None of these things are created purely as a creative effort anymore, as an expression, as just a bit of fun they decide to share. Everything is monetized. Everything is sold or used to sell something. Ads, merch, donations, subscriptions... Don't get me wrong. People are genuinely awful, myself included. But the internet is too. And while youtube used to be the catalyst for great things and communities, it has ruined all of that in favour of commercialising *everything*. There has always been toxicity. But the environment is toxic now too. It all just feeds off the other side and becomes worse... endlessly... And to get back on the monetisation, I think as soon as it's for profit, you lose the right to claim it's a fun project, or it's just for people to enjoy. Because it isn't. There's a much deeper conversation to be had there, about making a living, a career doing what you love, capitalism, society etc... But my point is that it's not *just* people being assholes. Unless it is free. Not monetised. Not connected to merch. Then, the haters have no leg to stand on and should just move on. Or not move on and just listen to the same thing they used to listen to. Over and over. If it's so much better....
