I remember this episode and yes it was bloody terrifying to me as a child . I was one of the hide behind a pillow types when worzel changed heads. That and the incredible hulk transforming . So this abomination was next level scary to me , haha its still freaky as hell now when he 1st speaks

He walks and moves like a bloody zombie. The way he looks at everyone like he properly stares them down seriously look at that SCOWL. Pair that up with how violent he is and how he effortlessly decapped worzel makes him seem like an actual serial killer I mean really he could be in the reboot of Jeepers Creepers. And also how he is just slapped together, frankenstiened out of random bits of crap makes it even worse.

Totally remember this guy! Actually, he's the only aspect of the show that's stuck with me all these years! Specifically the jump-scare turn and the duel. I was 7 at the time and found him deeply, deeply creepy, and after watching this, I can understand why!

Lol, i used to look forward to Dafthead's appearances. I remember thinking nothing of Worzel dumping that bugger off the railway bridge. Different times back then I guess. My nephew saw Worzel more recently and had nightmares about it. I don't know Kids eh? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It did have dark 'tones' but kids and 'adults 'loved' it. The 'Bottom' Pertwee 'owned the 'character' played it 'brilliantly" along with a fantastic cast 'Barbara Windsor 'yes' corseted 'knockers' for the 'adults' She was great as a 'ships figurehead of a ship..Saucy Nancy. Dafthead is a writers memory of 'Frankenstein" If is 'blood' and not ,'straw' you might have 'credence" People don't travel to a field a cornfield in Hampshire,from the 'four' corners of the world to relive childhood 'trauma" It's a classic,that millions would hate to have not experienced, they 'really 'don't make televion like this anymore. Treasure it ,when you see it on repeats, you 'watching' television that 'is once in a 'lifetime...'Catweazle was another, which makes Geoffrey Bayledon(Mr Crowman and Catweazle) a 'lightning' striking 'twice' Actor.!

I don't think i need to explain why the return of Dafthead happens to be one of the only episodes i can actually remember from the show. I really like the show Worzel Gummidge even if it was way darker then most TV shows. i remember an episode where Worzel made the Crowman so angry because Worzel was wearing the disobedient head and wanted to set a Worzel on fire, GEEZ. But either way i think this show does deserve more credit then it gets and i would love to see a Blu Ray box set of the show and its such a shame knowing the main 3 characters Worzel, Aunt Sally and The Crowman, all the talented beloved actors who played those great characters are no longer with us. R.I.P Jon Pertwee, Una Stubbs and Geoffrey Bayldon.

It would be lovely to see the show on Blu Ray, that's for certain. And it is utterly fantastic with Pertwee being a personal hero of mine. If you haven't checked out Worzel Gummidge Down Under, where Worzel and Aunt Sally go to New Zealand, it's definitely worth a watch as it has several horror-type episodes featuring spooky scarecrow magic!

thanks for the suggestion . I don't think I've watched the Down Under episodes in full. I've only seen a couple of clips but apparently its very creepy. I'm loving these videos of creepy characters I'm going to subscribe for videos like this

I remember watching this when it first aired. Was kinda scary but not half as much as it is looking back. If you can find a clip of it, there was an adaptation of E Nesbit's The Enchanted Castle in which the main characters (a bunch of kids), made a load of dummies out of old clothes to act as audience members for a show they were putting on. Those dummies came to life. Scared the hell out of me.

On a side note, you have a Scarecrow played by a Doctor and the Crow Man played by a man who have been a Doctor (Bayldon turned down the role of the Doctor twice during the original run of 'Doctor Who').

The one we're Wozels strapped standing up to the top of a mini and driven back to the farm. Of course there's a low bridge and before you can say ...duck! Worzels turned to straw. Now I'm going by a four year old memory and I can't find a clip, I'm sure as fuck that Wozrel exploded with arms and legs intact like someone had shoved a stick of TNT up his arse. Scared for fucking life.
