"Mastering" the martial arts disciplines for Bruce Wayne is essentially him showing that he has learned it better than the people teaching him. He learns the martial art, trains in it for a while, then challenges the masters who taught him. If he defeats them all, he is a master.
@abdullahyusof4739

Chad Small That's actually not a legitimate qualification for mastery of a martial art. Any white belt or even a random person can defeat a black belt under the right circumstances, but does that immediately mean the person gets a promotion or becomes a master? No, definitely not. Every martial art has underlying principles that make it more than just fighting styles or self defense combat systems. Some of which actually formed the martial art to begin with. Spiritual aspects, mental training, historical significance etc.. Furthermore, given how much bigger and stronger(being at peak human physical condition) Bruce is, the martial arts masters may not have had such an easy time taking him down either.
@Evravon
@Evravon 7 жыл бұрын
He didn't just walk in and challenge the master to a fight. He trained under them and once they felt he had mastered everything they had to teach, he was granted the ability to challenge them. I believe he was only allowed to use the martial art they taught him as well, not all the others he knew.

My take on the martial art angle is that he doesn't need to be a "master" of 127 arts, but just needs to be good at a few, it doesn't matter how many styles you learn, there are only 6 ways to hit someone with your fist and a punch is just a punch... so he could become very good at some basic techniques like punch, palm strike, roundhouse kick, side kick, front kick and various elbow strikes and just hone spatial awareness skill to be able to react effectively against several opponents and yes, he can absolutely be a great fighter in less than 10 years, the writers went way too far with the "he knows everything about martial arts" idea I'll use this quote: "I laugh at the man who practices 1000 strikes once, and I fear the man who practices a single punch 1000 times"

In the Dark Knight Rises,, I like how they show Bruce at the doctor's office. The doctor told him his knees were F*cked as in Zero cartilage left. It showed that within 8 to 10 years after he First took on the Batman persona that he wasn't as solid as his cartoon counterparts. He had to use robotic or cybernetic legs to be Batman again. It shows he was only only human. But then Bane snapped Bruce's spine and he had to build himself back up to escape the pit. No doubt that he was in the worst pain of his life but he still had enough will power to do it. So my opinion is that Batman is not super, he's just damned stubborn to quit no matter how much torture his body goes through, at least in the Dark Knight Rises.....

I'd argue Guts is a Half-Demon, which is a larger reason why he both has, sharper-looking ears and borderline super-human strength. They show where he was born, from a 'Witch' who was hung for doing something believed to be Heretic or, for being at a heretic gathering - and he was born where he should've died. Common theory is that likely a demon raped his mother and similar to Femto raping Casca and it giving birth to Guts' mysterious child - Guts himself is born from interbreeding between a demon and human. Guts likely isn't fully human.

It's been hinted at Neco, that he got those features from after getting that mark on his neck. That it's slowly corrupting his physique, and making him more demon than man. As for his ability to wield that sword... Because anime. There's really no reason they give, other than that he's always been wielding swords way too big for him from an early age. We may never really know for sure.

I just want to say that I agree that 127 martial arts is absolutely ludicrous, however, and this is a big however that I've been looking into for a while, we have to consider a few factors. I have been wondering for a while if there was a way to learn multiple arts at once, and the idea that I came to is a martial arts common core. while martial arts are essentially different, there are enough commonalities between them, just from a lack of different options, which Bruce Lee has stated in an interview. this common core would be broken down into the basics; footwork, grappling, throwing, striking, and would focus on teaching moves common to at least five or more styles, and branching variants, using only the most useful at this point. once these basics, which I could controversially assume to be about eighty percent of any given style, minus plenty of outliers, are learned, it would be a relatively simple thing to focus individually on each one until you've mastered it, which brings me to my next point, mastery. If we use this broad term the way martial arts does, then sure, he'd never be a master of more than a few styles, but if we dial mastery down to mean technical perfection and an advanced understanding of the inner workings, allowing the person to manipulate their knowledge effectively, which is what mastery is outside of art, then it's incredibly achievable to master multiple arts. my next point. modern martial arts training tends to be very watered down. I'm sure your friends are excellent at their craft, but did they put their lives on hold for martial arts? did they dedicate ten twelve hours a day to practicing their kata, sparring, and other study? if so, then remarkable, but I doubt it, they probably had school, work, leisure, hobbies, that filled their time as well. Bruce wouldn't have those distractions, meaning that the average practitioner that trains their skills an hour or two a day can't hold a candle to ten or twelve, even barring any other form of body training for a period of ten years or so. next point, Bruce. he has something called eidetic memory, which means he has perfect, or near perfect recall, and this would astronomically decrease necessary training time, he could learn in minutes what takes hours for the average practitioner to learn. this doesn't negate the need for body conditioning and repetition, or the harder to learn skill of when to use a move, but it's like automatically knowing the contents of a math book and just having to complete the activities. there's still difficulties and a learning curve, but you save an enormous amount of time nonetheless. I have nothing more to say
@tylerstaley2667
@tylerstaley2667 7 жыл бұрын
And one more thing I forgot to mention, his mastery of 127 skills is as of the age 44 roughly 36 years of dedicated training, which would be a give stretch, but not so far as say, thirty martial arts with my common core principles as an establishing point

