was so lazy to do properly the technique that I just rushed all the building with the front, doing the first building then exploding the second building entirely (both sides) with the gas plant (don’t know why but when you destroyed the 2 blue tank the second building was destroyed.) then keep doing the bad technique... and well I completed the level! Because they give you a lot of time since they know the technique is hard so doing the bad technique take almost as much time. So I completed the level in 2 days.

You can actually utilize this on more than just diamond sands. Any level that has backlash and sufficiently angled ares of ground, you can do it. Its most prominent toward the end of the game, when you get to demolish a base on the moon (To the point that there are craters placed conveniently to let you get air). It's not a glitch, nor a trick. its just a lesser-known ability of the vehicle everybody hates :3 Also, moon level. Y u no do a video on it D:

I loved this game but not this stage. I got all golds but I never got all platinums. I have no idea if there are more levels to unlock for getting platinums.

Are the levels you choose for your "Best Levels Ever" series also all from games you like, or have you occasionally covered one that was the one great part of a mostly mediocre title? If you haven't covered any such "diamond in the rough" levels, do you intend to in future?

Oh, YES. The vault is one of the worst moments in the history of the N64, right there with the Water Temple, but I actually found the vault to be worse. Water Temple is just a very, very hard maze.

Oh god I remember this level... though I think Oyster Harbor was almost just as hard, if not worse. There was one level I had an even harder time with though, can't remember it for the life of me. It involved a crane, and a massive building, and lots of TNT blocks and tedium. Felt like a puzzle level more than anything else, which explains why I hated it so much. All in all though I forgot how awesome this game was.

I HAVE raced Canary Mary without a turbo controller. How I did that when I was 7, I don't know, but I do remember taking a lot of breaks in between, severe hand cramping, and difficulty writing in school afterwards >
