I know right.... the experience of sitting through an excruciating movie, at the theater, is just so awful, so tedious, that the point is driven home: YOU have to take this seriously, you HAVE to do your homework, you HAVE to find reliable metrics that will never miss. what I've keyed in on is looking at the WRITER of a movie, what has he done before, and if it's nothing you've ever heard of or watched before, a lot of crappy TV credits, be very very very careful

There have been so many movies messed up by bad scriptwriting. You got your multi-million dollar SF movies with incredible CGI and graphics and production design, with ten cent scripts that screw things up (Rebel Moon, Prometheus and ever so many Marvel and Disney films). And you got your multi-million dollar action comedies with top stars in striking, luxurious locations, with ten cent scripts that mess things up (as noted by Chrstie and Alonzo, Red Notice and Ghosted). Great writing is rare and wonderful, but pretty good writing is not nearly as rare, and pretty darned good. Hollywood studios need to look HARD at their scriptwriting processes. All these flat-out crappy scripts mean Something is Not Working. I dunno what you can do about chemistry between actors, though.

Wait, I loved Renfield. It was ridiculously fun with a really new and fresh concept for a Dracula movie. Sure, some of the mob/cop stuff was generic and cliched, but as a whole it was a lot of fun and wildly entertaining. Oh, well. At least Alsonso put Godzilla Minus One on his 10 Best list... 😉

My three worst movies of the year all had the same issue for me with The Marvels and Aquaman 2 (add in Rebel Moon - The Zack Snyder Experience - Part 1) was that they all felt chopped to pieces and taped back together by someone that was doing it without any guidance or direction. I do give a so-so to Wish and Dial of Destiny, but I don't regret my time with them unlike my worst.

It wasn't this year, but have you seen "Tiptoes", the inexplicable 2003 masterwork starring Matthew McConaughey, Kate Beckinsdale, Peter Dinklage, Patricia Arquette, and in the role of a lifetime, Gary Oldman? The trailer alone is worth it.

A movie that I thought was going to be a worst of year contender but ended up in my Top 10 was "The Pope's Exorcist" Where "Exorcist: Believer" is a failed reboot, "Pope" is a successful 70's Italian-Exorcist-Knockoff flick. Screw the boring adventures of the Warrens. We need annual, wack-a-doodle "The Mo-Ped Exorcist" sequels. A cult fan base is already brewing.

There was a low-budget horror movie that came out in limited release last January called Fear that trojan-horsed a faith-based ending into its already terrible production. The climax involved the main characters trapped in a house trying to escape and, out of absolutely nowhere, one says..."Use your faith!" and she closes her eyes and a big cross appears and she's teleported into the middle of a park on a sunny day and lives happily ever after. And, yes, I did just give away the ending without a spoiler warning...and I'm not sorry and now you don't have to watch it and you're welcome.

Shotgun Wedding 4. Leave the World Behind (in the vast minority) 3. Strays (sorry Christy) 2. Hypnotic 1. Ghosted P.S. I also bailed out on two Netflix films. One, the first 8 minutes of You People, and the other, the first 15 minutes of Heart of Stone. I didn’t want to suffer 2 hours from either of those movies.

THE BOYS IN THE BOAT, George "I liked HOOSIERS and I've never met a trope I didn't want to include in my movies" Clooney tops my Worst of 2023 list, along with LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND, a cool concept made unneccessarily boring. For 2024, I already have my pick, and that's HE WENT THAT WAY with the on-fire Jacob Elordi and Zachary Quinto in a true story that should have been fictionalized. Nothing of interest EVER HAPPENS in it!

I learn to not be as hard on Robert Rodriguez through out the years. Like in Book of Boba Feet, they are riding speeders, and they forgot to use a fan as they are riding them... IT'S SUPER BASIC problems he has. And I never liked the slapped on filters on Planet Terror, but like every now and then there's like Alan Cummings or Steve Buscemi in Spy Kids where it's like all of this works it's charming stuff.

HI C&A, I know you get paid to sift the detritus. Tonight, we watched the wonderful police procedural French thriller "The Night of the 12th". I've seen some garbage this year including "65", "Malone", "Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey", ""80 For Brady", "Expend4bles", "the Marvels", "Meg 2: The Trench""My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3"...... I can't get these hours back.

It's hilarious when you both do these Worst Of lists. For me, the worst movies I saw in theaters were Elemental and Asteroid City. I also thought Killers of the Flower Moon, while not necessarily bad, was very overrated and had nothing going for it.

The worst movie I saw this year and I forgo it came in 2023 is Blonde which was a Netflix film that was such a slog to watch and somehow was everything that is wrong with art house movies, the only thing missing was it wasn't a French film. It was bad misery porn and the fact that it was based on a fiction novel made it somehow worse. Next time someone wants to do a fictional version Monroe they should do the one were she is a Soviet spy at least that would be something new.

I felt a surge of glee when I was you were doing your ten worst movies list. And then I felt a certain wonderful smugness when I discovered that I had not seen ANY of these terrible movies. I did however see other terrible movies. Or rather, parts of them, because unlike Alonso and Christy, I have the option of dropping out when a movie or TV show reveals itself to be terrible. I gotta say, I tried to watch a movie I found on Amazon Prime called "Imitation Girl." The plotline sounded so wonderfully cheesy: An alien takes the form of an adult film star. I was in for it! But it was SOOO DULL... had to bail after just 15 minutes. How do you come up with an idea that fun and make it so dull?

My number one is “Expend4bles” purely because it felt like my 13/15year old self (ages I was when I saw the first two in theaters) was getting shat on (couldn’t at least even been given solid action). “House party” & “white men can’t jump” reboots were 💩. “Meg 2” was BORRRRING. “Exorcist Believer” was just so frustrating (the first 30 minutes were a solid mystery thriller buildup then just goes BLEHHHHH)

I know it didn't come out this year, but I was still curious, Rob Zombie's The Munsters I saw for this Halloween, and it was definitely one of the worst things I have ever seen. Not sure if you've reviewed it yet but I do wish I hadn't seen it now. Took a lot of years out of my life and genuinely can't believe I was able to finish it. Do not recommend it to anyone. It will only kill your soul and leave you sitting to question all of humanity. Nothing like the classic show, I'll say.

I'm surprised Winne the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire aren't on either of your lists. I'm also surprised by how strongly you dislike the David Gordan Green Halloween movies. In comparison to the preceeding 10 movies, all three of these movies are better than everything but the original movie. (Halloween: H20 is also a decent movie but not a spectacular one.) Depending on my mood, I might even say Halloween 2018 is as good as the original, and certainly Kills and Ends are at least above average horror movies.

Post Knives Out, Chris Evans & Ana de Armas have done a poor job in picking projects :(
