My family lived on a small farm in Glendale for 10 Yrs. All was well until the Oregon Government got into the pot business. Both farms around me were sold to pot growers, who were ex-falons from California. I called he sheriff more then seven times regarding crimes occurring, yet they never responded. The growers ran me off the road once, and shot out the rear window of my truck once, yet no law enforcement ever responded. We sold the farm, to a drug dealer, for half the recorded value. Yeah, let's continue to bash West Medford. Honestly the "bad" pockets are relatively few and far between. If the city would stop dumping on us and allowing organizations like the Gospel Mission to be located across the street from a school, the number of bad apples would decrease significantly. But hey, most folks throughout Medford including the city council like to manifest this area as the "ghetto" of Medford. The potential here is amazing, and most given streets in West Medford could be transplanted to the railroad district in Ashland and they would fit in. There's actually worse pockets with more crime on the "East Side." It would be cool if folks would stop with the lies about the West Side, and help us realize the true potential of a historical part of town.

Move here, we now have the worst water in the country due to tourism and the influx of people.
@vaughnslavin97844 ай бұрын
Concerning Cave Junction and the Illinois Valley, we're ok with the "wild west" designation. When I moved here 45 years ago, the city had a police department, the Sheriffs office was fully staffed , the forest service had a full crew and forest rangers. Two local lumber mills provided family wage supporting jobs, and timber receipts that helped fund the county. Tourism never replaced the loss of jobs caused by shutting off timber sales and the resulting mill closures. Millions of timber dollars were lost that funded much of the county government including law enforcement. The running joke in our rural areas is, the only millionaires here are people who moved here with 2million. Our last sheriff ran his election with the promise that he could run the department with the funds available. Fast forward to said sheriff laying off everyone and advertising on national news that he was the only law enforcement in Josephine County. Well criminals, look who's open for business! You can blame tax payers for not voting for funding, but you would be blaming people who lost their jobs directly or indirectly with the crushing of the timber industry. Our current Sheriff Dave Daniel is out standing and has put a major dent in crime. With tax payer approved funding coming at the end of this year, we're happy campers. With JMET busting illegal grows left and right, life has improved considerably. Nothing to do here? This area is the rugged outdoors with all the inconveniences that can come from rural living. It is also an incredibly beautiful area if you put down your phone, crawl from in front of your TV and go exploring. Glendale, Wolf Creek, Williams and the Illinois Valley all share this "wild west" label, and we're ok with that.

I left Oregon. I’m from the mid-west and moved back to California. Im moved from west coast 20 years ago. Was sold a lie. Beautiful place to live but the people and culture backward and why I moved back to the Bay Area. Too many racists, especially from the locals that are generational locals . I’m a realist and can accept no place is perfect. In Medford and Grants pass people are openly racist and say ignorant statements. It was the first place my 5 year old experienced racism from other kids. Many locals hate outsiders and can be very rude. Assholes aren’t just in California, as a mid-western manners matter. Smaller towns don’t always have friendly people. The cultural and educational resources just didn’t fit what was best for my family. Kids should grow up not having to defend their racial background or existence. And I’m white and my kids are mixed. My biggest mistake was not taking the time to check how the local culture would affect my children.

I'm always blown away when I read things like this. Not because I don't believe your story but because talking to other people they have a wildly different experience. My girl is black and has told me she's never had any racial issues. One of my best friends said the same thing. I even remember checking in with the head of our HR dept at work during the height of BLM to see how she was feeling. I asked her if she ever had any problems with the cops here. She just laughed at me and said last time she got pulled over going 20 over the speed limit they didn't even give her a warning. I was kinda pissed because I'm a white dude and have been pulled over 9 times and the worst thing I ever did was go 10 over the limit. 😂 It's insane how people in the same cities can have totally different experiences when it comes to something like racism.

There's incredible natural beauty, but as you mentioned local support for basic municipal services has clearly reduced safety and general quality of life for most. But city management and state socialism made towns like Grants Pass rapidly declining. The city fathers have FAILED Grants Pass. Increasing crime and homelessness, drug friendly. I really want to move out of G.P.

Yep. The locals call Medford, Methford. It’s gotten bad over the years, but wherever you have meth and opioid use, you’re going to have crime. Grants pass had one of the highest levels of opioid overdoses per capita in the country. And, you don’t get addicts to change by co-signing their addiction as that recent law did. Get a dui or possession charge, it should be jail or rehab. Get busted again, lose your drivers license, spend a longer time in rehab or jail. Worked well in Santa Clara county Ca where I was a MH therapist for years.

Real riders (not Harley poseurs) love twisty roads for fun riding. And yeah, I rode it a few times and always have that Meth Vibe around Cave Junction. Just a really odd place.

White City is not a city. It is in the Jackson County. White City is mostly industrial area. I helped Amy's Kitchen Inc to relocate to White City from Santa Rosa CA back in 2006. Wolf Creek, Sams Valley, Glendale, Cave Junction are considered 'rural'. Since the hospital was built in Grants Pass, many California retired folks moved there as real estate i.e. house prices were relative cheap! Grants Pass has the rich who likes to live by the Rogue River and then the poor then the homeless who camps at the park. I am a commercial real estate expert as a seasoned CCIM that I always ask 'What is the economic base of that town?"