well yeah but remember that learning 50 or 40 martial arts is still a waste of time I have spent every free moment of my time from 4am to midnight since I was 12 (now I'm 15) I consequently made my own fighting system based on martial arts I learnd from my father (muay boran, krav maga, wing chun and ju jutsu) and now I can take on a group of attackers without breaking my own bones in the process. Learning to much is a waste of potential for a martial artist I spent my whole child hood on full body work outs, pain conditioning drills (extremely painful) and perfecting my martial arts (with which I will never be done) more importantly I never won a fight with my father (he was training since he was even younger in traditional and "new" martial arts) learning to many martial arts even out of absolute indestructible love for them won't get you any where as far as your combat effectiveness is concerned even with perfect muscle memory like Batman's it is completely futile the best you can do is be you choose moves your body fells good with if you throw upon yourself a certain style or martial art you will be like a mechanical man what matters and what is beautiful about martial arts is not who wins or looses it is about emotional content about expressing yourself to the opponent about the bond of mutual understanding between fighter's not like in MMA where they fight with blank Intentions and over meaningless titles and money because none of them truly or even partially won in the end. (sorry for bad grammar and lots of love from Poland) :)

+Kri polskiPSYCHO there is a difference between learning martial arts and learning to fight, martial arts involves applied philosophy, way of thinking, tradition, and culture that simple fighting doesn't convey. fighting is survivalism. I grew up fighting, and with no teacher but my opponents, sometimes several of them, you could say I learned from the school of hard knocks how to hold my own. I know enough to not let my pride get in the way, and enough to tell you that if you don't have a sparring partner, your self made martial art is useless, I am sure you are physically adept, smart, have practiced your moves consistently, and have a high tolerance of pain, but do not make the mistake of letting your pride get in the way.

+JL30STM Meier what makes focus impossible in your opinion?
@tylerstaley2667
@tylerstaley2667 7 жыл бұрын
+JL30STM Meier yes, but here's my point for a common core, you aren't dividing your focus, you are simplifying the curriculum into relatively easy chunks. so that it's not about learning two separate martial arts, but learning what the two have in common, and treating the differences as optional advanced techniques. If it is impossible to maintain focus for that, then mastery of any Chinese martial art, or something like bjj, which are all more form/technique based, is beyond anyone. my point is to stop treating them like individual and unrelated talents, like speed reading to lock picking, and more like calligraphy

in fact doing what batman did would make you a piss poor fighter. boxers focus on simplicity because the brain can process the simple techniques faster and because of this there is no counter lag. if you learnt 127 martial arts you would have major lag. once you noticed an attack it would take far to long to sift through all the accumilated martial arts data to be effective

Due to the amount of carryover between arts, he could probably become proficient in dozens of different martial arts. But the term "master" means different things to different people. He truly only needs to master 4-5 different arts to achieve proficiency in over 100 arts.
@Pseudobadger
@Pseudobadger 7 жыл бұрын
I would be inclined to say that "dozens," plural, is too much. I might say, "several." I think when writers write this sort of thing, they are focused on the wrong "feats," as some comic analysts say. To be proficient in a martial system would tend to mean achieving black belt level. I do not know anyone who holds a black belt in dozens of martial arts. Please understand, I actually think you are right. If he took a mixed martial art approach choosing an approach that incorporated a grouping of styles that worked best for his body type and natural talent, then he could become one of the greatest fighters in the world. This whole mastering of over one hundred martial arts is poor, poor, poor writing by people who apparently know little to nothing about martial arts. Again, I actually think your observation is right in the larger sense. I am just commenting from my own perspective. Although I would register some disagreement with your final sentence, I think your overall point is a good one.

