Crichjo32 it's because he's not a smart guy and he tries to win by attempting to force people into discussions with complicated issues but only in terms of absolutes. He doesn't realize any of this because, like I said, he's not a smart guy, but he obviously gets off on being an antagonist and now the show is rewarding him for it.

chris brown Was his reasoning legit? All he saw was the color of the man Superman was saving thus making this the worst poster of all time? Yes pryor is being saved by a white man/alien but for Superman his job is to save everyone. A Uncle Tom is a black guy who chooses to be subservient to white people for thier own benefit (example Uncle Ruckus from the Boondocks). So if it was any other race that superman was saving Asian, Hispanic, White.... or even a female what would Rocha say? Definitely not Uncle Tom. And beside the Race issue the poster is cool looking compared to the other two....

Coy said his poster was bland and Carlson failed miserably. so if "its based on the arguments" Rocha had the strongest argument.

What Rocha was saying that the director wasn't aiming to make some sci-fi epic. He used to crafting French art house films - ala The City of Lost Gods and Amelle. So if you go into Alien 4 expecting a big science fiction epic, you're going to be disappointed because the movie and director aren't a good fit together. It's like pairing Andrei Tarkovsky to a Marvel movie; it's not an appropriate fit. Plus, in mentioning the fact that he is French also alludes to some loss in cultural and linguistic translation; which is actually true given the fact that Jean Pierce didn't speak English during the time of filming, so all of his direction come through translators.

If you watch City Of Lost Children, it's a slow-moving character driven sci-fi that features some really interesting concepts and designs and is more about the strange and layered character relationships than moving the plot forward at an exciting pace. The studio definitely should have known what they were buying when they hired him. I really like A4 overall -- but was a huge fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet before Alien: Resurrection and got exactly what I expected.

I'm a fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet as well and think that A4 is his worst film... I don't know that story behind the scenes, but it doesn't seem or feel like one of his movies - like the studio interfered. A pure Jeunet alien film would have been better and more interesting...

Resurection is a good film (good actors, good realisation, just keep in mind it's not a horror film) if you like other films of Jean Pierre Jeunet. Alien fans may not like it but it's a good film on its own, it's just very different from the other films of the alien franchise. Prometheus is a bad film on its own (the acting is terrible, the plot makes no sense, the writting is mostly terrible even though a few scenes are well written) and it's also a bad film for the franchise because the plot contradict a lot of things in the franchise (the technology is way more advanced than the one in Alien and Aliens even though it's a prequel, the creation of the xenomorph, ...).

John Johnston I actually enjoyed Alien 3 as a whole. The only dumb thing about it is that they kill Newt and Riggs off-screen at the beginning. Resurrection is by far, the worst. The plot was stupid, the acting was fucking horrible, especially from Winona Ryder, and the CGI is just plain bad. The only things I like about Resurrection are the scene where Ripley kills all the failed clones and the Xenomorph with human traits, which was an EXTREMELY interesting idea and made me somewhat accept the clone Ripley plot.

TRICK QUESTION: Am I the only one who don't really like it? I mean, I loved the Rocha Vs Mantz one because it was two movies they both love/hate so it was really interesting and they used REAL arguments to defend their points even if they didn't believe in. But, usualy it's like on this present show. It's just like sarcasm. You can see too much they fake to believe their point and, even if Mike managed to be funny, the fight has no really interest. Rocha tried to be honest sometimes, but that just 3 people semanticly turning bad points into good but often not with real arguments. Finaly, I just get bored for 10 minutes. Anyone esle?

I find it terrible. It has some good elements (some dialogues are very good, like the one between Holloway and David, Michael Fassbender acting is neat) but it has so many problems, the worst one being the plot. The plot advances only because the characters are very stupid and constantly makes huge mistakes (the crew take off their helmets, even though every scientist would knlw about microbes risk, which leads to the jars leaking the black goo because of air changes ; Millburn and Fifield are lost even though they have the map ; they take refuge in the very room they fled in the first place, ...) or because of plot holes (the creature in the abdomen of Shaw should have been killed by the surgery machine, Shaw run and jump a few hours after taking heavy surgery and tons of painkillers, ...). It's very frustrating. We don't give a fuck about most of the crew because they were not really introduced, when they die we don't care. That kills the tension of some scenes.

Alien: Covenant Has its flaws, but interesting, does fun stuff with the Alien, has some cool new aliens, and made David one of the best characters of the franchise. 4. Was like you upon the first viewing. Went back and watched, its far better than what people makes it out to be. Its not the best movie ever made. It certainly isn't a perfect one but I appreciated the themes it explored and the way it executed them.

It's funny, whenever i describe the alien series I say this. "Alien is the epitome of a creature based horror film. Aliens is a great action movie. Alien Cubed is not that great, and Alien 4 is a parody"

Alien is an atypical franchise, to me. there is the first movie and then there are three other movies that tried in different and more or less successful ways, but that couldn't remotely come close to the masterpiece that is "Alien". I mean I have preferences, I guess, but I don't really care for any of the sequels.

I love Prometheus, I will defend it and Covenant as long as I live :P The plot holes he used is set up for future movies or already explained, but it doesn't shove it down your throat. And the Engineer sacrificed himself to create us(seemingly), the black liquid terraforms any organic thing as shown multiple times in Prometheus and Alien Covenant, also what makes David interesting in Prometheus is that we see him having an alternative motive and show emotions.

Personally I don't think we've seen the last of the Engineers as we know there's one in Alien(1979) and they've obviously done planetary travel for a long time, using planets for their own betterment. The first planet we see them terraform in Prometheus is not specified, it could be Earth or it could be a completely different planet, but we know they use planets.

I do agree with you saying that Prometheus is a good film but I do believe that Alien 3 is just a very poorly filmed and terribly written mess which could've been so incredible but Fincher just wasn't ready for a big franchise film especially one that came off the back of two of the best Science Fiction films of all time (in my opinion). But I most certainly agree that Alien: Resurrection is one of the most horrific films in recent memory.

So much hate for Alien 3, I don't get it. I really prefer that the writers/Fincher took the franchise back to a darker, simpler tone of isolation and panic instead of building on action bullshit. Don't get me wrong, Aliens was fucking good, but moving forward with action in mind lead to some crap like Alien 4...
