My 'daily' is a VE SS Ute. I live in a small rural town, so I mostly walk or bicycle to work and shops. The V8 gets used for highway driving, where I get around 10L/100km. If I lived in a city, I wouldn't own the V8. It costs me maybe $1000 a year more in fuel compared to driving a Yaris - for what you get, that's not bad value.

I daily a 25 year old Lexus LS400 (1UZFE V8) and I would have it no other way. Maybe 15-20% more in fuel costs but reliability, luxury and power is definitely worth the sacrifice over any 4 pot or new EV. It drives like a brand new car with an odometer of 260,000 (just run in!)

I have a VY v8 with a bunch of mods and there's no way I'd daily it. Too expensive and I'd much rather keep the K's down and enjoy it properly as a weekender. No doubt I'll get hate for this, but it's why I purchased a cheap EV as a daily runabout. Lighter on the wallet and keeps my toy for the weekend.

Cheap ev? Like Mitsubishi ev? Otherwise the repayments on the rest are way more than having an older car.

I daily my 5 litre VS. Its pretty much stock except for headers + exhaust (exhaust apparently made by someone who worked for larry perkins) and corvette front brakes. It's old, worn out, tired and smells. I've dailied it for 10+ years. Only bought it because it was cheap. I could sell it and buy a corolla but where is the fun in that. I drive up a steepish hill everyday, the extra torque helps a lot with that. Had a v6 before that, the fuel efficiency isn't that much worse tbh. It's slow and a v6 camry is quicker now. Wouldn't have it any other way

I daily an almost stock VZ SV8 LS1 Auto, with shorter diff gears the only mechanical mod. I have worked on my own custom tune for it over the years, not just for economy and overall power, but for an improvement to throttle response and driveability. A well street-tuned LS1 can get amazing economy, as the factory tunes are no where near optimal in so many areas.

My weekend beast is Walkinshaw W407 VF2 SSV Redline SEP 2017. My daily is a VE series 2 SS Thunder ute. I bought it in 2020 as a stock auto with 260KW 130000kms on the clock. I had it dyno tuned with OTR 2 year ago which gave it 340KW which made a big difference. And it was reliable till just now at 210000 as the power steering pump had been replaced... I am having it worked on today and the next few days to replace the DOD lifters which are starting to tick loudly and these are the weakest lifters that GM make... with LS7s lifters and a more aggressive cam with all the tougher push rods and valve springs etc to make it more reliable than before. It should put out 390 kw after it's done. I was not planning on doing so much to the daily but once the power bug bites ya it is hard to stop. Incidentally I had a VN SS ex police car before these and it was my daily for 14 years it did 469000kms. It had an engine rebuilt 80000kms before this, and it was mildly tuned too. It was very reliable as a daily. With also owning a VE SSV series 1 after my VN then a VF series 1 Redline before my series 2 W407. So 5 commodores in the last 26 year, with other brands before these and the Holdens have been the best fun. Fuel economy aside which are not to bad considering the power and performance.

Personally I've been interested in getting a VY Calais or WK Caprice V8. Mostly because I think these models won't depreciate and might actually go up in value in the not too distant future. However I currently drive a Prius and the fuel bill is hard to come to terms with. I try and justify it but I think I'm probably going to go with something in between that hopefully won't depreciate too much. Namely a Lexus GS450H.

I LS1/T56 swapped my VX exec wagon from Ecotec/4L60e and it's been a great car for towing It was a little thirsty on fuel at first (16ish litres per 100ks), just put on a OTR+Mafless tune and full exhaust (extractors/cats and twin 3 inch black ops cat back with full mufflers and resonators and I get around 9ish litres per 100ks now and around 12 when I'm towing my AU drift car Oh yeah I also have a VZ 2.87 or 2.89 LSD in it too so that helps a bit

My experience would be no I wouldn’t,and I’ll probably get a lot of hate here but as much as I loved my VY Calais V8 my V6 crown hybrid that I replaced it with is not only more comfortable with all the fruit it’s more powerful, does a 0-100 time in 5.4secs and sips around 6L per 100kms and is more reliable, yes there’s no Awsome sound but overall the crown in my opinion is a far Better choice

My WM V8 was getting about 12 - 14L/ 100km city driving, usually would get shy of 400k to a tank, but to and from work was 10k one way 10k back home and I never went anywhere really. But country driving I may get closer to 8.5~L/ 100Ks, and that was using 91, Used to use 95 but there was no difference in economy. Since sold it and got a Territory Diesel which I get about twice the Ks to a tank city driving Approx 750Ks and Country I'll get maybe an extra 150Ks depending on speed ( 110kmh, But if I sit at 80 or 90Kmh it'll do closer 5.5 - 6.5L/ 100K)

I’ve been dallying my VS 5L get about 17.7L every 100ks and I don’t drive it like a baby but the fuel is draining my bank account I’ve got a v6 as well but I just love the feeling of driving my v8 so the v6 is just sitting where the v8 should be🤷🏽‍♂️

My departed 😢 VY acclaim 15L/100km city daily driving. A colleague in a VY SS manual in the 14s. My TS astra 11.5 driving it hard. My VF SV6 wagon around 12.5s trying not to go hard. Decisions.

Are there any V6 Alloytecs still actually getting around? I’d reckon an LS would be cheaper to repair than an chain stretched Alloytec. Funny how suddenly you just aren’t seeing VE’s and FG’s being driven any more.
