I came up with a theory that the major reason why King Beast banned magic from Auradon was because it was used against him by the Enchantress, cursing him to turn into a hideous monster years before. To ensure that it will never happen again, the Magic Ban was passed regardless of how it will affect other beings who rely on magic for their daily lives. The whole schtick of "giving non-magical humans a chance to rely on their talents" was just a cover up.

Plus, this is just a theory, but I think the isle is more like a weapon for political power. Think about it, EVERY SINGLE POWERFUL VILLIAN was in Beast and Belle's domain, those two royals could massacre anyone anytime if they didn't do what they're told. Even more that magic is no longer in use and the only one with power is under their command. These two did what the villians couldn't, take over the world. Also, if you think about it, why would the main children of the heroes (most of them sons and daughters of kings and queens) stay just in one school, they could be there to keep their parents on their feet and try nothing, preventing the possible death or exile of their own children.

This is how I think of it: So these movies are based on books. The books are made by a Disney fan that sets it in an slightly alternate reality based on the cannon animated films. This means that even though the time periods in all the animated films are different, the author can take an magical character (like the Fairy Mother) who has a longer life span to call upon and bring everyone back in them all together in the island and give a modern twist with technology/real-life. It's not hardcore cannon, like Once Upon Time. It's cannon enough for the long-time Disney fans to have their connections while bringing something new. I hope that helps(:

I've long suspected that there's another reason for reviving the villains: Auradon might not practice capital punishment! Belle's dislike for Gaston, for example, might overlap with a general distaste for violence and killing: she didn't want to see him as her husband, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she wanted to seem him DEAD, either. She may have revived him, in part, to appease her own conscience. And who knows how wide-spread this sentiment is in her kingdom, as few of Disney's heroes (esp. the princesses) were prone to violence?

Magic was used to revive the deceased villains. I assume this is in to keep track of all of the villains and not have other villains revive them. My assumption as to why Auradon uses technology instead of magic is to morally free themselves of the magical bounds. The reasoning behind this is that all of the heroes who were involved with magic had been negatively impacted and the practice of magic could force them to remember what happened, just like seeing Mal reminded Queen Leah of Maleficent. The heroes involved could have been diagnosed with PTSD because of the magical disasters and the similarities between the old and new magic might trigger the PTSD. To answer the question of the day, I would rather have magic, I could use magic to create technology.

Actually, Considering Hades is now a Descendants character as well, it is entirely likely that he brought them back to life. Want some evidence? In the crossover between Aladdin and Hercules, he was able to bring Jafar back to life for a team up against both their foes, plus with Hades being the god of death, it is entirely possible that he swam out of the river of death, and struck many deals with all the villains to bring them all back to life.

the second part u have a good point but, I think the main reason there is no magic in Auradon is because of the dark side to magic i mean the entire goal of coming to Auradon and stealing the wand in the first place was to do exactly that use magic for dark purposes and if the citizens of Auradon were allowed to practice magic it wouldn't be long before another Maleficent or Ursala or Jafar came into power using magic. I would like to believe that Maleficent was stabbed by the Sword of Truth, but when she fell into her own flame, it healed her, for Maleficent couldn't die by her own magic. She brought back some of the most powerful, most notable villains of all time. I really wished in D3 that banning magic wound up backfiring bad. Like in my idea before the movie came out, the barrier shattered and the villains who had magic took down Auradon because magic was banned and the kids of auradon couldn't use magic well. Did he not become the prince at the end of his film? 2. Where are the beasts servants and maids from the film? Are they in human or magical furniture form? 3. Was Gaston one of those revived villains? He never had magic. If he was revived I would be surprised as I am sure Belle would disapprove. 4. Where are Lady Tremaine and the Stepsisters, Cruella, Horace, and Jasper? on Isle of the Lost or Auradon? 5. Are Anita and Roger, Mulan, Quasimodo, The Genie (who is nonexistent without magic), Hercules, Elliott the Dragon, and the characters from the mediocre mid-70’s and 80’s animated films such as The Rescuers, Aristocats, Rescuers Down Under, and The Black Caudron relevant to the series?

