Exactly, I can understand the collector desire to want them but that's what the deluxe one is for, the standard is very much more intended for play value and will no doubt please many kids!

They certainly both have their pros and cons, and I think different merits depending on buyer desire.

While i get the deluxe one has more features so its gonna cost more but i don't think it that much different/better to cost an extra £15

Currently waiting on the deluxe version to be delivered but if the standard one is still available come Halloween week I am sorely tempted to get one to have the red version alongside, was kind of umming and arring as I'd not seen anything about the standard edition, but the deal has been sealed now :P

There have been quite a few posts on social media about scratched deluxe editions and loose swivel joints.

I have seen those too. In terms of scratches the electroplating will always be prone to that kind of thing but I have seen more people saying the standard one scratches more easily. As for the loose swivel joints, again whilst unfortunate I fear that is just an overall potential flaw of the design itself, which is down the BBC more than CO. The BBC make the prop to look good on screen, not to necessarily function as a toy.

@@CaptainJimiPie This is very true, maybe the initial design was where the creative mistakes were made, they were surely aware the sonic would need to be replicated as not just a collectors item but as a robust toy.

Whilst it might seem odd from the perspective of a viewer/fan of the show I highly doubt that "merchandising/replication" is a factor when producing TV props. They are after all designed for heavy use on and off set, which is why many of them have "stunt" props too, and so they are made to a robust standard that wouldn't necessarily translate into a toy. But even if they are designed with a toy version in mind, the toy will always be made of much lighter weight and cheaper materials and if a prop was made with that in mind they probably couldn't make what they wanted. The prop is made with the function to be used as a prop, not as a base design for a toy after all.

@@CaptainJimiPie You are correct, I find it very odd with a prop as specific as a sonic screwdriver, which was always destined for reproduction on the toy market.

What I may do is pick up the standard version for the sole purpose of recreating the Yellow version as it and the pink versions where my faves in the season, the deluxe can stay on my desk as for price I was expecting it to match the 14th however even the cheaper version would cost around 30 from forbidden planet with their delivery costs so I think the 15th price is very fair for what you get with free postage

I think alot of people will probably pick up the standard one to make different coloured ones And price wise I don't think it's unfair, as I said I think it gives people go options depending on what they want
