Oh man we’ve tried all sorts of stuff to make the accurate and failed every time. It’s a .670 slugs making it trusty a 16 gauge slug, they are paper thin and not nose heavy. They even did terrible in a rifled barrel using a much better wad. Wee even took them apart and loaded the actual slug in 16 gauge shells and even that was just awful to say the least. It truly is the worst 12 gauge slug on the market. Their mini slugs are good though. Totally different design.

Yeah, I saw you guys did a bunch of testing with them and didn't get any good results. That's part of the reason why I didn't expect these to do as well as they did through my setups, granted they were still terrible
@chateaudedoggy91932 ай бұрын
Did it ever occur to you to test them in the weapon they were designed for? A smooth bore with cylinder choke.
@matttyreeoutdoors2 ай бұрын
Well, these are a sabot slug. Sabot slugs are designed for rifled barrels, not smooth bores. Plus, both the slug and sabot are undersized, so if we were to test them through a cylinder choke, it would essentially be like firing a hotdog down a hallway. That's why I decided to go with the full choke in the smooth bore with the hope that it would roughly match up with the diameter of the slug and sabot and potentially help them out a little
@caniaccharlie27 күн бұрын
Oh wow!!! How are these so bad? How is the group out of the rifled barrel so big but they were obviously flying stabilized? Then the groupings out of the full and rifled were tumbling so much but tighter? I hadn't seen other videos of these before, so I would've probably bought some to try out, but I'll pass on these if I ever see any. Thanks for the testing!
@matttyreeoutdoors26 күн бұрын
Yeah, they are pretty terrible. It's an undersized projectile in what is supposed to be a sabot but is actually just a field style wad, so it's essentially like firing a hotdog down a hallway. The guys over at The Shotgun Scientist channel tested these with the same, if not worse results, so I would definitely avoid them

Shot these out of a 28” barrel mossberg 940 pro and I missed paper so many times from a rest at 25 yards lmao😂

Yeah, they were definitely pretty bad

I bought 200 of these at the height of the pandemic and i found out they were shit later. I just figured the company had a bunch of random stuff that didn't go together and they threw it together anyway 😂

Yeah, that would kinda make sense with how they performed

Matt really good expanded testing I also have one of those rifle chokes , have not even tested it.The Sterlings might be good inside of a barn if you are trying to hit the barn LOL the tumblings really is what I see as the worse part of it. Not stabilizing. A pumpkinball might be as good.
@matttyreeoutdoors5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was surprised to see that the rifled barrel was the most stabilized but the least accurate. The smooth bore was definitely the worst, so I was surprised we saw as "decent" of accuracy as we did out of it

For a cheap day at the range, maybe. But for anything else, they are terrible

Matt, what would be your choice of lead turkey load to use in a 12 gauge with a 2-3/4 inch chamber and fixed full choke?
@matttyreeoutdoors5 ай бұрын
I don't think I've really tested many 2-3/4" lead turkey loads yet, simply because their just aren't very many out there. We have tested the Remington Nitro Turkey 2-3/4 shells and they are terrible. I do know that Winchester makes, or at least did make the Longbeard and Double X shells in a 2-3/4, but I don't think they are really easy to come across lately. You might want to look at Salt Creek. I don't think they have any lead turkey loads listed on the website, but I know that they will load almost anything you want if you send them a message about it. We have tested some 3" lead loads from them with great results in the past, so I know they can load a great shell. They are great guys, so it might be worth looking into
@lukea28065 ай бұрын
@@matttyreeoutdoors Longbeard XR in 2-3/4 doesn’t exist any more, I’ve looked very hard for them. Whatever the ones in the grey box are (super x?) I’ve found the 4s and 5s but haven’t patterned them yet. I’m not expecting to be too impressed but I guess I could be surprised.
@matttyreeoutdoors5 ай бұрын
@@lukea2806 we've tested some of the super x 3" shells with some surprisingly decent results, so you may be surprised. I think the biggest limitation is that fixed full choke. If you want to use a lead shell, you might just have to limit yourself to like 30 yards or so

I heard the sterling big game slugs are way better than the tornado slugs.

I actually do have some of those big game slugs. I plan on testing them soon, so I guess we'll see how they perform

What brands do you guys recommend?
@matttyreeoutdoors3 ай бұрын
If you're looking for slugs, Brenneke is usually a pretty good bet. You can get good results from Federal and Remington and others, but Brenneke generally does well through most setups with a good majority of their slugs
@craigsly93355 ай бұрын
I definitely won't be picking up any of these. I'll stick to my challenger slugs.

Interesting. I got like 60 of these slugs to test. I haven't shot them yet. They are dirt cheap though near me so i got some to try. Edit This is after i watched the video. I will be back later when ive shot these to give you my results. I do believe that the best slugs are just the ones that shoot rifled slugs themselves. They are really aerodynamic and give you the accuracy you are asking for at 75-100 yards.
@matttyreeoutdoors3 ай бұрын
I wish you the best of luck when you test them, but they don't seem too promising. Let me know your results

For this sabot is a terrific rifled and full chocke barrel! The optmal test use the cyl bore for my opinium. Sorry for my english my friend 😊
@matttyreeoutdoors5 ай бұрын
Well, it is an undersized slug at .670 diameter, so a cylinder choke would most likely make it even worse

this slug special designed for rifled barrels
@matttyreeoutdoors3 ай бұрын
Well, we did try them in a rifled barrel, rifled choke, and a smooth bore in this video and they still were terrible. There's no way that the "sabot" they were using would ever hold up and consistently withstand being fired through a rifled barrel, that's why they just flat out suck
@pensnut085 ай бұрын
I got them for HD, not deer. I'll try them in my 870 with a rifled barrel and my Mossberg smooth bore.
