I find the key to everything is better quality, but dual use wherever possible. For example a heavier spork better if it’s big enough for a cooking spoon, and my sleeping mat doubles as a sit mat, and my lightweight fleece doubles as a pillow.

Yes to all of this! As most of my working life has been on tall ships and small boats I am all About the dual use. I’ve also found it been my own little way of justifying the price of some stuff!

Thoroughly enjoy your channel, as a foody I enjoy watching folk doing some proper cooking rather than using a Jetboil and an overpriced pot noodle. Got to disagree with the folding cutlery though, my cheap Chinese folding spoon and fork have served me well (Boundless Voyage, but I'm sure thay are all made in the same factory along with the "big" brands). Horses for courses and all that. What's life without differing opinions? Keep up the good work Sir!

Thanks so much for watching the channel. And for thanking some time to comment. I’m pleased you get along with your cutlery. I really wanted mine to be excellent. Horses for courses indeed. Always happy to hear another’s opinion!

Was considering the wind shield but that would crack me up.

Yeah. Imagine spending all that noise getting it ready to watch it just blow away! 😂

Could agree more with this. Those folding spoons suck and that titanium tin foil is just… very expensive noisy tin foil. So I now just use tin foil 😂 My advice is to buy the “expensive” tin foil, the thick stuff, if you want to go that way…

Agreed. The stuff made for turkey’s is a beast.

@@OffTheBeatenPot you can beat those “concertina“ type wind breaks … unless you’ve packed a Trangia 25 😂

I did buy the trangia Duossal fry pan and seasoned it in the same way as your other video. A little heavier, but worth checking out. Never really been a fan of “non stick”

@@cabbagemechanic it’s a great pan. And from a company that definitely knows what they’re doing.

Ha, surely everyone has one of those folding spoon/sporks! The eternal search for the perfect windshield. I fashioned one from beer cans. I used Fosters so noone has to drink those 2 tins. It's not perfect but a working progress

I saw an intriguing method to make a windshield from tins. I’m actually quite happy with the one I’ve got and I think my lesson is to actually see the thing before I buy it.

I have that titanium foil thing and think it’s a good idea but….. I have never actually used it. So I guess that says it all for me about that one. My favourite latest gizmo is the Xboil titanium ultra lite windshield and pot holder. Yet to use it though.

That does look like a good and useful gizmo!

Hello there Thom, interesting comments about the foldable spork. May be it’s down to inconsistency in quality control as I’ve been using mine for years and have never come across the problems you have. The sliding collar is still tight and has never bent. Like you said, there’s probably a factory that makes them all and individual companies then brand them as mine’s made by Boundless Voyage but is exactly the same. Anyway, great vid as always

I tried so many times with it. Unfortunately like you say, I got a bad one. I gave up on it when if failed while I was stirring a very hot Dal and I burnt my fingers!

@@OffTheBeatenPot Blimey, not good! Use it for ice cream? Obviously, for short trips and outings…from the freezer to your table/garden…. Seen your vid where you cook the veggie dhal and did it myself a few times. Great recipe.

I think it’s amazing. If they could take a leap of faith and make the peeler a little sharper it would be perfect.

Interesting - I’ve never used the peeler - so turning that into something else (sharp blade, steel) would be better for me 😂
