I agree. A big part of me wanting to play WoT was to drive and fight in the Tiger 1 and 2, but now both are gathering dust in my garage as they are overwhelmed by most other tanks in the game.

I would personally like to know what they consider a "long queueing time". Because in all my years playing I have never experienced a long waiting time in queue unless I tried to play some less common tiers at 3am or when they screwed sth up during helloween event and most ppl couldnt get into battle with the special vehicles... In most of my games I didnt wait more than 10-15s, with preff MM you are in pretty much instantly against T9... But if they consider 5-10s of waiting too long then there is no surprise the MM sucks so much...

In fact, queue is sometimes maybe a couple of seconds slower than before 3-5-7, barely noticable. BUT it is cos of 3-5-7 cos 2 tier spread and predefined template mean more variations and calculations. Has nothing to do with preferential MM. I often sarcastically say "MM has trouble finding 2 tiers higher to send at me". Plus, most 3-5-7 matches end in 3-4min, which is one of the goals: you just played, now fuck off. Solution is very simple: set it to +/-1 tier. Less variations, more players to chose and - fast work for MM. So you get rid of preferential MM without additional tuning tank by tank. Besides, game is so off balance that 1 tier spread is just enough. However, less profitable, so not going to happen. After all, there will be morons willing to actually pay. There always are.

Great critique. I will not call it a "rant" as your righteous indignation was entirely justified. They want you to be punished for spending your money by changing your tank to have cons as well as pros, then throw you into the Tier 10 fire, or pay more money to be thrown into the Tier 10 fire in a tank that may last a couple of minutes longer. Agree it's more fun to play lower tier. With a T6 you will find some T8, but in generale the difference it's not huge. T9 T10 are monsters. And very few T8 are able to stand.

I don't know why WG is so obsessed with queue times. I would happily wait an extra 30s or even a full minute in the queue if it meant that my match distribution was better in non tier X vehicles. This, on top of the premium ammo spam, has caused me to almost abandon the game in favor of WT, which does have its own problems as well.

Brilliant! This sounds exactly like their name change plan! I changed my in-game name and paid 2,500 gold but something went wrong. I contacted them IMMEDIATELY, not days/weeks/months later, and they said the only option I had was to pay ANOTHER 2,500 gold. I didn't give up though... I hung in there and after 10 emails, back and forth, they finally concluded that the only option was for me to pay ANOTHER 2,500! (ya, they didn't change their minds... errors be damned on their part, they want their money, and then more money!) The fun part is, it costs them ZERO to fix your name so one would think in order to keep customer satisfaction at it's highest, they'd just do it right? Well, you'd think so.

It is about time WG got rid of the +/- 2 match making, its been a source of issue right from the get go. I understand why they had it initially to help reduce queue times in a new game, but ffs, its not a new game anymore, it has a large enough player base to be able to support a +/- 1 MM system. Also, guys, don't forget that a couple of patches ago (9.16 I think) there has been a general accuracy nerf. Most likely to make snipes at weak spot harder to do, so you tap the 2 key. And since consumables are reusable, you get a lot more crits than before, so you burn credits. I just had a match where I got hit twice and had maybe 6-7 crits. And that happens in almost every match. Or fully aimed shots don't get anywhere near the target, game after game... Just to burn credits. The same with 3-5-7; designed so you don't get anything no matter what tier you are.

Berserked Guts like what? Camo rating? Traverse and top speed? If they go along with their own concept "empfasizing strong points of the individual tank", all they can do is give it more pen and reduce dpm trough reload time. That is not buffing. Then, lets take a look at t-34-3. They buffed it, and ONLY real downside of that tank is 175mm pen. If u buff that, and leave it with 390 alpha dmg...well, it becomes OP medium tank of OP tanks.... This idea is stupid on all levels. They should just let u pick something else for free, and if you don't want that, refund you in total or in gold by your own choice. This way they make you play tier X tanks u wanted to avoid, or make you pay MORE money/gold, if you want to exchange tank THEY messed up, for something else. A looot of players will uninstall after this.