As a retired health care provider, Covid was not crap. It’s a new heavily mutating virus whose job is to find hosts to live in. It doesn’t care about your politics, your ignorance, your rights, what church you attend, its job is to survive, period. Don’t talk to me about your bullshit about your medical rights, not under a pandemic. Where I worked before I retired out it was mandatory for me to get a flu shot every year, to be evaluated for tb every year, to get hepatitis B and C shots at ten year intervals, And wear a mask under Covid. That was to,protect me and patients from getting sick. Those people who worked in health care and didn’t comply, should not have been in health care to begin with and I’m happy they lost their jobs for not doing what the basics of medicine requires to protect patients and staff. I complied with all of that because I cared about my patients and their welfare as well as my own. What I have a problem with is the stupidity of people who know nothing about virus assuming they won’t get it. My colleagues had the most problems helping people who said they couldn’t have covid because it was a hoax, or refused to take the jab because they would die. How ignorant can anyone be. My colleagues got tired of all the grief they got while trying to save lives and some retired out or became roving nurses and docs. The reality is Americans really don’t care about our people, are selfish and believe everything the right wing misinformation media tells them. They have grown increasingly anti science and anti medical that is until you need medical help to survive and then you want medicine to save your behind. We are the only developed country without universal health care for all its citizens because that’s socialism. No, it’s called taking of your people. We largely don’t care.

If you live in rural SO, and you think law enforcement is here to protect you? Yes, you might be disappointed. If you have a fenced and gated property posted "No Trespassing", leave outdoor lights on all night, keep a 140 pound pit bull, and answer the door after dark with a handgun? Life will fine for you. The bad guys somehow figure out who will take care of themselves, and they leave you alone. In nearly 40 years here I've not had any crime problems.

I had a shop full of expensive tools and also some to take along and do onsite work with. (I still have all my tools, am just not publicly running a business now..) People came to my home and shop out in the country looking for me and my services, even sometimes when I wasn't there. Never once was I a victim of crime. You wanna know why? Even though I was a single guy most of that time I always had other people living there too. Housemates, caretaker, tenants, friends visiting. We might all come and go, but we would never all be gone at the same time. Simple. It is kind of what you need to do to be secure out in the country. A group of people all watching each other's backs. All the yard lights and stuff? That's just for the night creepers. They see all that stuff and they go elsewhere. When the Sherriff is an hour away (and won't come at all, unless for something life-threatening?) You have to take care of yourself.

Born and raised in oregon. Hes telling the truth. But it isnt cheap and local income does not match the median rent. Moving to oregon may be out of reach because of rising prices on homes and insurance from fire risk. This area is quickly becoming too expensive to live in for the young people taking care of the retirement community here. If you have teenagers or kids, consider the probability that they will not be able to move out on their own income out here. Being honest, even if you are thinking its cheaper, it isnt, the cost of living is higher than employers are willing to pay.

Ace hardware and Hidden Valley market are 12 miles away in Murphy. The Apple Gate valley is 6 miles down the hill, just a short drive to all the wineries. Plaisance Ranch & Winery right here in town, grass fed beef, wine and music in the summer. Hiking trails to the top of Grayback mountain if you got the legs built for that. I can cruise my quad to the country store for a 12 pack of beer. 🍻 Country living.👍🏻 Now that I think about it, keep telling everyone how bad Williams is……we don’t want them here.😁 Wife and I love the channel, thanks.

I currently live in have lived in Grants Pass since 1992 and while this used to be a really nice place to live the homeless and drugs are absolutely out of control. They're overrunning the parks and the streets there is paraphernalia and garbage all over. You think people that live down by the river would be cleaner .
@robinwilson84353 ай бұрын
It's a real problem in so many places. We find and clean up abandoned homeless encampments near the Willamette here in Oakridge. Piles and piles of clothing, boxes, even jars of urine (apparently they drink it for any residual drugs that might be present.) It's a constant problem in Eugene in parks and along the Willamette River. There's a non-profit out of Fall Creek that keeps busy just dismantling and hauling away abandoned trailers, cars and RVs. And yet we blame city administrations. Their hands are tied, we don't have enough housing for people who can afford it, let alone find roofs for folks who don't want to live by any regulations because they're ruled by alcohol, drugs and mental illness. Eugene spent $1M cleaning up Jefferson Park after clearing out all the homeless who had taken it over, and yet despite 'no camping' signs being posted, they constantly have to shoo homeless away. IDK what the answer is, since the rest of us want to live in safe, clean environments.

Klamath Falls. The amount of drugs and murders for such a smaller place is crazy! But I guess the fact that Air Force one can land here makes up for that. Want a good story? There was a Chinese restaurant that was always packed. I can still hear their commercial. “Sonny say, eat more Chinese foo”. We had a sheriff, and a few others, that shook one too many dirty hands and got caught one day. By the next day, the Chinese restaurant was closed. Sonny and family gone from town overnight. Why? Oh just some sex slaves/trade underneath the restaurant. There’s bikers in this town that still talk about the good ole boy about doing lines off the hood of his gov rig and even have pictures to prove it. But now, he’s gone and the homeless population that was never a thing here has started moving their camps to every corner. The amount of fentanyl is off the charts and there’s still lots of shootings. Moved from town last year. I’m more mountain, quiet and stars now. Only go to town once a week/twice tops. Cut friends off because they all started doing ..things that I won’t and would never have around my family. It was a good trade in the long run.

The sad thing is, that Sheriff used to have his son sell meth out of the sheriff's house.. I believe him and his family are still trying to "Yellowstone meets Beaking Bad" the area. The murders of young boys in the area from 2010 through current is appalling. Not to mention kidnappings/attempted kidnappings and sexual assaults.. At least the predators disappear when law enforcement can't or won't help. Drugs, "gangs," and corruption are the driving force behind the darkness in Klamath Falls. It's expanding, and I hope the good starts outweighing the bad. It's possible to live here and avoid drug, etc. drama. You just can't expect to make friends or trust too many people. I'd say roughly 1 of 10 people casually use hard drugs, and 1 of 20 people are probably too sketchy to even converse with.
