This mixer stands out from others in several ways, primarily because it is equipped with a companion app that provides several additional smart functions. For instance, the app can weigh what's in the bowl and detect the torque from the mixing head, adjusting its mixing power accordingly. The GE Profile Smart Mixer has an 11-speed motor with Auto Sense Technology that can distinguish between mixing cake batter, kneading dough, and whipping cream by sensing resistance in the bowl. This technology controls the motor's torque and speed, supposedly creating the perfect texture for your recipe. Additionally, it can automatically stop when the dough reaches the perfect firmness to prevent over-mixing, a common mistake that can ruin a recipe.

To use the GE Profile 7-Quart Smart Mixer with Auto Sense, you need to prepare and connect a few components. The mixer is quite heavy and weighs over 53 pounds, so it can be challenging to move. The package includes the weighty mixer motor, a stainless steel bowl with a handle, a pouring spout/mixing shield, and three attachments, including the 11-wire whisk, a batter beater, and a dough hook. Seating the bowl in the mixer arm is a bit different than other mixers. Two angled levers poke out from underneath the C-shaped mixing bowl seat. To release the bowl, place your thumbs on both levers at the same time and push down. To keep the bowl in place, push the levers up and click them.
Next, you need to pair your GE Profile smart mixer with your home's Wi-Fi network using the GE Smart HQ app. After logging into or creating an account, plug in your mixer to begin the pairing process. The app will guide you through the steps, and you should be connected in just a few clicks. The app and the wireless connectivity enable you to cook using guided or auto sense recipes.
Guided recipes are recipes that are provided step-by-step for you to get the most out of your mixer. The app will guide you through the steps and even take weights of ingredients to assist you. Auto sense recipes, on the other hand, allow the mixer to monitor and detect changes in viscosity of your batter or dough, using measurements of the motor's torque. This feedback is used to optimize mixing, whipping, and emulsifying, theoretically providing perfect results every time.
You can operate the mixer in two ways. The first is on the mixer itself by using the LED-lighted dial and a small screen on top of the machine to select speeds and see what's going on. The other way is to control it with your smartphone. However, while you can set the speed and duration of your mixing on the app, you still need to go to the mixer itself and touch the start button on top of the machine for the commands to take effect. The mixer is not completely autonomous, which can be seen as a safety feature. Attaching and detaching the components is easy, with the attachments simply pushing and locking up and in, and removing them by pushing the ring holding them in place, up. The connection feels quite secure, even more so than the twist and drop connections that KitchenAid uses.