Sooo true, the writers of Batman know little about what MASTERY is. Being proficient means little compared to masters, They just needed to give batman a boost so he can Remain Relevant to all the super humans. Like seriously? Your brain can only get you so far in the face of RAW POWER, yet in Batman brains equals strength and Strength Equals Stupid.
@Pseudobadger
@Pseudobadger 7 жыл бұрын
"Being proficient means little compared to masters." -- That is a very good observation, sir. One that a proficient artist learns every time he faces a master. Every time I think I am, to any degree, badass, one of my instructors steps in and teaches me one of the most valuable lessons of all, humility. I think you are right about Bats, too. Some writers try to power him up because he operates in a reality where super powers are apparently as common as STD's.

Proficiency in multiple martial arts tramples mastery, or pursuit of mastery in one martial art almost every time. Now days you see higher dan guys like 3 to 7 trying to prove a point and take on a mma fighter usually amateur or low tier pro and get destroyed. So for what Batman does I'd take high efficiency in several or more martial arts over training in one for a lifetime and getting Beat by a guy that's been training 2 or 3 years.

Batman is juiced, and several comics have said it. Years ago, it was "nutrition, and vitamin regiment" but since rhe mid 90's Batman has been allowed to get a bit darker, akin to the pre CCA Batman. in several issues, we are informed that Wayne Tech had a pharmaceutical branch. That branch focuses on basically "safe steroids". Batman and Robin (Dick Grayson) take it. Its roids without most of the serious side effects, and its completely ok because its legal, and it helps them do the mission. however, for long term side effects, just look to Batman Beyond. Why would the healthiest man in the world suffer from a heart attack in his early 50's? Hell, he even got dunked at least oncenin the lazarus pit, and that can bring people back from the dead. That dip probably took 10 years off of his joint wear, and fixed that nagging rotator cuff injury (and the spinal break...) but even after that, he has a heart attack at 50? Safe steroids still arent a long term thing I guess.

I read on a martial arts forum once. There's only so many ways you can punch or kick someone. After learning 3 or 4 martial arts it's no longer about learning techniques. It's about the history and culture of the different styles. I have no idea, but I liked this theory because Bruce could decern what kind of organized crime he was dealing with just by the styles. Triad and Yakuza would be easy. But all the Eastern European countries have syndicates too.

Fuck that took longer than I expected So let's start with some basis. The force needed to give a kilo of mass an acceleration of 1m/s^2, also known as a Newton. In the anime, the Testing Gate used to enter the Zoldyck's family's estate has seven doors, each of those have two panels. The two panels for the first door weight 1 ton (907,185kg) each, for a total of 2 tons. The second door has two panels that weight twice as much as the ones before, so 2tons each, for a grand total of eight tons, and so on. In the anime, Gon opened the first gate (2tons), so did Kurapika, but Leorio managed to open the second gate (8 tons). Killua is the prodigy that was able to open the third gate (16tons) and later in the series the fifth gate (64 tons) Now, we have to consider that pushing something is different than lifting it. For the sake of simplicity I'll consider the first gate a single 2ton object rather than two 1ton ones. The angle of push is also important, but in this case i'll consider it perpendicular to the terrain, so 0° (so not important) Let's get physical. Force required to move an object on an orizontal plane = (gravity) ( mass of solid ) ( μ ) Plugging our data in, we have this for the first gate: F = (9,81m/s^2) (1814.36948kg) = 17798,9645988N Now that's just for the first gate, succesfully cleared by Kurapika and Gon. Yeah, the heaven's arena "push to win" is not that big of an exageration afterall Leorio cleared the second door. I'll avoid re-writing the same formula, it's just F = ma So the force needed was 35597.9394N Killua cleared the third door, 16tons F = 142392,15N then the fifth door, later in the anime/manga F = 569566,638N fuck me i'm rusty in physics. If there are any mistakes, feel free to correct me But hey I have absolutely no idea if the HxH training would work or if it's even possible to move 16tons (Let's.. let's not consider the fact that Killua moved 64 tons) so I'll leave that up to +JaxBlade to tell. Hopefully he reads this! EDIT: wow hxh wiki lied to me. hunterxhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Testing_Gate it's written here that each door weighs twice as much as the one before it, but the first is two tons and the second is eight, wat Whatever, the math is still correct apart from the first part lol

