It's rap-ish, but a pretty unique kind of performance. I never get enough of that a capella section when it's just Su's voice.

I saw them do this at Hammersmith and they took the roof off (what was left of it after the first few songs).🤘 It sounds like rap to me ... just much better (I'm not a fan of rap). This is what Su said about it in an interview: SU-METAL: That was my first rap experience. For most of my recordings up until now, I would sing “la la laa” to create a sort of vocal line, and then lyric writing began based on that. But it was different for this track, they had a backing track and lyrics, and then told me to try rapping. So at first I was still trying to figure it out. In hiphop they call it…it was like…ah, I forget! MOAMETAL: Wasn’t it…f-…fall? SU-METAL: Uh…what was it… KOBAMETAL: Flow? SU-METAL: Flow! (laughs) To get a feel for the flow, I made a lot of different attempts to figure out what would be good. Like how to descend and ascend in pitch, and which timing would be the best to try the pitch changes. Even for the same phrase I’d try going a little ahead of the beat or a little bit behind it, while keeping the whole track’s balance in mind."

Nice reaction. To clear it up for you. That was Rap. The Type of rap Su used is from a traditional Japanese style of spoken Rap. She just did it with an American style attitude. When your name is Su-metal you can do any type of genre mix you want to. Because that is the Babymetal way of doing things. IMO many musical historians are finding that many places and cultures have their own version of Rap. It just tends for many folks to think of the American style because that's what became popular around the world first. But as you said there are many ways to Rap. Babymetal just did it to a dope metal track. The Foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

True point. Other cultures are going to have their influence of how rap is going to be and there’s a lot of spoken rappers out there. Especially in the UK where I’m from. So thank you for this comment 😊

Instead of arguing with yourself about which particular box this fits in how about relaxing & enjoying the song and the performance for what it is? You’ll get much more out of it if you do. BABYMETAL are awesome & Su is simply incredible. I was about 6 or 8 feet in front of her when she performed this in Glasgow in 2020 & boy it was impressive.

Might i recommend that you check out another Japanese Metal band.... Aldious Dominator live Radiant A O East. All Female and they play their own instruments and write theit own songs.
