I grew up in the UK in the 60’s/70’s and “Standard” were the main brand of fireworks for sale at that time. On the TV they were advertised with the Jingle “Light up the sky with Standard fireworks”.
@gaz94115 ай бұрын
I grew up in the 90s and the Standard Fireworks factory was about a mile or two from my house (now Black Cat) so I'll always remember how jarring it was the first time I saw that episode and David jumped on what a ridiculous name it was. It was so funny when you've been so used to the name all your life that you never thought twice about it! Seeing as David didn't seem to have heard of them I guess they were more of a regional thing? More Northern if that applies to you? Either that or he was just pretending he'd never heard of them for a laugh XD
@cheshirecat8885 ай бұрын
@gaz9411 I'm from London and I knew exactly what Bob Mortimer was talking about. I remember the logo on the fireworks very clearly. Maybe the other guys never paid attention lol

I was really shocked, all 7 of the panel seemed surprised at the name “Standard fireworks”, David Mitchell is 49, Lee Mack is 55 and Rob Brydon is 59 and from all over the UK, I grew up in Surrey, Essex and West Sussex during the 60’s and 70’s then I lived in most regions of the UK during the 80’s and Standard were THE name in fireworks all over the UK. I assume the script writers for this episode made a bit of a mess of it.
@gaz94115 ай бұрын
