It feels like Austin isn't responding to what Matt is saying about the iPhone 16. Austin says it's his "favorite iPhone ever" but to me that's sort of meaningless. It's the newest one, so yes, technically it's the best iPhone there is, but Matt isn't saying that the 16 is worse than the 15. He's saying the jump from 15-16 is the least impressive ever, which I think is true. The flagship feature still hasn't fully launched and unlike previous releases where there were features that might make you want the new phone right away, even if you already had the most recent version, it's hard to see any reason to make the upgrade if you own an iPhone 15.

What are the positives...and do they outweigh the massive negatives of mass content theft to train the AI, the threatening of people's livelihoods in creative and non-creative spaces, the environmental impact, making the creation of disinformation easier and more convincing or the fact that AI has been shown to have made fundamental errors in the information and advice it has given out to people that could be dangerous? Help me out here. Someone has talked below about AI predicting cancer cells early, and that IS a big one, but those other negatives really need to be addressed and the whole thing needs to be regulated.

What are the benefits of AI that are supposed to outweigh the COLOSSAL negatives? I'm seriously asking. It needs to be really huge positives to outweigh the environmental impact, the way AI makes spreading disinformation and fakery much easier, the human cost of AI being used to replace artists of all kinds, the fact that AI does what it does by stealing shit that people made and there's no compensation for those that were stolen from etc. The doe-eyed "Gosh, isn't AI neat?" is getting tiresome as fuck. Saying "It's here to stay, so we need to live with it" is not only bullshit, it's basically a threat considering just how wrong things can go without human intervention. AI threatens to absolutely trample a lot of creative people and cost people jobs...just shrugging and saying "Ah well" is a shitty thing to do in the face of this unchecked nonsense.

I'm honestly over all the AI nonsense. My iPhone 15 Pro got Apple Intelligence, and I honestly forget it's there. And I've seen a lot of things branded as "AI" now. Like I saw an AI Air Fryer at Best Buy, when it was just a regular air fryer with a whole bunch of different settings. I understand that it can be helpful in some situations, but I'm just over every company shoving it down our throats, and I feel next year it's only going to get worse.

iPhone 16 should be on the same tier with Samsung while Pixel should be lower. Considering how much worse this Tensor chip is compared to Huawei's Kirin, it is just ridiculous at this point that I don't think anyone can justify. Is Google also in sanctioned? While iPhone 16 received very little update, at least it (finally) came with 8Gb of ram and a decent A18. However, with the hardware in placed, this is the year that iPhone had a terrible software update. I hated IOS 18.2 and disappointed that Apple Intelligence is still not available, and Siri is still not performed well. With the good software and AI features Gemini provided, Google should really work harder for their cpu to be threatened enough against apple.

S : mac mini - i personally love macs, and the capabilities of this one in such a small package is fabulous. A : meta orion / raybans - the raybans are pretty cool, although i feel like they can do most things a phone can, and the meta orions are cool too but again, they can do what the apple vision pro or meta quest can do. on the upside, they are both sunglasses, so that sleek and lightweight design, paired with some good software is pretty nice, although i will say the orions frames are a too chunky, they need like orion slims. B : pixel 9, samsung s24, z fold / flip 6, iphone 16 series - they’re all great phones with good specs & capabilities but they aren’t revolutionary, it’s just like every other phone that comes out each year with better features & performance, but those improvements do bump it up to B tier. C : vision pro & cybertruck - i feel an apple version of the meta quests is so cool, and it’s got smooth interfaces, good for certain interactions too. the biggest downsides are the price and the app selection. the meta quests are pretty similar for a much lower price, with more app selection, therefore, making the apple vision pro just a sleeker gadget in comparison. the cybertruck was also cool, but too much like a regular tesla bumped up way too much in price just because it looks like a delorean. D : smart ring, chatgpt, microsoft surface & switch 2 - the smart ring has cool and better data tracking, but again, you can get similar practicality and performance in a watch WITH a screen, and quite a few require subscriptions, add-on purchases or even accessories, which isn’t sufficient enough to give it a good score. the switch 2 isn’t even out yet but the features and performance it will have should be really good, but again, the “scam” and obsoletion does make it a D tier. chatgpt has cool features, but its controversies are quite significant. the microsoft surface is a windows laptop, which only boosts gaming, all the rest are so much better on macs. F : rabbit r1, fisker ocean & ps5 pro - while they first 2 had good ideology, the effort in the r1 failed as it was literally just android on a pin, and the fisker oceans lack of budget meant its stupidity just couldn’t reach a decent score. on the contrary, the ps5 pro was barely even an upgrade, no new design, a way overpriced console and no effort put into making good new features.

Ai is the equivalent of windows recall mixed with a dystopian future since scammers and hackers already are using ai since they have access to ai. Ai is already being used to record peoples voices to scam people since the ai voices uses a real persons voice that they record whenever someone says yes to something over the phone with social engineering and it'to end ups doing stuff to access personal information like passwords and other personal information that people don't want leaked on the internet. I always take what the manufacturers and corporations says that ai is on device with a grain of salt because the terms and conditions can be manipulated with ai with force arbitration. There is no law against using force arbitration in the terms and conditions since it's a loop hole that manufacturers and corporations will exploit and include ai in the terms and conditions when they say is on device when in reality that ai is not really on device. I don't want ai to be part of force arbitration with the terms and conditions since it will be used for nefarious reasons to exploit the users with devices and the technology being used with ai will do more harm than good. Ai will be used as an excuse for convenient purposes and than the harmful aspect of ai will be swept under the rug because everyone will end up doing the same thing. The people will end up being ok with the technology because the large majority of people crave anything that is convenient without realizing the negative implications that it will end up causing. When things are convenient there is always a catch but it's never talked about or ever mentioned.

the thing is that now "AI" basically doesn't mean anything. it's a buzzword that everyone throws into marketing. sometimes it's machine learning? sometimes it's generative models? sometimes it's some third party seller on Amazon who heard it was the new term for "smart". and yeah, some applications of machine learning and adjacent technologies are genuinely useful and going to stick around, but dumpstering your household name search engine in favor of feeding people LLM hallucinations is Not The Move.
