I bought the Ruger American GenII in .308 and had the same feeding issue. I stripped it down and noticed that the feed ramps was completely covered in cerakote. After a few minutes of polishing the cerakote down to a near mirror finish the feeding issues went away. Not sure why they didn't exclude feed ramp in the cerakote process but it seems like a wide spread issue after watching this review.

I'm going to add, the bolt cycling was an issue at first for me as well. Spend about 30 minutes moving the bolt knob up and down and that made a yuge difference in bolt smoothness. Should you have to do the above? No, but it is fairly simple stuff to fix. I put it in the magpul chassis and it preforms very well and I am happy to use it every time I pull it out. Just my 2 cents for a perspective buyer.

Wow. I am happy to see that this video came out. I was considering saving up and buying one. After Paul Harrell, Nutn is the best KZbinr to ever do a gun review. Some may say that Nutn is too focused on this or that, but I always know that with Nutn, I can expect that axis of value and excellence will always be at that forefront. I am also glad that you and the Mrs. are together and that you all have raised some great kids. I think that in a time when so many guntubers are hitting the gym, ozemipic and girls that are not their wives, its refreshing to have an apple-pie, all-American who has good morals creating videos. I have always respected you style and your content. I think that I have been watching since 2012? maybe even 2011. And if I have listened to your advice, I would have been better prepared, and had more fun outdoors. Thanks for doing what you do. ! great work integrating Hawk Tuah and Trump into this dynamic review of a great looking gun. Its crazy that MrBeast challenges you to be more viral. I wish you did not viral charity giveaways to our low baggers out there. That would make you a clear KZbin philanthropist. I appreciate this but it feels more like short form content. I think that you could cut these down into short form, trending and engaging Shorts. In a time of AI-voiced, lofi, ASMR, trendy influencer nonsense pouring over into the Guntube realm, I think this is so refreshing. Way better than a seasonal fashion clothing haul. I hope YT starts to recommend you again on people's front page, because subscribers are not tuning in like they used to. I blame the algorithm. Keep it up you are a lyrical genius.

I think that part of the problem is that the mag is pushing against the metal arm of the lead sled and that may be causing the cycling issues. Many guns have problems with this and it is a good thing to take into account when shooting from a sled.

Some of my favorite reviews you have done over the years have been "lightweight tactical bolt guns." I find the concept interesting and actually has a place in a lot of areas where more capable semi autos are either legally restricted, or if end user wants a caveman simple lightweight bush gun. Regarding the Ruger American, I find not all models are created equally. For whatever reason I find the smaller intermediate caliber am ranches run and shoot better. Also, Brass Facts has mentioned you favorably and lives in your neck of the woods. Keep on keepin on, Nutn!

I really was considering on a gen 2. I bought my 1st gen predator in 308 around the time that ruger released their 2nd. Really liked the refreshed look. Fluting looks good, love the color of the stock, aics mags is a biig plus, and length of pull adjustment (which i’d leave it the way it is for me). However after seeing how you had issues with magazines, and the very mixed accuracy, i definitely would not buy one either. My 1st gen predator is in 308. On a good day i am averaging 1.25-1.75 moa @ 100yds, on hunting loads. I’ve still yet to test a variety of loads, like match ammo. After seeing your review, i’ll just stick to my 1st gen. The ruger american gen II in 7mm-08 with AICS mags not only looks pretty cool but it's a super cool caliber combination that you usually wouldn't see with a box mag setup. If you reload then the ammo isn't a big issue either. I was an inch away from buying it but didn't.
@newscoulomb370517 сағат бұрын
The bolt throw issues are odd because many people had issues with the Gen 1, which were fixed with (or supposed to be) with the Gen 2. With the new price, though, it's hard to get this instead of a Bergara for just a couple hundred dollars more. I would suggest trying a different caliber Ruger American Gen II. Something like 6 ARC would be fun, but I think 5.56 would be more reasonable (plus the ability to use AR format mags).