it doesn't take 30 years to master a martial arts. actual scientific studies have been done, if a person trains 2 to 3 hours a day they can learn and master a martial arts in about 3 to 4 years. and i am not talking about McDojo's where you have to train for so long before they ever let you recieve a black belt. with that being said there are humans have become expert fighters in martial arts in no time. for example full contact karate champion joe lewis became a black belt in 7 months and with 22 months of actual training he became a full contact champion. with this being said its entirely possible for someone to learn and master a martial arts in a year or so. but it would still take atleast 145 years for batman to learn 127 systems

Well, Batman's genius intellect could explain how he learns different techniques so fast... He's physical abilities don't have to be from steroids. there's supplements and natural solutions... I'd say his suit helps with some of the physical feats... most of the physical feats. only thing that doesn't match up well is his time and schedule. So, I can see how it's unrealistic. But, he is very moody and grumpy all of the time. So, I guess it might be possible. in a very extreme way. unless maybe batman was secretly a meta human...

Also, since this is comics, I'd say he could be on "mystical enhancements". Like, he doesn't need the same amount of sleep and whatever as a regular person, because he can meditate fatigue and pain away. That's how I'd explain it.

I don't think batman perfectly mastered hundreds of martial arts for the reasons said in the video, but I think he might have just mastered exactly what he needed in each of these arts ( like specific punches or kicks ) to be effective in combat. He did the same thing with his academic knowledges, he just took the classes he needed in the world's best colleges and universities, learned what he needed and then moved on without going through the entire years of studies. And with his huge fortune, learning abilities and unbreakable will that seems quite possible to me.

127 martial arts sounds too much but I figure the way he "mastered" them is that he mostly just learnt to handle himself against them with his own unique style rather than practising all the styles to perfection himself. I wouldn't say he is without superpowers though. His level of stubbornness, focus, ability to learn, analyse and planning could be considered to be superhuman level beyond that of any other superhero. Maybe he's able to do some of his physical training in his sleep the same way other people sleepwalk. He could speed up the recovery time of his CNS through advanced meditation perhaps.

The way i see it is he trained hardcore for many many years before even becoming batman, he trained with multiple martial artists, phsyical conditioning and skill. this accompanied with great nutrition, supplementation and sleep. then when he did become batman (much later on) the majority of his training was done while fighting crime, probably mixed with maintenance training in his free time. i also think depending on the event, not every night he may need to patrol the city, only if he has leads of reasons to. he sleeps 7-8 hours maybe less (some people survive fine on 6) and did bruce wayne shit during the day. i have no doubt he would take steroids during this time, or at least synthesised a far better formula thats more effective, and has far less side effects. obviously he is a fictional character, but if there were any way to become him, or a close representation, i think that would be the way, not to mention he has an incredibly strong will for what he does. probably the most motivated superhero there is.

I feel he would definetly be on something, they sell batman as an outstanding human, not a super natty human haha. and he has dealth with super soldier like syrums before, but he wanted to avoid it at all costs, but, i think its fair to assume he with his extensive knowledge in science, would make something similar to steroids that allows him to recover from any stress over night, and increases his ability to build muscle and train for so long.

Task Master can totally take on Batman, because quite frankly Batman never reveals himself to be an out of the box thinker. Deadpool can take on Task Master because of this, Deadpool would be using Wing Chung or something, he knows many styles and is an expert marksman, then suddenly Deadpool would stumble into a fit of whackiness where none of his attacks Telegraphed or would make sense, a sword here, gun here then a fist here then a head butt or something, but you wouldn't be able to see it coming by his eye movements or his body movements. Also Deadpool is superhuman now on top of that.

