I had a question about what would happen if the Worx Landroid ran over sticks or pine cones, so I made a video to show the results.
And introducing Molly, my Belgian Malinois.

Very good video material. There is nothing in the Landroids manual about destroying pine cones. Thanks to you, people will know what the truth is.

I've had the Landroid wr150 for three seasons now. It does not really chew up sticks or pine cones (and not really leaves). In fact we have lots of pine trees and our pine cones at times get stuck in the cutting blade area and stop the mower. We have to flip it over and extract the pine cone and then resume. We also mower our landroid in our yard 1/2 acre lawn almost 12 hrs a day all summer. Since it doesn't pick up sticks, leaves etc we still run our regular lawn mower with bagger maybe once per month or every three weeks.

Thank you for the informative video, super helpful! How does the Landroid deal with the "deposits" left by Molly?
@HangingOutWithMike
@HangingOutWithMike 3 жыл бұрын
I usually walk the yard before starting it, however, I have definitely missed some "deposits". Depending on the size, the blade can usually go over it with no issues but it is obvious when the wheel runs over a pile. If it does hit a fresh pile and it gets stuck in the wheels, I will run the landroid on wet grass to help clean it. Here is a video I did that shows the landroid running over some dried dog poop: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5bRamiDn512e5o

From what I have seen on the internet, it looks like they are coming out with a smaller landroid that is rated for 1/8 acre. Currently their two models are rated for 1/4 and 1/2 acre.

@@HangingOutWithMike you can see the new models if you use their Europe site. The new blade is a floating blade for a more even height cut, and they also made it sealed claiming it's now basically waterproof instead of just weather resistant.

Thanks for doing these videos on the Landroid. I was curious, but I currently have a mulching lawnmower and with it, I will cut up the leaves that fall from a tree, so I don't have to rake them up. Is it capable of cutting them up like a mulching lawnmower would do? Also, I got a lot of rain where I am at, so some of my yard will be flooded for a couple of days, depending on how much rain we get. Does it know how to avoid those sections of the grass that might be flooded? Next, how do you store this during the winter? Do you have to bring it in? Does it handle/act any differently between warm and cold temperatures? Finally, I noticed you have a fenced in yard. I am guessing you still have to go around with a weed eater to clean up what it can't do. Is this correct? And with your fenced in yard, are you able to do your front yard as well?
@HangingOutWithMike
@HangingOutWithMike 3 жыл бұрын
1) I think the landroid could be used to mulch leaves. However, it will take a lot of passes in my opinion. Unlike a normal mulching mower that creates an updraft and uses special blades to cut the same grass multiple times as you drive over it, this just has little blades that are intended to cut a little bit of grass off the top to make a nice even layer of lawn. So my best guess is it will take multiple passes. I will see if I can find some leaves and do a test run on it and video it. 2) As far as avoided flooded areas, the landroid is not "smart" in that it maps out or can avoid areas. It basically drives from one perimeter wire to the next and then turns around and goes back at a different angle. You can run wire around certain sections creating a boundary that the landroid will not cross, or you can buy a module where you can set up magnetic boundary strips around temporary areas. 3) I put the actual landroid in the garage for the winter (November to March) and charged it up once in January because it is recommended to charge it every two months as per Worx. However, I left the wire and base station outside plugged in and I did not have any issues when I went to put landroid back to work a couple weeks ago. 4) You can take the time to measure 4 inches from hard structures, such as a fence, and the landroid is suppose to cut all the way up to it. I did not do that because I am lazy and did not want to take the time to stay exactly 4 inches around the whole perimeter. My wire is about 1 foot off the fence and yes I do still have to clean up with a weed eater. As far as cutting the back and front, you could run wire under the gate and then set up two separate zone to have it go cut the front on command, in theory. I have not worked with zones so I am not just assuming. I have also seen someone in the landroid facebook group make a little magnetic trap door in the fence like how the magnetic dog doors work so that when the landroid gets close, it will open or I have seen pictures of a swinging door that the landroid could push through both ways. Unfortunately, I have dogs so I do not want to cut a 1 foot by 2 foot wide door in the fence that my dogs might be able to escape from.

Thanks for the upload and your efforts! Very informative! How does it know if it's raining? Does it work solely off the perimeter wire without needing internet availability? Without needing WIFI availability? I live on about 10 acres, mostly wooded and rural, a small farm with no internet, and have been thinking about getting half a dozen or so of these to take the mowing chores off my hands, giving me more time for other things. Sadly after watching this video I realize it just isn't realistic. Too many hazards, limbs falling daily, etc...

Thank you for the question. The landroid has a rain sensor on the top of the landroid. I have read online that it has the potential to think it is raining and will go "home" if the sensor gets wet such as driving under bushes that are wet with dew. I think once set up, it wouldn't need internet to run, however you will not be able to control it from your phone or get the alerts if it get's stuck, runs outside the boundary, flips over, etc. But Worx does sell a "Find My Landroid" module that uses GPS and Cellular networks that would allow you to control and monitor your Landroid. I agree that 10 acres is a bit much. The boundary wires need to be energized and Worx states that the total amount of linear feet for one boundary wire should not exceed 1145 feet. I think running power to all the base stations would be the hard part to keep the Landroids working.

Searching for a good robot mower now for 3weeks.... Have 2 selected now worx or greenworks optimow. ..my lawn is not perfect and had some holes in it..... You got some tips?
@HangingOutWithMike
@HangingOutWithMike 3 жыл бұрын
The only thing I would say about the holes in the yard, is that the landroid might get stuck and then give an error message after spinning it's wheels possibly tearing up the yard in that spot a bit. It is not very fast so it won't be able to use momentum to get over the holes so once it is stuck, it will try and back up and change direction. For example, my dog dog about a three inch by 6 inch trench looking for a mole this winter and I didn't notice it till the landroid got stuck in it.

@@HangingOutWithMike I was wondeirng what would happen in a yard that had a lot of fruit and nut trees? i am thinking of getting a Landroid and wondering how much yard clean up I would need to do around the fruit trees so it can do its job. Your video is actually what I have been wondering as well and I was searching for someone else that had fruit trees.
@HangingOutWithMike
@HangingOutWithMike 3 жыл бұрын
@@albemech Depending on the size of the fruits and nuts will depend on the clean up. Obviously apples will be an issue but plums might not. Once you hit the fruit, it could cause the blades to get sticky and not rotate freely under the Landroid. And the landroid will probably smash the fruit into the ground as it runs over them over them. As far as the nuts, the blades do have some give if it hits something hard. Here is my other video that shows what I am talking about in regards to the blades. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5bRamiDn512e5o