Hopefully the 2nd gen worked out the kinks. The first was a dollar store sharp shooter turd. Everything was replaced on mine accept the barrel during five visits to Ruger. They replaced it after 5 returns under warranty. It was the 450 BM Ranch model. Paid $399 new for it. Love my Rugers but won’t buy an American in a centerfire again. I don’t remember all the things that were wrong on it. I tried to erase it from my memory, but I’m sure if you Google on the Internet you’ll find photos and some of my reports. Ruger customer service told me it’s a gun that’s not made for going out and having fun in target shooting with and was only made to shoot four boxes of ammo through it in someone’s lifetime. I shot mine ladder testing two or 250 times the first range session. The magazine kept dropping out, the optic came loose due to improper machining fitment of the factory scope base to the action. Took me two different optics to figure out. It was the scope rail base coming loose. The pins that held the trigger and bolt stop in place hogged out. The trigger wiggled from side to side to side. The bolt stop pin and bolt stop would fall out when it was out of stock. Also the action wouldn’t pull out unfired ammo from the action. The bolt extractor was working perfectly fine. Ruger said it needed a new bolt. They were awesome enough to let me trade it for any gun in their line up. I traded for a gunsite scout in 450BM. I was only charged $110 for the upgrade. The gun came with cracked stock. It was repaired right from factory with clear varnish ilex in the crack. Sent it back the same day. They replaced the stock, sent me a couple of extra mags for it, and sent a gift certificate for the $110 I spent to upgraded to use on their store. Ruger customer service is A1! Their current quality sucks. I own probably a half dozen Rugers or more. I still own a 22 WMR American…love it. The mags fall out all the time and the bolt opens by itself if anything touches it. I love the cheap wranglers as well.

I'm currently shopping around for either a 308 bolt gun or a 357 mag lever action. I've noticed that gun manufacturers are like car companies in that they pretty much only make stuff THEY want you to like, not what YOU want or need. I watched Nutn's review on the Bergara B14 HMR and decided to check one out in person. I was not impressed with the build quality of any of the 3 display models at my local Fleet Farm. The action and barrel are cerakoted but all 3 display guns had rust around the muzzle, thread protector, around the barrel nut and around the ejection port. It looked like the same kind of rust that you see on newer El Cheapo Remington shotguns and rifles that have that cheap black oxide finish. The other thing that put me off, was the fact that 2 of the 3 guns weren't bedded properly. The fore end on these rifles were twisted, causing the barrel to touch the side of the stock. Either these guns were lemons, or Bergara's cutting corners on QC.
@dukenukem69Күн бұрын
Too bad all the 357 mag lever actions are 1000$+. Even rossis are 800+. I should know, I've bought a Henry and marlin the last six months. They just shouldn't be as much as they are, sadly. And the 357 versions are harder to find because everyone wants em.

I always thought that with the gen 1 I had, that you were buying a good barreled action. The ergonomics of the stock, and the horrible trigger (on my example) made the rifle extremely hard to shoot accurately. When I had it locked down on bags, shooting prone with ultimate stability, I could shoot sub minute. Anything other than that, as in sitting, shooting off a barricade, accuracy suffered. This rifle could really benefit from a trigger and possibly a stock. However that really increases the price of the system.

I’m a lefty too, I just shoot right handed guns. Growing up we didn’t have the money to buy lefty guns that only I could shoot, I got hand me downs. When I went in the Marine Corps, they didn’t have lefty rifles either. I’ve been doing since the beginning, so I just adapt my manual of arms around the gun, so I can buy whatever I want. We definitely live in a right handed world.

My big interest with this rifle is the short 16" Ranch version, in .300 Blackout, running AR mags and a suppressor. 110gr for deer hunting, 220gr for fun in the woods without needing ear pro. Plus the rate of ammo consumption and complexity of getting a good suppressed setup is leaps above an AR platform.

Even double the price, it's just a budget, easy bolt gun, main or backup, for those with a better paying job. I wanted a cheapo, backup bolt gun. To play with and keep for doomsday or spontaneous whitetail hunting. Could have bought a $300 one, but then with the the $600 'Go Wild' Ruger American. Still considered it 'budget' but wanted some good upgrades for the price. And the Ruger American Go Wild, that uses ACIS mags, the Magpuls can move all around. Have had troubles there. Seems to not actually be squared away. And these cheap bolt guns... I've never had good luck with them. Trying to group will start stringing, POI moving around a bit.