Bravo. I have played the game (not very well) for 4 or more years. My first Premium was the IS-6. I even bought camo and an inscription for it. I get bottom tier nuked just about every time I take it out...so now it sits. Fooled me WG. Then, I got excited about the Kanonenjadgpanzer. I bought it, camo'd it, and got nuked all the time....so, now it sits. Fooled me again WG. Come to think of it, the only Premium I ever really play anymore is the French Tier V Arty, because it's fun. Guess it's time to go back to Steel Beasts... Your spot on Claus, thanks for that rant. Wish WG would watch this and change the broken tier 8 MM. My (preferential) tier 8 FCM 50t, is pretty useless in tier 9-10 matches- don't think WG will make a good "fix" of that tank. When patch 0.18 first came out (broken tier 8 MM), I wrote WG asking for a refund for the recently purchased FCM 50t- of course that was a waste of time. Will wait and see- and for sure not spend any $ or gold on their b.s. "trade-in". Back to playing tiers

Why don't they just make the MM like this: When you queue in whatever tank you want, lets say a IS-3. The matchmaker has 3 options what to do with you. 1e. option being that you end up bottom tier with some T8 majority T9 and 3x T10's. There will be a 30% chance of this happening. 2e option being that you end up with a all same tier game there will be a 40% chance of that happening. 3e option being that you end up being top tier with majority T7, some T6 and 3x T8's (you) there will be a 30% chance of this happening. This was you can remove the premium match making because every tank you'll choose will have fun matchmaking since you are facing the tanks you where designed to face. This would be soooo much better for everyone. There won't be any community outrage or rants, people will keep enjoy playing your games. You can keep making new premium tanks and introducing new tanks and mission. And will continue to make money. If you go trough with the current matchmaking and remove the pref. matchmaking tanks, everyone will be angry and not spent money on your game because you ruin it for not listening to the community at all! I think ill write customer support this reaction and see what they will say! Probably something like, "Thank you for giving us your opinion." "We'll be sure to pass on your message to the developers" And after that nothing will happen! I really want to do something about this it just ruins our games... And if they push trough there current changes I think we should just boycot them... #BoycotWG?

*WG logic:* 1) 3-5-7 is fine because we didn't lose players. If it was bad, they would leave. And they didn't. On the contrary! 2) Tier 8 is OK. If it wasn't would we be selling tier 8 premiums like hot cakes? After all, you don't give money unless you enjoy it, right? In other words, you wouldn't be financing it directly. 3) In the past, we gave all sorts of shitty offers and - they would buy it! I can't really express anything others haven't already said here or elsewhere Claus. I bought those tanks in large part due to pref MM. To be quite honest, I find WG's announcement insulting/offensive/disingenuous and a poorly constructed effort to cover the a$$ of their poorly designed/implemented matchmaking and their inability to critically think through the issues related to MM and implement reasonable changes. I am coming to the point where I think the only MM WG can design and implement is one where we all drive the same tier tank. WG hasn't, in my opinion, exactly demonstrated their ability to balance anything related to this game - removing Pref MM isn't going to fix the POS MM. Now, thanks to their poorly thought out 'solution', I get the chance to either 1) park my 'newly modified' tank in my garage w/ the other screwed tier VIIIs, or 2) to pay MORE for a different tank (presumably tier VIII) to park in my garage w/ the other screwed tier VIIIs? Why not just tell me the trade in tanks are rare too! Fuming mad.... over a silly game... sheesh...

Shawn P I cannot believe a company like WG, which is making lot of profits, cannot design a better MM. This is not realistic. So I believe the problem is another one. Why they changed the old one? You have to start from here. They changed to put players in a weak position. So now you MUST use premium ammo. Yes you can pay by credit instead of gold but an average player (like me) every game lose silver. In the end someone will turn gold into silver to have enough money to buy the next higher tier tank or equipment. So now that everyone is complaining and (probably) selling of premium tanks is going down, they admit there is a problem. However they are struggling to find a way to make people happy without LOSING any of the advantages the new MM has created for themself. Excuse me if I made some mistakes but english is not my Language.

