Honestly, I’m not a big fan of YA. I’ve only fully enjoyed reading two YA series, Six of Crows and The Infernal Devices. I guess what I loved so much about Six of Crows was that Kaz always kept things away from the other crew members, meaning he also kept them away from the reader. Once you thought you knew exactly what was happening, he revealed something or did something smart which left you shocked. Also, I enjoyed that even though Inej and Kaz seem to love each other, they never really developed an actual relationship. The series wasn’t love driven, but very plot driven.

It's great to hear your review of books from this year. So many memories of review's past. Also, I'm always glad the book I published this year, One for the Road by Jeremy M. Moore, hasn't made it on your list. On the one hand, I think "how great would it be to be reviewed by Mr. Greene?" But then i think "oh crap, what if I'm on his DNR list?"

Does Daniel edit his own videos? If so he has very strong editing skills! Great comedic cut timing ...

Speaking of series: one of the things I love about the Discworld series is that it isn't written as a series. Terry Pratchett just wrote the stories he wanted to tell using the characters and world that he had created. If the existing characters couldn't tell the story he wanted to tell he made up new characters and sometimes new places in that world where he could tell the story. Every book is a complete story that happens to take place in an existing world. And every book is a story that Pratchett wants to tell. He never got stuck someplace he didn't want to be because he didn't limit himself to one set of characters or one type of culture.

I love that about it too. The fact that I can grab any of his books and not get confused while reading it.

I love your Dad's cameo, and totally agree! A bad audiobook narrator can really kill a book!

Great video, loved your dad's contribution at the end. He is so right about not suffering a bad narrator. It can kill a perfectly good novel.
