All AUTO and no problem with this great light. Even cross sun. Very sharp and lovely bokeh. Just opinion .
@TimBrownTown11 ай бұрын
Yes. I agree 💯. I might throw an ND filter on but other than that, no reason in my opinion to manually set shutter speed unless you notice that auto isn't doing the job in the viewfinder.

Tim, loved the comparisons! Good minds think alike on testing our Pocket in the sun 😂 Great idea to bump up the EV to +1 on the D-Log! Yeah, I think the complete Auto is too exposed. Normal Color Profile and D-Log both have their definite purposes for their use cases. For straight up vlogging during the day, I would stick with Normal Color Profile (auto settings, but throw a ND filter on) But for night vlogging on any shooting at night, I feel like D-Log is the absolute way to go. Or if you're feeling brave, HLG! Really loved the extensive comparisons Tim! Nicely done video!

Thanks Adam! I think using auto definitely allowed it to adjust better for exposure and I agree the ND did help as well. For vlogs, I don't notice the motion blur so I'm done with manually setting shutter speed on the Pocket 3. When I went +1 on D-Log, it seemed to overexpose when I turned though. I think the dynamic range with D-Log M is higher, but the exposure seems to prioritize the entire scene instead of exposing for the face like the Normal color profile. I definitely think there needs to be a separate setting to allow you to turn on and off face exposure priority for either profile. Yet, it seems like there are never definitive answers with settings, only more questions, but that means there's an endless supply of content. Now, I'll have to play around with Normal vs. D-Log M at night, even though I expect my tests will be similar to yours!

@@TimBrownTown Well, very interested to see your results for sure! I appreciate your takes because you have a better eye than me!

I don't know about that, but I definitely have a big issue with Analysis Paralysis when it comes to these things. I may try some Aperture Priority with the ZV-E10. I'm not sure it will make a video, but it may help simplify filming with it if the results are decent.
@TravelingAhn11 ай бұрын
@@TimBrownTown Yeah, I remember seeing someone say to film vlog style videos with Sony ZV-E10 in aperture priority only. That's a good take for your a future video for sure!

Hi there. Great video. Just wondering which setting you ended up opting for in the end ! Thank you
@TimBrownTown7 күн бұрын
Thanks! On bright sunny days in mixed lighting (shadows, etc) I will use normal mode with the variable ND's I found and reviewed on this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKmXc5SthKykmc0si=mTyUCuiPRxgcpn_A I would not recommend a fixed ND filter. The ones in that video are variable and allow you to adjust based on lighting. In lower lighting, I take the ND off and use D-Log M. Those are my default settings.

Looks good man!! The pocket 3 is tempting me more and more every day!!
@TimBrownTown11 ай бұрын
Thanks Evan! Unlike a lot of things, it actually lives up to the hype. For me, it was about being able to easily film in low light places I'd feel uncomfortable bringing my ZV-E10 to where my cell wouldn't cut it. I must admit, the E10 is still more satisfying to film with because it has that true cinematic look, especially at low apertures. I think I'm still waiting on a ZV camera that checks all the boxes. The ZV-E1 checks all the boxes except for price. I wish the A6700 had better IBIS but it's pretty close.

Yes, I'm also considering the Pocket 3. I like the filters but maybe it struggle a bit when dynamic range changes.
@TimBrownTown11 ай бұрын
I think so too. I'm not sure I'll use them for vlogs. Maybe b-roll, time lapse, etc. I think I do still like D-Log M. Technically that's what my eyes are, even if my face is underexposed.

Im considering the first one, full auto with ND
@TimBrownTown6 ай бұрын
Yes. Even with full auto, the ND reduces the shutter speed dramatically.

I use ND16, 32, 64 & 256 just auto mode & normal color.

The Pocket 3 hype is real. I'd only do a standard mirror less if you're doing more than 75% static shots like talking head or tripod.

@@TimBrownTown I’m shooting my talking head and tripod stuff with an a7s3. Which is amazing. But seems like such a fun camera for vlogging and stuff.

Yes, I'd highly recommend it if you need something small and compact for things like travel vlogs are just shooting, run and gun videos. Stick with your A7S3 for your headshots though. 😁

Hi. Can I use these settings for a sunny day: ND filter; Color profile - standard 10-bit; Exposure: auto -0.3EV; ISO 50-100; Sharpness -2; Noise -1. Do I need to adjust the standard 10-bit colors in Adobe Premiere or are they ready to go? Because I'm not very satisfied with the Dlog-m result after applying the DJI LUT. Thanks

That sounds like a great start. Of course there are going to be tweaks based on your personal and artistic preferences.

Nice video and comparisons. I just used my osmo 3 today. I gotta say I’m not impressed at all. I had the osmo 1 and put it on the shelf bc of the quality. I used the freewell ND PL also. The quality just seems like a step up from a phone camera in HDR. I wanted something that I could grab and go on hot days here in Florida instead of my GH6 or S5ii. Maybe I’m just use to the look and quality of those. Idk. Gonna give it another try tomorrow. If it doesn’t perform I’m sending it back. You’re right, for most it will look fine but not for what I do. Thanks for the review!
@TimBrownTown11 ай бұрын
Thanks! I definitely think you should give it a few more days being mindful of your return window. I have the same initial reaction but I realized that I wasn't setting the sharpness to -2 and noise reduction to -1 or two in EACH video mode. There was also a recent firmware update that gave the normal color profiles 10-bit colors so make sure you've updated it by connecting it to the DJI Mimo app. It's NOT going to look as good as your full frame mirror less cams though. Keep me posted on your return, if you don't mind. I'm curious if you were able to figure it out.

Personally I don’t like the artificially exposed face of the normal profile. To me dlog m is normal profile without all the added sharpening/contrast etc and light changes on the face natural as it would in real life. Just don’t shoot with the sun behind you and you are sorted.
@TimBrownTown20 күн бұрын
@@jasonveerkamp4966 I agree, but that's hard to do when you're walking and talking. Not really with the sun, but even when you have a tree or structure between you and the sun and your face winds up in the shade. I think we tend to be pickier when we're looking for something. What proved this to me is that I watched several Peter Santenello videos before realizing he was filming on a GoPro. I literally had to see the reflection in a window. But, maybe that's just me. 🤷
