That mall brings back so many memories for me. I went to school there in the 90s and Oakdale Mall was the place to go. Everyone went there. It was sad to see it go. I went up to visit this past Summer, and the Commons is just the same. It's missing that old feelings that I had.

I remember hanging out in the mall in the early 80's going to movies and spending hours in Aladdin's Castle. It was always packed shoulder to shoulder with people. It's a little depressing seeing the state of the mall now.

I stopped by the mall today, and I just noticed that FYE was closing down and was liquidating. Saw that briefly in the video around 5:15, so it was interesting that wasn't mentioned. I personally was surprised to see how long FYE was operating in the Oakdale Mall, especially after businesses reopened after the pandemic. I grabbed a few small items there at some good prices since a lot of their products were overpriced when compared to retailers like Walmart and Amazon. It seemed it was hard for FYE to adapt to the times.

I agree 100% that a BJ's indoor connection would help Oakdale Commons. But I don't think we'll ever see it. BJ's wants to control the entry/exit point and keep it to one set of doors. If you check out the Shops at Ithaca (formerly Pyramid Mall), which isn't doing nearly as well as Oakdale, you'll see Best Buy closed off the indoor connection to the mall and is now only accessible from the outside parking lot near Route 13. Not good.

You are correct. The new 5 Below location is near Dick's House of Sport. Oakdale Commons could use a few more restaurants or counter service eateries. I'd love to see a local restaurant take over an empty space near the center of the mall.

@@MallMemories I agree more restaurants would be a good thing… The mall should’ve had a food court from the jump. Worst mistake the developers of the original mall ever made.

@@fgpalm You know, if they moved the leggings store to the center of the mall, they could put another eatery in its place. Wouldn't exactly be a food court, but they could have a food area. Maybe add a few tables nearby?
