Shocked that Kyle Busch 2008 didn’t make this list 8 wins, #1 seed, virtually eliminated by the time we got to Kansas
@vanillawafer176Ай бұрын
I was going to include it; however, he did somehow get some decent finishes near the second half of the chase that year. In 2006, he derailed from beginning to end.

I didn’t even realize how bad JGR screwed over Erik until after he left Also I would argue Almirola had a worse postseason than McDowell in 2021 only bcs Almirola was being 🚮 in a SHR car while McD was bad in a FRM car

@LessGo7921 wasn't the almirola win in that new Hampshire race that had the rain delay and they ran it, then since Loudon doesn't have lights, they had to beat the sunset.

Yeah the playoffs stinks and we are so sick and tried of seeing our favorite drivers get screwed over because of the playoffs but you already know NASCAR isn't going to come back to regular season format anytime soon anyway so we'll just have to get used to it unfortunately.

I have an entire spreadsheet/ formula dedicated to ranking every playoff run in the cup series, the top 10 worst on my list are: 10. Allmendinger 2014 9. Biffle 2014 8. Stewart 2016 7. Kahne 2014 6. Dillon 2017 5. Bowyer 2015 4. Almirola 2014 3. McDowell 2021 2. Vickers 2009 1. Buescher 2016
@platypinetworkАй бұрын
I feel like the best playoff story and best performer isn't always the champion, such as a true underdog getting making the round of 8 and almost making or makingthe finals. Like the 2015 season had a weird playoffs because Kyle Busch went under the radar and survived to get to the finals largely because of Logano and Kenseth dumping each other. I don't remember all the winners that year but there weren't many upsets, it was the usual Gibbs/HMS/Penske I'll say an example of that is trackhouse in 2022 with Chastain. The team is mediocre but had some shining moments that year, including the Hail Melon, to advance to the finals. Another moment like this is the 2014 playoff run where newman finished 2nd without winning a race all season (largely helped out by favorites like brad and gordon crashing)
@TheLockbeardАй бұрын
I’ll die on a hill by saying that the regular season champion should go straight to the final four as a true reward for being the fastest and most consistent driver out of the regular season.
@ScroobooАй бұрын
Never thought of that... Hell of an idea
@EndlessFlameout4Ай бұрын
Maybe but I think that's too rewarding. Straight to the round of 8 could work
@qgaming6104Ай бұрын
Tbf tho, the regular season championship does get that reward majority of the time by the shear amount of bonus points they get for winning it

@michaelbelcher8805Ай бұрын
Nah I don’t think that’s right, way too much of a gimmick. Maybe round of 16 immunity like a Bye but not that
@K9RacingAndStuffАй бұрын
The worst part is because of how goofy this first round is, at worst, Harrison Burton might only be towards the middle of this list. Which is incredible, really, that i don't think he can collapse worse than 2021 Michael McDowell.
@fisherstudios6525Ай бұрын
first off, Austin was justified. he dumped two drivers for a win which IS crossing a line. it does work but only if you earn it. Austin wouldve earned it truly if Stenhouse didnt live up to his nickname. you cant bash Austin anymore for "winning" Richmond when he COULDVE won it. kid got desperate.

Not enough people talk about the wild card "win and your in" format of the Chase before 2014's playoff system was introduced. 10 drivers made it in the Chase on points and 2 drivers from outside the top 10 made it in with a win. I much prefer the current format.
@dennisbowen452Ай бұрын
I know slap gets it wrong every time he mentions it funny enough. That format started in 2011 and ended in 2013. 2007-10 was 12 in points wins don’t matter you could have 4 wins and not be in the playoffs if you were 13th in points after Richmond. 2004-06 was same but only 10.
@nachoalvarez7171Ай бұрын
@@dennisbowen452yes, although there was also a rule at one point that any driver outside the top 10 within 400 points of the leader makes it to the chase anyway, so if McMurray in 2004 didn't get a 25 point penalty he would've made it even if he was 11th in points