TallicaMan1986 when you are called the worlds greatest detective you are probably gonna have to be an out of the box thinker hell he actually does this in Arkham Asylum by spraying explosive gel on his gauntlet and punching a super drugged up joker, he also does an out of the box thinking in Arkham Origins when he is fighting a less drugged up powered, but is still dangerous, Bane and wins by fake stopping his heart to with an electric shock to make sure a bomb doesn’t go off and resetting his heart to get it pumping in rhythm again with electric shocks

My theory goes down like this. At most no he did not MASTER those martial arts but heres the thing, With his certain degree of training in each and every one of those martial arts he took what he learned and combined each in every one of them into his own style of fighting, So at most He's in the MMA Category. Now combine that with his peak human conditioning and he's The BATMAN!

batman doesn't really need to master 127 marshal arts. if you think about it, since MMA got big in the last 20 years or so, many marshal arts are becoming more popular and many are going away. like tae kwon do, and kung fu are just not that effective for example. most fighters who want to actually win fights train in BJJ for grapling, muay thai, and american boxing for striking. some people have backgrounds in something like wrestling too, but i think that is becoming obsolete because of BJJ. so basically i'll bet you could just focus on those 3 and be okay. or maybe someone who fights for a living would know a few others that are also effective, but 127 is ridiculous. also, you could look at what navy seals and US marines train in. Marines learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, Savate, Jujutsu, Judo, Sambo, Krav Maga, Isshin Ryu, Karate, Aikido, Muay Thai, Eskrima, Hapkido, Taekwondo, Kung Fu, and Kickboxing. navy seals learn Jujitsu, Ninjitsu, Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Sylat Knife Techniques, Western Boxing but... I think that's too many. It's probably better to get really good at less things than to be pretty good at a lot of things. I'm pretty sure competitive fighters who fight for millions and millions of dollars, as well as the US military special forces who have an unlimited budget behind them, know what they're doing. These two groups are going to have the most knowledge and the best skills in the world.

I agree, truth be told with the amount of crossover as mentioned in the video and with what your really need, that is just bs in my opinion. Nobody needs that much, because frankly there are only so many variations on a technique that are useful. For instance there are only a few different ways that you can bend a wrist to lock it. Also I've known marines and from what they showed me of what they know, mostly their bits and pieces of the martial art ( though don't quote me on that as I can't speak verbatim). Really you only need at batmans level, 8 martial arts maybe 12 if you really wanted to put it all in., but honestly that is likely too much. The only thing that I can really say that it sounds like the writers for batman needed a way to make him more badass, but honestly all you need is a few at best. Now as for everything else he learned I think that it becomes even more bullshit as he apparently according to the fans and cannon he has the following skills and abilities: indomitable will, intimidation, expert inquisitor, peak human conditioning( including reflexes strength, speed , endurance, agility), expert acrobat, master of stealth, expert marksman, holding 12 college advanced degrees ( mind you by the age of 21), escapologist, pilot, expert tracker, learning multiple languages, master of disguise, and finally expert mechanic and driver. Even if you work from the age of 8 with a genius iq, eidetic memory and endless resources, you can't get all of that done by the time before your thirty if you plan to do all those martial arts on top of that. I've known people with genuis level iqs that are just like you and me, but they still had problems learning like you and me their not perfect in picking everything in the world up. As well I've known people with perfect memory and that doesn't equate to knowing. Basically with both of those together, their not going to be like batman. Really when you get down to it, we all know that this is fictional and all we can do is have fun with this character.

Yeah, I agree with +JL30STM there, I've done a few different types of kung fu and can assure you that there's a lot of useful tricks in there. I'd say it has the best defensive stance but also allows agile movement at any time and if you combine it with something like boxing for the power you need to knock someone out, you are a power house. Doesn't hurt that I naturally have a body that's great for physical activity...now if only I wasn't so lazy, I could actually do something with such a gift.

I agree with the fact that is really hard to do that routine but about the martial arts I'm thinking that we are talking about a character that is a real genius, the best detective of the DC world, a man who run a company that works globally and with a lot of resources, maybe for a genius its raiser than for just average people, or even talented people. Even thought, it's just my opinion. I'm not really into this world of training and martial arts beyond what I see in comics or TV.

What they should have written is that batman mastered the most effective moves, like punching from boxing, kicking from Muay thai and karate, throws from judo, takedowns from wrestling, grappling from BJJ, and tackling from football. If he mastered the basics, he would be a very good fighter, and those are things that are realistically possible in the real world. It's what mma fighters do now days.

You should do a train like the toons for Vegeta or Goku like the gravity room, situps, and how they eat like monsters and sleep like bears I think it can be a funny video and it will help a lot of people out.
