Despite the word "worm" in it's name, it's actually a shell-less saltwater clam and frankly i just found this out

@@silver2zilverhistorically they used to eat wooden ships and boats. So they are saltwater creatures. That should’ve been obvious since they’re found in the mangroves

Brazil's island of Marajó, the biggest river island in the world, also has an edible woodworm that is well liked by the locals.

being a filipino i'd like to think that the philippines was originally part of south america but then parts of it broke off and drifted towards asia which made the philippines 😂

Funny Origin Story of the name "Tamilok" taken from a local TV show, shared to me by my wife: Before, there was no local name yet for Tamilok (wood worm). Apparently a local man named "Tommy" guided some tourists who were interested to try this exotic delicacy. One of the foreigners upon seeing the worm, he yelled: 'Tommy, Look!!' And Tommy thought the foreigner called the worm of its name "Tamilok." It was adopted since then. 😂😂😂

That's how most of the filipino names for things come from. Baliwag is from some guy saying "I'm gonna do something stupid" and the the other guy goes "hoy baliw wag" Tagaytay is from a son drinking alcohol who wanted his father to take a shot too "Tagay tay" etc