Well, to be honest, I heard that frase for 4 years now (thats the time I am playing the game) and until this day, no change has really killed the game. They even got voted for best ongoing game (this or last year?) and received the golden joystick for it. People will continue to play. Especially the once not owning any preferential tanks or not knowing, that there are tanks existing with that feature. And even though I thought the same way many times, I am affraid that nothing really will happen this time as well.

WG stated that 3/5/7 is the first option the matchmaker tries to fulfill AND tier 10 matches are prioritized in the matchmaker, then tier 9 matches and so on. And WG professes to not have considered the consequences of this. All the people playing tier 10 tanks and losing credits on it, leads to people playing tier 8 premiums, both with and without pref. MM, and all those tier 8s are hoovered up into 3/5/7 tier 10 matches.

Why only for preferential MM tanks and not for all tier 8's? Back in the day tier 8's were pretty good, but due to powercreep and MM many of the formerly decent tier 8's are now tier 9 and 10 cannonfother. Can't pen, can't outmaneuver/ouspot or out DPM. Some tier 9/10 players found it nice to go there in maps where the lower tiermeds and lights are most likely to go and do some seal clubbing. Imagine going up against a Object 268/4 in an Indienpanzer... it's a hoot!

There are not enough people playing premium matchmaking tanks (or enough prem tier 8 tanks in the game in the first place, with tier 8 being the real issue) for it to be making that big of an effect on the matchmaker queue times. I call bullshit. What people ARE playing are the new arguably OP prem tanks. Also- why does WG have such a hard-on for low low queue times? Its like some obsessive compulsion for them. Also Also- "Moreover, the overhauled vehicle will be able to oppose any Tier X vehicle" Yeah, any tier 8 can "oppose" a tier X. Then they get slaughtered. Minor correction at 1:30, that was never really their policy. While a lot of old premiums could be described as more heavily armored vers of the standard tank with a weaker gun (and some of those tanks didn't get preferential mm), there were plenty of premiums that weren't this way or even created to be that different from their tech tree equivalents (not to mention the few that were op when they were released). For example the Lowe came out at the exact same time as the KV-5 and was basically a premium King Tiger with some minor stat changes (and people have argued which is the better of the two forever).

How can you say MM is broken (especially for tier 8) and people don't like being 2 tiers down when their best selling item is - tier 8 premiums? I read an interesting post at the official forumsr egarding WG's claim that pref MM tanks breaks the current MM, unfortunately I've lost the username and link to it so I can't give credit where credit is due, which I found hit the issue right on the nose.. . "My guess is they don't at the moment. But having about 15 tanks they really could not sell since it might upset the MM when they are being played in large numbers. Some were pulled from the store, others hardly sold anymore but when they change them all to normal matchmaking they can sell them all as much as they like. That is an extra 15 tanks they can sell and buffed will be sold a lot more than they are doing now."

From the articles it sounds like, for every tier, starting at tier 10 and working down, the matchmaker tries to fill 3-5-7 for the tier, then two-tier (7-8?), then same tier. So, for all tier 8s and below, the only time you can be top tier is when there are enough left-overs at your tier, after filling the ranks of the two tiers above you with cannon fodder. This problem is amplified by the fact tier 10's have no tiers above them so they draw a disproportionate number of tier 8's causes a domino effect. This could all be solved by tweaking the matchmaking to not bias towards 3-tier match making for tier 10's. Or even, better, match from tier 1 up, and not from tier ten down.

I agree with you 100%. I have the T26E4 and T-34-3 in tier 8's. I have a big problem with the only 2 options being 1) Spend more money for a different tank if I don't like the changes (Russian Refund) or 2) play a tank that will see tier 10's most of the time. Rather than "fixing" the pref mm tanks, how about fixing mm instead!! I don't believe for a second that they can't do that or that it's "too hard" for the mm to do it right. Seems to me they have programmers on payroll and if they can't fix it, then replace them with programmers who can!! Holy shit! . If anyone wonders why the player base has dropped on the NA server to the point of only having 1 server instead of 2, it's crap like this that is pushing away many long time players.

