Thanks to everyone for the great questions. I had fun with them.
Here are the questions. . .
1. The tooth, what happened?
Ethan, check this video: • Why I Quit MMA, Cuttin...
2. What position did I struggle with the most as a White Belt?
3. Do you use any beard products?
4. What do you do if you're doing MMA and want to do more BJJ?
5. When you did powerlifting and BJJ, did you feel that one hindered the other?
6. What's the best way to get a BJJ Black Belt in a year or less?
7. What's the best way to train leg locks?
8. What's your favorite thing? A sneaky submission, unexpected sweep or finally executing a new setup?
9. Do you even lift?
10. Why do you have liabilities?
11. When are you guys going to make no liabilities shirt?
12. Can you make a wookie noise?
13. What is your favorite craft beer, craft brewery?
14. All time favorite submission?
15. Who's number 1?
16. At what point do you give up trying to explain Jiu-jitsu to your friends? When you're friends ask "How's the karate going?"
17. If you could fight 100 duck sized Chad Hardy's or 1 Chad Hardy sized duck. Which would you fight?
Thanks for watching!

No embarrassing moments in Jiu jitsu?? Iv been doing bjj on and off for a few years and I moved around a lot, so I never actually earned a stripe before. I finally get a job where I can consistently train at 1 gym. After 3 weeks of consistently out performing most white belts and having good rolls with blue belts, my professor gives a speech about a student who is long overdue his first stripe. I really didn’t think much of it. I take my glasses off when I train and can’t see faces well, so when he looks in my direction and says “step forward my man” I could have sworn he was looking me in the eyes. I step forward in front of the whole class....”uhh, no not you buddy”. If I ever get a stripe, someone will have to physically drag me to the front of the class.

I was at a seminar in Gatinou Quebec training with Erik Paulsen and Carlos Newton. I was completely starstruck. Carlos Newton was demonstrating a move from side control. Hey thanks for the videos, they have been a huge help in my game. Half guard in particular is something that is oftentimes neglected or over looked but a position I’ve found my self in a lot. In fact outside of a transition to deep half I don’t think it’s ever been covered at my gym. Thanks to your videos and some dedicated training rather than just stalling the pass a little bit I’ve found that I can sweep or take the back pretty reliably. It’s my new go to position.

Wait your name is Nick??!?! My whole life is a lie... Also my professor told us a story the other day about a guy who actually pooped his pants on his first (and last) day. He was a super macho, cocky, military guy and he came in to try out the gym. He rolled with one of our current brown belts, who was a purple belt at the time, who has a really good knee on belly. Long story short, he knee on bellied too hard and this guy pooped himself on the mats. He screamed, 'I fucking shit myself', ran to the bathroom, then slinked off to his car and left. The funny thing is he told all his buddies on base that he whooped everyone at our gym, so they're all coming in talking about and my professor just went, 'no he literally shat himself'. There's also the story about the guy who went full zombie, groan, drag a leg, both arms in front of him, the whole deal, after getting knocked out in a choke. He was out on the mat, then he stood up and just started waddling around like he's auditioning for the walking dead for a few minutes until he snapped out of it. A lot of weird shit happens at my gym I guess lol.

powerlifting has a very different bioenergetic requirement than BJJ.... I was a internationally ranked USAPL lifter in the 90s and also boxed... two different bioenergetic requirements... boxing had to take a backseat, and thank god it was amateur boxing so 3 1min rounds. True specific powerlifting training regiments will probably do little to enhance your BJJ capabilities.

quickest someone has got a brown belt I know of is 19 months, that was Satoshi Ishii considering he came from a background of both Kōdōkan and Kosen Judo he already had an extremely strong base to come into BJJ which he did for his MMA career. Also the Martinez brothers got their 10th planet black belts in 3 to 3 1/2 years but both came from a break dancing/gymnastic background and were training with Eddie Bravo for hours a day. As a general rule you can't get a decent black belt in a year.
