The quotes you provided simply say that it is possible in some cases to take counteractions, but that doesn't mean you have powers beyond what is described in the rules for each of the counteractions, which generally only allow you to counteract if you are the target of the action. If you're going to be pedantic, at least be right as well.

For all that it is, I think my favorite clip from this is the "no" regarding the spell energy capsule during Calamity - because I'm not sure advantage would've been enough to survive, but HAVING that energy available made the later revival possible. And there's no POSSIBLE way to be sure if Brennan had done that calculation about spell slots, but I can't put it past him at this point. Sometimes being a cruel DM leads to a better outcome. Hell, even if it wasn't purposeful, the fact that it worked out as it did, and everything that came FROM that spell energy not being used up beforehand, makes it my favorite. A single "heartless" No changed so much.

Brennan's DMing and NPC character delivery in Calamity is an absolute masterclass. I've honestly never seen another tabletop AP measure up, and I doubt I ever will.