There is such an easy sollution: Give the KV-5 a tier 7 -1/+2 MM*, while retaining tier 8 priveleges (credits, Frontline, special tier 8 events). This way, it will fight against the vehicles it was intended to fight against, with as worst possibility 3x tier 9/5x tier 8/7x tier 7.

I think that problem is because there is not enough mid tier machines (4,5,6,7) old players free xp 6 tiers, then fast thru 7 and 8, new and average players have problem with economy after tier 6... and ofc, not enough new players. be well CK and ljubi brat

I can confirm there way less players than it used to be about three-four years ago. Older players skips low tiers with freeXP(no wonder, its mess) and you meet more sealclubbers than new players in tiers 1-5. To see really, really new player is rare.

All data presented is from www.vbaddict.net from the last 30 days, with tanks with at least 1,000 battles. Total tanks in battles: about 12,465,220 Total Tier 8 tank appearances: 3,719,187 Total Tier 8 Preferential MM Premium (PMM) tank appearances: 176,185 Total Tier 8 Premium tank appearances: 1,793,644 Total Tier 8 standard tank appearances: 1,749,358 Tier 9 tank appearances: 1,892,439 Tier 10 tank appearances: 1,263,886 All together, Tier 8 Preferential Matchmaking (PMM) tanks make up about 1.4% of the total tanks played. Add in the tier 7 PMM tanks, and you're still just shy of 2% of the total tanks played. In fact, only two PMM tanks at any tier even made the top 100 played tanks, the SuperPershing (#65, 48K battles) and the E25 (#73, 47K battles). The KV-5, Wargaming's apparent problem child, ranks #398 with just over 6K battles played, or about 0.05% of the total. Wargaming's excuse is a complete fabrication. If 1.4% of the tanks played are disrupting the matchmaking, there's a bigger underlying problem with the matchmaking. I suspect that the problem with matchmaking is that 29% of the tanks that enter a battle are tier 8. Only 15% are tier 9, and only 10% are tier 10. The 3/5/7 matchmaking model fits this perfectly. There are twice as many tier 8 tanks played as there are tier 9 and 10 combined. Tiers 6 and 7 are 14% and 13%, respectively. The root problem with matchmaking would appear to be economics, both in-game and real-world. Tier 8 premium tanks are the most profitable, and thus, the most often played. There are more tier 8 tank appearances than any other tier, and more than half of these appearances are in premium tanks. Not coincidentally, there are 102 available tanks at tier 8, 50 at tier 9, and 56 at tier 10. Of these 102 tier 8 tanks, 56 are premium tanks. You read that correctly. There are the same number of tier 8 premium tanks as there are tier 10 tanks, and 6 more than there are tier 9 tanks. It's no wonder that there are so many more games played at tier 8. The horrible economics at tiers 9 and 10 force players to use tier 8 premium tanks to remain profitable overall. Why are there so many tier 8 premiums in-game? Look at all the specials in the premium store. Every week since 1.0 launched, it seems like there's been a different deal on a tier 8 premium. I haven't kept a close enough watch to be sure. The biggest real money makers for WG are tier 8 premiums, because the biggest credit earners for us are tier 8 premiums. Sorry, Wargaming, but your excuse just doesn't hold water.

The reason why 3/5/7 is all about business. Make people spend money to upgrade, use premium rounds more and keep wanting to go up tiers as fast as possible to avoid being bottom tier. If you look at vbaddict stats, the majority of games played are T10, then T9 then T8 and less and less for each tier as you go down, and this is all to avoid being bottom tier. However, playing Tier 10 is expensive, so you need premium time and premium tanks to afford to play them. I actually think the better solution is for the MM to grab all the same tier first. This way all the high tiers are more likely to be fighting against themselves, taking them out of the tank pool, then filling the remaining template options. However, with the 3/5/7 template, the top tiers are often the best and thereby often have a higher win rate because of that. And so grinding to top tier and getting the potentially better win rate, because you face lower tiers more often you are rewarding your players, who have spent money to get there.