On Auradon, magic is replaced with technology. On the Isle of the Lost, magic is taken away _without_ being replaced by technology. As Mal says in the intro to Descendants 1 "No magic - No wifi - No way out." My default understanding that by "no wifi" she meant also "no internet". However - perhaps she did _not_ mean "no internet", _just_ "no wifi"---- because if they don't have Internet on the Isle of the Lost ---- how does Fairy Godmother arrange for the teleconference between the VKs and their parents on Parents Visitation Day.

It can be argued that this move of lessening the use of magic can control who is revived and lessen the likelihood of villains returning to reap their revenge. Technology's used because it would be much harder for villains used to magic to manipulate it.

In the book Isle of the Lost Mal said her mother told her it was in a moment of weakness that she met her father so sometime in that moment she thought was weakness she ended up having a child. I think in the movie it is mentioned as well but I am not one hundred percent sure about that.

To be honest, after watching all the "Descendants" movies, I think the first one is still the best (and even the only decent one) out of the three. It has a deeper storyline and well-presented scene shots. However, if I look at other Disney Channel original movies with fantasy and magic themes like "Twitches", "Twitches Too", "Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior", "Wizards of Waverly Place: the Movie" and "Avalon High", "Descendants" seems absolutely cringe. It also ruins the classic animated movies from which the characters (heroes and villains) are based on. The classic animated movies are set in old centuries when there was no electricity nor electronics. Moreover, it takes centuries to develop technologies from that era to today. Plus, the characters are quite ruined and their ages aren't accurate. More things that make me hate "Descendants" even more: Ever since I watched "Descendants", I've been wondering how those villains like Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Ursula (who died at the end of their original animated movies) could be alive in this movie. I tried to find the answer on the internet. I found an article saying that King Beast told the Fairy Godmother NOT ONLY to imprison the remaining villains in the Isle of the Lost, but also revive those who were already dead and put them in the isle so they could suffer too. He did so because he thought death is a too easy punishment for their evil deeds. Looking at this part, I think King Beast is stupid, unwise, and kinda psychopathic. My reasons: 1) As a king, he should've realized that bringing back villains (or bad guys) tends to cause more troubles. 2) King Beast was once a spoiled brat and he got a second chance to change and become a better person, as a human who has repented, he should also give second chances to some of those villains. I believe someone's behavior was influenced by his/her environment and the past too, just like King Beast became arrogant and rude because he was spoiled too much. PLUS: I hate how this film series presents the characters' ages inappropriately. The Fairy Godmother is damn younger than the 1950 version who is a motherly grey-haired old woman. In this movie, the Fairy Godmother looks far too young, which leads to an assumption that she might have used magic to regain her youth. If that's true , it means she's SELFISH because she never lets Jane do the same thing. Plus, I also hate her attitude. Other than that, I think Descendants' Fairy Godmother (Jane's mom) is supposed to the daughter of Cinderella's Fairy Godmother age wise. That'd make Jane the granddaughter of Ella's FG.

black hammer probably a woman who found jafar's lamp, used her last wish to make jafar human again out of love and in return jafar would spend his life with her.... The 2 had a son, but jafar betrayed the woman he stole his son and ran only to be found and placed in the isle of the lost. *Or* jafar heard of the villian purge and out of love, jafar ran with his son to ensure the woman would not be found and banished as well.

I think the reason King Arthur rejected the notion of replacing magic with technology is because of Merlin, his friend and teacher. If it's the same Arthur from Sword in the Stone, then Arthur would assume magic is just a great a teacher as technology (as Merlin taught him science thru magic). Merlin himself(in the movie) is a very scientific person despite being a wizard. Maybe by getting rid of magic would dishonor Merlin's memory.

You mentioned how the villains suffered a fate worse than death when their magic, their power was taken away from them. Maybe they decided to ban magic not only because it’s “the easy way out” but also because they were afraid someone would get power hungry while trying to learn magic. It would be much easier to take over the world with magic than with technology. Magic takes just a spell and technology requires knowledge, resources, money, etc, so if anyone tried to use technology for evil it would be easier to see coming and easier to stop.

One more thing: Does the magic ban have an exception in case Auradon goes to war? They have non-magical military, it seems, but if they can fight using magic it sure would help. Would Fairy Godmother, Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, and Genie use their powers? What if Mal needs to turn into a dragon again? Imagine her flying over a battalion with an archer on her back so she's shooting fire while the archer is shooting arrows and oh my gosh that's freaking awesome.