Thanks for excellent review, as always. You asked about Bolt gun reviews?. Well here in Washington state bolt action rifles is all we're allowed to buy as of a couple of years ago. So keep the reviews coming ! I just purchased the Predator version in .223, which has a 22 inch barrel . Still waiting to clear mandatory 10-day hold so I can actually pick it up. I have the base model Ruger AR-556 and I have found that its fussy feeding rounds with certain brands of magazine but runs flawlessly using (very expensive) Ruger-branded OEM magazines. Oh yeah, we cant buy magazines with a capacity larger than 10 rounds either. You mentioned that the rifle is designed for hunting with cool down periods between 2 or 3 shots, do you think that you shooting rapidly and continuously impacted the accuracy and bolt action that you experienced?

That problematic 10 rounder seems to be setting too high as well as having that lateral movement issue. If a person needed too because of similar problems ,they could likely rasp down the magazines retainer points one thin pass at a time to slightly lower it's presentation.if the lateral movement causes any mechanical issues , a shim could also be added ...a feeler gauge set and locking vernier calipers mean you could find the perfect fit and make sure the intended shim is uniform in thickness by setting the calipers to one size down from the tightest fitting gauge and running the shim through the blades. I mean,it's not necessary for most people who can just buy a couple more magazines every week or two . But if you want to be frugal and make every magazine run that is feasible to fix, it's worthwhile and with minimum effort fitting.

We all prefer essay format so we can check you for grammatical errors since we're all English teachers..😅 Good review as always. I live in Central Florida and oddly compared to their past history, new models by Ruger don't show up in stores quickly after they've been released as they used to. Yet to see a Ruger LC carbine in .45acp or .44 magnum in a store here.

I have the original in a Magpul hunter stock with the 18" barrel.. I've put 5 shots on a single sticker that you use to cover hits on target at 70 yards.. not sure if that's 1 MOA but it's really close if it's not lol think I paid 650 for it already in the Magpul hunter stock a few years ago and it's been extremely accurate for me & it's cerakoted OD green to match the stock with a flash hider.. it's basically the perfect 308 sniper/precision rifle at realistic distances.. the Magpul hunter stock adds some weight but it's worth it

I definitely had better accuracy with the original setup that I have.. mine likes the Hornady 168 grain A-max

But the original does have that same problem chambering rounds smoothly.. sometimes you just gotta be a little rough with it lol

Nutn please look at the Henry supreme. Not sure when your last lever action review was, but looks like a cool offering.

I’d love to see a video on the savage impulse actions. Cabelas has had them as low as 500$

Still wish you did write ups 🙋 I usually watch your vids all the way through, but it's nice to have references to stuff you talked about. If you added chapters to your vids that would serve the same purpose.

Sounds like savage is the way to go.

Stock is ok although I question their color choices, I like the adjustable LOP and Cheek riser. I HATE the twist fluted barrel, it just looks ugly and cheap to me. Mag well system is on point! AR-10 are just too heavy.

Nutn, I always cut off the feed at 10 minutes. Is there something after that? I just spend the extra 20 minutes petting the dogs and the goats. 😆 I have an Axis in .223 that held tight windage at 300 yds, with the factory scope - after a setup at 200 yds. (Throat shots on silhouette target with top of cranium hold.) I was extremely impressed by that factory built rifle. However it got to the counter, I think Savage did well. I bought it for fall turkey, but my state took rifle out of fall turkey hunting in the same year... bummer. I care about TBAR, and T760 also.

All hunting rifles should be reviewed with suppressors. Suppressors are the future.

Little bummed. But overly not surprised.

Interesting 🤔 A bit disappointing with the accuracy department. Not surprised about the finicky magazine problem. From Ruger at that price point I would expect more QC

Anyone know where to find a more than 5 round magazine for a Ruger American in 270 Win.?
